I always had a THING about cleanliness as a child. Did I have OCD or something back then? I don't know, but I sure do now and I think my crappy experiences at bad hotels my parents would book on trips may have heightened my...uh...thing.
We stayed at the Excalibur during a family reunion about five years ago, after being on immune suppressive medication for a year. YUCK was it nasty! Well, to me all of Las Vegas is kinda nasty. The hotel's lobby is taaaaacky, crowded and smelled of cheap cigars. It was so bad that my lungs and eyes were burning from the smoke--and a hotel's lobby is supposed to be its show piece!
As you can imagine, it did not get better when we went up to the room. The carpet was crusty and God knows what kinds of stains were hidden in its dark colouring. The beds were nasty--again, dark bedding. I was in utter agony the entire reunion. Gives me the heebies just thinking about it now.

If I had to choose between Polish sausage and Italian sausage, I'd definitely go for the Polish (with the exception of pizza toppings, of course). I'm not a big fan of store-bought polish sausage like Hillshire Farms or whatever big name brand is in the meat section. I like the "homemade" variety found at my favourite delicatessens.
For the ultimate Polish Sausage, visit Pink's on the corner of Melrose and La Brea in smeLA, California. You'll not only get a great sausage or dog, but you may even see a celebrity. It's said to be quite a hot spot for sightings. Though I doubt Jessica Alba is all that big on the sausages... Hmmm... Or maybe she is.

I use my American Express card for routine purchases and get 1 to $1 points for purchases and double points for grocery, gas and other everyday purchases. I like my Amex card most because I have no choice but to pay off the balance at the end of the billing cycle. I can be quite the big spender otherwise. The points really rack up!
Discover cards are good too, if you have better self control than I do with spending. :)

I had take-out from Mike's Smokehouse in Eau Claire during my trip to the Badger State of Wisconsin in January of 2006. Now...I've been all around the BBQ belt of this country. I've had the tangy mustard based Q of the Carolinas, the sweet southern sauces of Memphis and my very favourite mesquite smoked bbq of Texas--no sauce needed there!
Now, my criteria of what makes good BBQ is quite simple. 1. Low. 2. Slow. and 3. Good BBQ don't need no sauce. In fact, the best BBQ I ever had was only rubbed with salt, pepper and then slow smoked in a mesquite smoker until it was juuuuuuuuuust right.
Mike's Smokehouse (let me repeat that again) Mike's SMOKEHOUSE was just awful! The ribs tasted like they were thrown into a crock pot in the morning with a bottle of ketchup and left to cook until dinnertime. The meat was totally way too overcooked and soaked in this nasty sauce. I didn't taste smoke at all--just the sharply nauseating taste of liquid smoke.
Stay away from Mike's.

Their pork spare ribs are just right. Not too overcooked that the meat turns to mush when you bite into it, but definitely not tough. Perfectly done. What's so great about it and good Texas BBQ in general is that its not dripping in sauce. Good BBQ does not need sauce. However, IF you are a BBQ sauce person, Rudy's doesn't disappoint there either. Their sauce is just perfect. Not sweet and sticky and not as harsh as Southern vinegar based sauce. Aside from the spare ribs, I usually get a pound or two of brisket if I'm sharing. :) Rudy's got that down pat!
Man does not live by meat alone...Rudy's has some dang good sides! My favourites are the pinto beans and cream corn. Best cream corn I've ever tasted! Mmmm... Just thinking about Rudy's is making my mouth water... Hmmmm... I do believe Southwest Air has a non-stop to San Antonio for $49 each way. It may be time for me to pay the Lone Star State another visit!

I was on a quest to find the perfect milkshake and/ or malt a few months ago. I had just been on a trip to visit my then girlfriend in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, who had introduced me to Culver's malts. I had the straight up vanilla malt. Holy bageezuz was that good!
Soooo....upon my return to San Diego, I was girlfriend sick and needed something familiar, other than the naughties left in my suitcase. (LMAO! She's going to hate me for saying that...oh well...she hates me anyway) So I went on this mad quest to find a malt or shake that was comparable to Culver's. I've yet to find a good malt, but Jack in the Box makes a great vanilla milk shake! It's definitely not something for those watching the calories.
I highly recommend it!

A great burger doesn't need to have a bunch of overpowering fancy ingredients. No gimmicks makes the best. This is why I like Islands so much. There are either burger choices that you can choose from, which can be viewed here: http://www.islandsrestaurants.com/menu_burgers.asp My favourites are the Big Wave and Hawaiian burgers. Simple, big burgers on perfectly buttered and toasted buns. And of course, only the freshest of ingredients.
The burgers are about $8 and don't come with fries. A large basket of delicious fries can be ordered for around $2. I don't understand why fries are separate. I suppose this makes the burgers on the pricey side, but well worth it, I think.
After eating, one could go west on Palomar Airport Rd to the gorgeous beaches of Carlsbad only minutes away. One could choose to the go the Carlsbad flower fields across the street, which I love or one could go to the best outlet shopping center I've been to no more than 1/4 of a mile away. I love Carlsbad!
