If you are looking for a gift for a family who already has everything, a zoo membership might just be the way to go. A year membership provides entrance not only to the local zoo, but to many zoos throughout the country. The Cleveland Metropark Zoo is one of the zoos that participates in this reciprocal arrangement. It is a great zoo with a variety of animals, including a good aquarium and a wonderful Australian exhibit. The only negative with the Cleveland Zoo is that it is very spread out! Make sure to take the shuttles that are offered to the aquarium or Northern Trek area- it is a LONG walk.

The store at this Bob Evans Restaurant is the best I have ever seen. It is almost the same size as the restaurant area. They have a wide assortment of unique gifts, many of which are Americana. The restaurant itself is open and airy. It serves typical Bob Evans fare- good, home style food. The service is quick and their breakfasts are especially good.

From the outside, Maggie Mudd looks like your regular run of the mill ice cream shop, but looks can be deceiving! Inside, an array of flavors awaits that is anything but ordinary. For vegans, there is a wide variety of soy, almond and coconut milk creams in unusual and intense flavors (the lemon poppyseed is especially good!) They also offer a good selection of regular ice cream and a fun assortment of sundaes and milk shakes. Maggie Mudd is a great choice for a cold treat.

I was a little leery when a friend suggested Poky Dot for supper. I was sure it was cute (how could it not be with a name like Poky Dot?) but I eat fairly nutritiously and I worried about what I would eat. Luckily I was wrong! Poky Dot is a great place- it has a cute sixties feel including music. The paintings on the walls are worth the trip (make sure to use the bathrooms!) The food is good and reasonable. The breakfast menu is very creative (Banana Split French Toast, Anyone?) This is a great place to stop anytime of the day... and save room for dessert!)

I currently am going to the Cleveland Clinic. I first went to the Women's Clinic, and did not have great luck there. I have since heard from one other person who had problems there. I later went to the GI clinic and it was great. Dr. Burke was able to diagnosis my problems correctly in the first visit. I have had a number of tests there and all the people have been wonderful! I also go to their pain clinic and they are amazing! I am so thankful for them. Dr. Yonan is great.
Although I would highly recommend the Cleveland Clinic, be prepared for confusion. The place is huge and there is currently construction.

Ever wonder how the Cable Cars work? Then the Cable Car Museum is the place for you. It is the place to go to see the gear turn that run the Cable Cars and learn how they go at 9.5 miles per hour down the streets of San Francisco. It includes a history of the Cable Cars (at their peak pre-earthquake) and a pictorial history of the earthquake itself. There is a movie, which is way too long- skip it unless you want a place to sit for an hour or so (I didn't watch the whole thing). This is a quick stop along the cable car line.

The Alcatraz Prison tour is an amazing mixture of history, lore, and human interest. In order to get to the infamous prison, you (obviously) need to take a boat- get your tickets in advance! they sell out fast, especially in the summer. The boat rise itself provides amazing views, but the real fun starts on the island. The hike up to prison is steep, but provides time to see and learn about other parts of the islands' history. The audio tour of the prison is incredible. It includes clips from former prisoners and guards. Take time to explore the prison and grounds after the tour. This is a must in San Francisco.

First of all, it must be said that Pier 39 is a tourist trap. That being said, it is a fun place to go. As the name implies, it is a pier filled with shops and attractions of all types. There are also all sorts of places to eat- from counter service crab cakes, ice cream, crepes, and sour dough bread to chain restaurants and more elegant sit down restaurants. Near the end of the pier sea lions have taken residence and the sight is smelly, loud, and wonderful to see. The views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge are wonderful at the end of the pier. Although it is touristy, Pier 39 is worth a visit.

The Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco is beautiful! It is located in Golden Gate Park near the museums and is a quiet, serene oasis is a bustling city. The gardens meander, so make sure to take all of the pathways. There are a few signs for the pagoda, Buddha statue and some other interesting statues which added to the experience. There is also a gift store (of course) and a place to get tea (another obvious). It costs $3.50 to get in, but if you go before 9:30 a.m. it is free (we found this out on accident). One word of caution, be careful what paths you choose if you have a stroller or wheel chair. Some, but not all, paths are difficult if not impossible to maneuver.

The Regatta Bar and Grill is in the newest and one of the nicest hotels in town and is a great place to eat. It has good food, which is expected at such a location. We usually go for their lunch buffet- don't be fooled by its small size! They believe in quality over quantity. There is a rotating active bar each day with the addition of salads, fruit, breads, soup, a few other entrées, and amazing desserts. Although it is not stated, non-alcoholic drinks are included in the buffet.
Although I expected great food, I was pleasantly surprised with the staff. they are very friendly and accommodating. They help us and our daughter feel right at home. The atmosphere is elegant but relaxed. They validate both self and valet parking.
