Attended the New Year's Day Punchline Comedy Club Gameshow and was totally disgusted. There were about 6-7 comedians who performed throughout the evening interspersed with an audience contest about the show. Laughs were rare, except by the two women who'd imbibed before the show and fulfilled their two-drink minimum quickly upon being seated early for the show. Oh, and the woman who eventually won the contest was very amusing! You could see the "comedians" (and I use the word loosely) struggling with the unresponsive audience, making excuses and changing topics as the regimented gameshow script allowed. The overwhelming overuse of obscene sexually-related material didn't seem to deliver the shock-value laughs they were expecting. Of course, my opinion is always that it takes so much more talent to do a clean show than one laced with filthy language and sex jokes! And the racist remarks and innuendos! Ugh! These weren't very talented folks if our reaction was an indication, even though several had performed on late night talk shows and one even had his own cable comedy show. Thank God, I don't have cable! Anyway, won't make this mistake again and advise others to get their laughs elsewhere too.

Tried Sophie's Crepes in Japantown for the first time today and really liked it. I was initially thinking the prices were expensive, but the mixed fruit & ice cream crepe was quite large. These are really good. Numm! I'll have to go back and try the savory crepes next time. It is located on the 2nd floor just at the top of the stairs in the Kinokuniya Building.

While I did not have the "smooth sailing" experience others had in dealing with Lucina, their customer service from Shauna Mohr is second to none.
I also first checked them out after receiving the City Editor gift cert. I chose what I thought would be wonderful heart-shaped earrings for Valentine's Day. They arrived very timely but were scarred. Now I understand handmade designs often have subtle flaws; however, these had flaws that the creator had not even bothered to paint over to match the red color of the earrings. So white scars were very obvious if you wore the earrings.
I contacted Lucina and made arrangements for the return and refund to my credit card and credit of the $50 gift certificate. Ms. Mohr even went so far as to investigate the designer of the product and said that they had been removed from their collection because of several complaints.
The reordering was held up on my part due to a family emergency, but both Judy's Book and Lucina were completely understanding. I did reorder another piece of jewelry, received it in a timely manner and was very satisfied with the quality. However, the gift cert credit was at first not handled appropriately; again Ms. Mohr came through in unbelieveable fashion in fact refunding all my monies for all the trouble I experienced.
Few companies would have taken such care! Shauna Mohr is truly a terrific representative for Lucina! For those I know interested in handmade jewelry, I will certainly recomend Lucina.

Johnny Foleys is representative of both the old and more modern Irish restaurant/pubs now found back home in Ireland. Upscale quality decor with a wonderful long, wooden bar with gleaming brass while still with that old Irish pub feel! The food is terrific, and while you get California cuisine and good old American standbys, you also get Irish favorites: Cottage Pie, Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash, etc. The noise level can be high for talking while dining in certain areas, but the variety of nooks and crannies make it more enjoyable. Definitely a great place to meet your friends for a drink or enjoy lunch or dinner!

I found Bill Selby's Image Invention while searching online for photo restoration services in San Francisco. The examples he showed on his website and his professional bio convinced me to give him a try. I recently brought to him some precious photos of my parents needing restoration, resizing or the like to make up a 49th anniversary gift. When asked, he made suggestions that really improved the vision of the gift I had in mind. I was so pleased when I picked up my photos, after only a few days, as they were beautiful! The quality of the work was wonderful. Bill had given me a disk with all my digital images to save for posterity and reprinting purposes. Additionally, he had printed additional copies of pictures making some minor adjustments he thought I would like better. I couldn't have been more satisfied. I feel so much better knowing these special photos have been preserved for my relatives and me, and I know that the gift will be tearfully received! Thanks to Image Invention and Bill Selby!

Kitchen Kitchen has every kind of kitchen tool and gadget you could want. If you're looking for that hard-to-find oven liner or the specialty corkscrew, this is the place. The staff goes out of their way to help you and can order almost anything you need. While prices are higher (it is located in Indian Wells, after all!), the quality of the merchandise is very high. A great place to shop for yourself or for gifts for the chef in the family.

Washington Cleaners always does a tremendous job with our dry cleaning. My Mom has also used them extensively for alterations and been well pleased with the results. The staff are very friendly, and I think this may be family-owned, which I always like. This is a very convenient location in the Albertsons shopping center with loads of free parking.

Dr. Rudlin is a caring and attentive internist and, I believe, specialist in gerontology. He provides excellent care for my parents and aunt whenever they need him. He is personable and always willing to listen, never rushing you in and out the door as some doctors do. His staff is also very helpful and friendly, and always patient with their older clients. Parking is so easy here next to Eisenhower Medical Center. A doctor to trust.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a must-see for any visitor to the Coachella Valley. Even though at holidays the wait in line can be long, the large tram then wisks you up the mountain with spectacular views across the valley and over the surrounding mountains. It's fabulous to go at Christmastime, and we make it a family adventure. You start out in shorts at home, put on your jeans and warm jacket before jumping aboard the tram, and end up in snowball fights atop the mountain! What a great experience! Don't miss it!
