About a year ago, we switched our phone service from a traditional landline to SunRocket VoIP service http://www.sunrocket.com/ which runs over our cable broadband connection. We are on the Limited Edition plan which includes unlimited inbound calls, 200 minutes in outbound calls, and 14 built-in features such as call waiting, call forwarding, 3 way calling, etc... Service has been very dependable and we really love it!!! It's a real bargain at only $9.95 per month!

Wow! This bank is wonderful!!! I can honestly say we love our bank! After being with a large national bank for 9 years, we switched over to a local hometown bank, First National Bank of Olathe, about 2 years ago because we were tired of the inattentive customer service, excessive fees, and the feeling that our business was not valued with "the big guys." We found all we were looking for and more with our new bank. The service (both in person and on the phone) is always quick, friendly, and helpful. Customer relations are wonderful - occasional exceptions/favors can and will be made... for instance, if you are late with a deposit and miss the bank day cut-off, etc... We really love the Free Checking as well! :)

We'd been needing to have a small pine tree removed from a landscaped area in our front yard since mid-Summer. Unfortunately, we had some issues with the company that we thought was going to complete this work for us (please see my previous review) which is what put a huge delay in this job being done. Yesterday afternoon, we decided enough was enough and we just couldn't wait any longer. We found Olathe Tree Service in the phone book and were pleasantly surprised when they called back within just a couple hours and offered to come right out and do an estimate! When Brian arrived with equipment in tow, he gave us a quick estimate and offered to do the job for us right there and then!!! The price was fair and the immediate service was very much appreciated. We definitely recommend Olathe Tree Service!

This Summer, we were looking to have a pine tree removed and found Elite Tree Service's website http://www.elitetree.com/ after doing an Internet search.
We requested a quote via email and although we received no response to that message, they came out and left a quote on our door within a couple days.
We thought the price was very fair and emailed trying to set up a time when they could come out and remove the tree. They left a message saying that because this job was so 'small', they would have to 'get to it when they can' and bill us after completion. We ultimately decided that although we'd rather be home when work is being done on our property, we'd go ahead and allow them to come out because the price was good.
We called and left a message telling them to go ahead with the work, left another message a couple weeks later, and finally a 3rd message a couple weeks after that asking them to please give us a call if they weren't able to complete the job as we would search elsewhere. For some reason, we were were never able to get ahold of an actual person... just an answering machine.
We NEVER heard a word back on any of our messages and they NEVER came by to complete the tree removal job. Needless to say, I would NOT RECOMMEND Elite Tree Service due to the terrible Customer Service!

Because of the waiting period to get married here in Kansas, John and I made the 3+ hour drive to Miami, OK to get married several years ago. We had heard that Miami was the first town across the Missouri/Oklahoma border in which there were wedding chapels... others we knew had also made the same trip for the same reason. At the time, it actually seemed quite romantic as we didn't have to get married at the courthouse! ;) Anyway, we were quite pleased with our spur of the moment low-cost wedding and would definitely recommend Lavern's to others. The entire process (blood test, marriage license, wedding) took less than a hour.
Important facts you should know when considering Lavern's:
They are open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. *Evenings, Weekends, and Legal Holidays by appointment (additional $20 fee).
Costs:
Oklahoma Marriage License $50 (Courthouse is directly across the street)
Wedding/Pastor/2 Witnesses $50
TOTAL: $100
The chapel is a church-like setting with 6 pews that seat 21 people decorated with white and wine colored roses. Decor includes: brass arch, kneeling bench, flowers and candelabras. Bouquets, Garters, Corsages, Balloons, Pens, Video, Polaroid Pictures, etc... are also available, We brought our own camera and the staff at Lavern's snapped some pics for free!
They now have a website: http://www.neok.com/laverns/
More info can be found on Lavern's and the town of Miami, OK can be found here: http://www.visitmiamiok.com/attractions/

United Beads Inc offers some great deals on crafting supplies! I assume they carry beads as their name implies but since I've never actually been in the store, I can't be certain. What I can tell you is that they carry ribbon cheaper than I've ever seen before (50 yd roll of 3/8" grosgrain: $1.40, 50 yd roll of 7/8" grosgrain: $2.80, etc...)! They also carry tulle, french clips - to make bows, rosettes, etc... Really great deals for crafters! ;) This particular company requires no Tax ID # - they offer their wholesale pricing to the public with a minimum $50 order!!! They have no website but do accept fax orders... and ship quickly!

I first started going to Talk of the Town back when I was in High School - almost 20 years ago. This place hasn't changed much and for good reason... it's PERFECT! I've actually introduced many friends to this restaurant over the years because it really is THAT GOOD!!! It has a great bar and grill atmosphere, friendly wait staff, and great food! Wednesday is 1/2 Price Burger day and the burgers are to die for!!! My favorite is the Mushroom Burger. It's huge and served with the most awesome curly fries... it can't be beat! The Nachos are another of my favorites - the huge portion is big enough to share with a friend (or two)!

Definitely a Kansas City Classic! This 24-hour diner has been operating since 1914 and still has it's old time charm! Upon entering, you truly feel as if you've stepped back in time! The food is simple and inexpensive, the waitresses are friendly, and as with most diners, the breakfast is awesome! Nichol's Lunch is definitely worth a visit - be sure to bring cash as credit or debit cards are not accepted and don't plan to visit between 10 p.m. Sun. and 5:30 a.m. Tues as they are Closed!

I'm honestly not that impressed with our local Children's Orchard anymore. Years ago, I used to go in and come up with bags and bags full of nearly-new name brand and boutique clothes. I was lucky to get out of the store without spending at least $100 per trip. The last couple times I was in though, I just wasn't able to find the quality of items I wanted at the low prices I'd like to pay. The store seems to be filled with off-brands from Target, Wal Mart, etc... and not the Gymboree, Gap, etc... that I prefer. There weren't very many matching sets and those that I was finding, weren't even sized the same (for example: a 12-18 months top with 6-12 months pair of shorts). I was also really surprised to see that many items were faded and showed significant washwear or slight marks - and these weren't even on the play clothes rack! I'm not at all crazy about the current staff here... in fact, I feel that they've been quite rude at times. I have 5 kids in their sizing range and would love to be able to spend some money with this store! I'm going to wait a few months before going back... hopefully things will have changed for the better by then!!!

Although McKeever's Price Chopper isn't my favorite grocery store in Olathe, I do love the 4 day sales they often run. The items included in these sales are often unbeatable deals so it's worth making a special trip. Their everyday prices are slightly higher than Dillon's on many items that I've compared so unless the item is on sale, I generally won't buy it here. I've found the employees to be semi-friendly but they generally don't talk unless I speak up first. This store also doesn't offer self-checkout but I've found that the lines usually aren't too long.
