One look at this magazine's cover and you can tell this is a magazine targeted for a man (the scantily clad women on the cover ought to tip you off). Beyond that, I'm a talk radio junkie over 30 who hears most of her new music on Grey's Anatomy (Snow Patrol is great!), but even so, I look forward to getting this magazine in the mail each month. From the letters to the editor, which show their tongue-in-cheek personality to their list of the 25 best..... each month, it's fun reading. It doesn't take that long to read either.

My son needed speech and occupational therapy and we were able to get 30 sessions per year only paying a copay - these are expensive sessions we got for only $15 a week! Out of network claims are hard to get reimbursed, but it is hard to know if that is a function of the fact that Regence has to go through Blue Cross Blue Shield of California to pay it out. I have called customer service on many occasions and the reps have researched claims for me and called me back to tell me of the progress being made. On one recent claim, it did take 6 months to get reimbursed, but the rep who was working with me gave me her direct line and was friendly and helpful even after call after call.

And they can do that here. They have the requisite small video game section where kids can pass the time while waiting for their parents. It's in a great location, downtown, with lots of parking available nearby and you can easily catch dinner at one of the downtown eateries within walking distance.

I'll admit, I don't know the first thing about how a restaurant is run, but we took the kids to Applebees last night for 2 reasons: I am a Weight Watcher and I wanted something light and they have a WW menu with points and the kids like it. We ordered a kids menu item for my daughter and she wanted carrots though they served it with broccoli. We asked to substitute and they said they didn't have broccoli. You mean to tell me that none of the other items on the Applebee's menu use carrots? Then I saw a Weight Watchers item on the lunch that looked good. I asked if I could order it and pay more. Again, no. I don't really have a problem with certain items being lunch only or dinner only, but then have a separate lunch menu. Yes, I can read the limitations, but if I'm coming for WW menu and that's one of the dishes, I want it! Seems cruel. The steak skewers on the WW menu were very good. UPDATE: I emailed my complaint on the website and the manager called me and assured me, that yes, you can get the WW wrap from the lunch menu, but you have to pay more. The staff will be trained on this, also, they only have shredded carrots, but they do have celery and applesauce that you can substitute in a kids meal and they will be trained in that. And they are sending me some freebies, so yay!
Also, they had a balloon artist trolling the tables. She WAS very talented, but I want to teach my kids what it's like to eat in a restaurant and I don't want to be put on the spot for extras. She did leave when my son said that he didn't want one (on his own), but it just sort of creeped me out.
UPDATE: We went back on New Year's Eve. The service was great and the WW Steak Skewers were great! Beware of the Sizzling Apple Pie, it smelled so good, but it's got nearly 1100 calories and 56 grams of fat.

I went here this week with my mother and my 4 year old daughter and I had a fabulous meal. They don't have a children's menu, but they were willing to make noodles with cheese, though we just opted for fettucini alfredo. The tomato dipping saue they bring with their bread is addictive! I had the Garlic pasta and I normally don't eat big portions (I'm a Weight Watcher) but I finished every last bit. My mom had a pasta with red sauce and huge chunks of mushroom and I took it home for leftovers and ended up eating the sauce by itself as a meal - nice and spicy and substantial.

We went to the one in the San Francisco Shopping Center 5 years ago for my son's 2nd birthday party and that bear is still my son's favorite. My 4 year old daughter went to a drop off party here today (there were a few adult relatives for the 20 kids, but the staff seemed to take it in stride). I think 2 was a little young for them to get a lot out of it and it was somewhat expensive (when you have a party here, you hate to disappoint the kids and stick to the basic bear, which is reasonable, so you end up spending about $25/kid), they do have great staff members and you don't have to worry about party favors. The downside is that they don't have a room to have cake, so you have to retire to either the Boudin (which isn't equipped to handle a party for young ones or CPK or buy food or drink at the food court to serve cake. The birthday kid gets an autograph bear and a birthday CD (you'll want to smash it with a sledgehammer before long, but your kids will love it).

My children went to a party today and it was much nicer than other jumpy places in the area. The jumpers are taller than ones you see at the park and they are clean. There is adequate supervision by Pump It Up staff members, though you stay with the kids and you sign a liability waiver when you get there. There are two rooms and you start in one and then after a while the kids are taken to the other. Parents are allowed to go on the inflatables and I did and it was quite fun. There is hand sanitizer prominently placed on the walls and the staff went out of the way to make sure the kids were clean before moving into the party room for refreshments.
The only drawback is that it was far for me coming from Foster City. I have heard they are coming to Belmont soon.

I went to both stores to find size 4 double pointed bamboo needles and no surprise, neither place had them, but I knew Nine Rubies would have them. $8 seems a bit pricey and the yarns seem nice but again, I wouldn't go there unless I was making something special. It has a convenient location, right on 3rd Avenue. I went on 10:10 on a Saturday and they open at 10 and they had the Closed sign still up, though the door was open. The worker was nice and informed me of a special club but since I had told her I get my yarn at Michaels didn't try to upsell me on it.

I had seen this practice advertised in the Foster City Islander and by direct mail, but had never heard anything from friends and family. My husband was looking for a new dentist and he's not picky and it was convenient, so he went. He was pleased. Then when I finally decided my dentist wasn't convenient, I decided to give them a shot - they are open 7 days a week. I love this office. I walked in after 2 years away from a dentist's office because I had to find babysitters for my kids and my dentist just wasn't right and I needed a lot of work done. That made me a little emotional, but the person behind the desk was very reassuring and Dr. Bonin was very calming. I have spent the last few Saturdays with them and they are friendly and professional (they have DishNetwork or DirecTV (I can't remember which one) and I can catch up on my adult viewing (not that kind) while I'm there. I recently made the decision to switch my kids here too and my 3 year old daughter did great and Dr. Warren was great - they couldn't get xrays on her, so they used a camera. They aren't going to put her under anesthetic for fillings if they can help it. I'm very pleased and want to spread the word.

We took my mom here for her birthday, after a Giants game. We went early for dinner (4:30/4:45pm), but right after the game. The bar was packed with young drinkers, but the dining room was quite nice. I had the mushroom ravolis with pomodoro sauce. It was good, but not worth the $19 price tag. There is no kids' menu but my kids had the pizza appetizer and a side of fries. The fries rocked and were worth the $5, but $17 for two kids seems outrageous, of course, maybe they are trying to discourage kids. We were thinking about ordering a second order, but my mom's baby back ribs came with fries too.
