Total relaxation is rarely achieved in this fast-paced world, unless unless you make an appointment at nuBest Salon & Spa in Manhasset. Since the 1970's, nuBest Salon has reigned over the North Shore on Long Island as the ultimate lifestyle salon destination. A one-stop-shop for all your beauty needs, you will leave nuBest at the end of your session a new and rejuvenated person.
Incorporating a state of the art private gym, snack bar, salon and day spa all located on two floors, you could go from morning to night and from treatment to treatment never having to leave the premises. And some people do just that! The decor is minimalist like the trendiest NYC spas and unobtrusive as to not shift your focus from total relaxation.
Services range from manicures/pedicures to a range of massages and mud treatments. Men won’t feel left out either. With their new Executive Getaway package, which features a Sports Massage, Sports Manicure, haircut and style ($140), it has never been simpler to wind down after a long day at the office.
The salon offers a number of packages and does an exceptional job in bridal or special occasion makeup.

Men's shaving and facial products have only recently been getting more attention of the skin products market. The Art of Shaving line of men’s products has certainly contributed to this often neglected skin care market.
Started about ten years ago in Manhattan, The Art of Shaving offers a full-line of men's shaving products with an emphasis on the 4-step shave (pre-shave oil, lather, shave and condition). The Art of Shaving has taken what many men see as the worst part of their daily routine and made it an invigorating and pleasant experience.
A staple of gifts, aptly called the Art of Shaving's "Blue Box" ($100) offers a one-stop shop for the complete shave. With the blue box incorporating pre-shave oil, a badger brush, shave cream and post-shave conditioner, all it will take is one shave and you’ll be hooked. Prices for the shaving brushes made of pure badger range from $50 to $1,200 depending on the fineness of the brush as well as the material of the handle.
The shop has locations in NYC and at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island. Stop by to schedule an appointment with the store's in house shave master for a smooth and refreshing shave that will leave a lasting impression on your mind, and not on your face.
Would make a great gift idea.

This has been an annual tradition for me since the late '70s when I first began working in NYC. The annual Sing-In has become one of New York's most popular holiday musical events.
Hosted by National Chorale, under the direction of Martin Josman, this event takes place at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. Just imagine, 3000 voices and you singing along to holiday favorites with 17 conductors and guest soloists? Don't worry if you don't know all the songs, sheet music is provided. It's a holiday happening that is really happening each and every year. This year's Sing-In is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19th at 7:30. Sign on to the website or call to get tickets if you're thinking of going--they sell out quickly.
This is a terrific event for families or to bring a friend or two--they'll have a wonderful time, guaranteed.

This tiny little food shop on Franklin Street off Main in Nyack is a treasure. It's like entering someone's kitchen as you smell something good cooking and peek into the glass case to see what's offered as a daily special. The shop offers a selection of delicious Italian specialities including ravioli that is stuffed with ingredients ranging from pumpkin, lobster, broccoli rabe to four cheeses. Items are freshly made and can also be purchased frozen if you're not going to serve the food that day. They also sell sauces to dress your ravioli or other pasta in the take home case. Specials are made in small quantities so get there early before the best stuff sells out--it does and quickly, especially on Saturdays. I love their deep fried artichoke hearts.
Sample tasty olive oils from their olive oil bar; bring your own glass container to buy as much or as little as you require. A novel idea.
Pick up a loaf of crusty artisan bread, a little cheese, olives and cold cuts to make your own delicious antipasto.

You know that Christmas is right around the corner when you spy a Salvation Army bell ringer. Dropping a few bucks into the red kettle is as good as stuffing a stocking for a needy child.
That kind of easy giving may be harder to do this holiday season as The Army is learning that volunteers to staff the kettles and soliciting donations are hard to come by.
Donations to the red kettles are not only used during the holidays, but are a significant part of the year's operating budget supporting shelters, food pantries, youth and senior programs, people in need of utility, housing and prescription assistance as well as all other programs and services.
Donations in New Jersey can also be made through www.salvationarmynewjersey.org or by calling 1-877-NJS-ARMY and specify your gift is for the red kettle fund.
