Shockingly poor food. You can find better steaks at half the price. 6/2/2007

The bread: Tasteless white garbage. The butter: Tasteless whipped garbage. The calamari appetizer: Greasy and tasteless. The ?steakhouse salad? ok except for the cheap supermarket croutons. The $44 Cowboy Bone-In Ribeye: also tasteless. The most tasteless steak I have ever eaten. I do not believe it is prime beef. And also it was incredibly SMALL. You expect an inch-and-a-quarter-thick tasty piece of meat at this price. This half-inch-thick ribeye was just a small flat, soft thing with NO marbeling (tho the waitress told me I could expect heavy marbeling), and also ineptly prepared: I can introduce you to far better steaks at half the price in good Irish pubs. The ?petit filet?: Utterly greasy (too much butter). The ahi-tuna-and-crab ?stack?: A good concept but that dish should be cold, not warm. We fled before dessert. This restaurant is a disgrace to midtown Manhattan. Cons: Poor food at high prices more

Are you kidding me? 4/7/2007

This was my first visit to Ruth's Chris and although the wait staff was hospitable and ready to please, the food was average at most. The sides are a joke. $8.50 for a side of button mushrooms that looked like they were just thrown onto the plate with the butter sauce and warmed up. Another $8.50 for one potato sliced up into 6-8 wedges. Nothing special about these sides. Tasted mediocre. In addition, I had to send my entree back because it was not cooked properly. The replacement dish was not much better either. What I paid for was the customer service and a portion of their monthly lease. There are definitely better steakhouses out there offering better prices and food- Strip House, Mark Joseph to name a few. Pros: Great customer service, takes reservations online, good cocktails. Cons: Overpriced more

Valentine's day dinner... 2/14/2007

My boyfriend surprised me by bringing me to Ruth Chris and it was my first time here. He said that the steak are really good and i told him a long time ago that i wanted to try but we didn't get a chance to till today. It was good but wasn't as good as i expected. The service was really good but the steak i ordered was some what burnt and inside was really raw. I asked for a medium and inside seem like it's not been cooked. The price was a bit expensive and thats about it. Happii Valentines day~! Pros: The staffs are really nice Cons: The food is raw and the steak was burnt more

Ruth's: NY Version 12/29/2006

I came into Ruth's expecting the same sort of experiences from other Ruth Steak House cities, but the NY version was very different than I expected. Perhaps the service has improved somewhat, given the fact my waiter was extremely courteous and friendly. The rest of the waitstaff was fast, prompt, and attentive to our needs. The steaks, being the main attraction of any Ruth's, were succulent and juicy, nearly perfect as I've had at any of the finest steakhouses. Accompanied by some truly tasty sides, the food was beyond what I expected. With its location being in the theater district, I noticed the beautiful interior with carpeted floors, tuxedo waitstaff, beautifully designed furniture, and very soft music playing in the background. Not all is perfect, as the prices were outrageous. One might be able to pay rent from a single bill of 4 people eating. The steaks themselves were sold a la carte, not to be bundled or combined with potatoes, veggies, etc. All in all, its worth trying if you have never been to a Ruth Chris or are willing to pay more for good steak. You can probably find better or just as good food at a place that is more prestigious and potentially less expensive. Pros: Steak, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Prices more

Just OK 12/22/2006

Their steaks are just OK. You're better off going to Strip House for good meat. The service was good although we had a reservation and had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. The waiter was very friendly and gave us free dessert (anniversary dinner). I had the ribeye and it was decent but nothing special. They use a lot of butter here at Ruth's Chris so if you're not into that kind of steak better not come here. Prices are theater-district meaning a little overpriced. More value elsewhere but it's okay to try here once. more

Mediocre overpriced Tourist Trap 12/8/2006

This Manhattan outpost of the typically reliable Ruth's Chris is a total tourist trap. We had one of the worst meals we have ever paid for in NYC, particularly considering the price for such mediocrity. The steaks had been pre-cooked and came out with a ""gray"" color. One of our guests ordered Tuna which was oversalted. When she told the waiter it was too salty, he said (not kidding) ""Tuna is a salty fish. It swims in salt water."" The entire meal, from food to service to decor was poor. We decided to try it as a new pre-theatre alternative. We would never go back. Pros: Nothing noteworthy Cons: Poor food, overpriced, tourist trap more

Mmm, steak 10/29/2006

This is a steak house, situated just a few blocks away from a bunch of other steak houses. It competes by cooking a great steak. Filet, Porterhouse, New York strip, etc. Those kinds of steak. From what I've tasted, they're all extremely delicious, and I'm not even a steak lover. Still, the flavors on the steak were amazing, the meat was juicy and tender, and the ahi tuna appetizer was really good as well. more

What a horrible Experience! 8/24/2006

I like my steak medium well. This is very difficult for some of the ""top"" steak houses in the ity to understand sometimes, as was the case at Ruth Chris last week. My steak was presented to me by the friendly wait staff and was basically raw in the middle. Now usually if I ask for my steak med. well and it comes back med. I can deal with it, but this was really bad. So I sent it back and asked for them to cook it a little more. The piece of meat that was returned to the table was virtually impossible to even eat! First off, the wait staff was not so friendly after I sent the meat back, basically throwing it down on the table the second time around and then just walking away. The worst part of the whole thing was just how horribly they butchered my steak. It was shriveled up and burnt to a crisp, unedible by anyones standards, I mean it was way overcooked even if you asked for it well done. I concluded that the chef took disrespect in the fact that I sent it back an d basically ruined my meal on purpose, who knows. At forty-one dollars a steak I think I should be the one to determine how it gets cooked and not some uppitity chef in the Ruth Chris kitchen. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND bringing your business to another steakhouse, there are too many options in NYC that actually know the difference between medium well and unservable. Pros: cool bar area, waitress was nice Cons: they can't cook the steak correctly, experience turned sour after sending back the steak more

Great food, great service - one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Definitely try the veal ravioli-to die for! more

Kudos to Ruth's Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/16/2006

What else can be said, but an outstanding place to have a great steak for dinner. The only disappointment was on our second visit too many tourist taking a lot of pictures and where also dressed down ( we could have shown up in jeans, sneakers). That said Ruth's Chris is both highly recommended by my girlfriend and me. Pros: Food, Service, Drinks Cons: Picture Taking, dress code more

NOT HORRIBLE 3/30/2006

WE ARRIVED EXACTLY 8 MIN LATE, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE BOOTH I REQUESTED WAS GIVEN AWAY. ONCE SEATED(APPROX 45 MIN LATER) THE WAITRESS GAVE US THE RUNDOWN.(i.e DON'T TOUCH THE 500 DEGREE PLATE)I ORDERED THE CRAB CAKES AND HE HAD THE BARBEQUE SHRIMP. EXCELLENT START. FOR THE ENTREE, I HAD THE FILET HE HAD THE NY STRIP. ALTHOUGH GOOD, IT WAS NOTHING THAT COULDN'T BE DONE AT HOME. WHILE DISTRACTED BY FLASHES OF THE PAPARAZZI(DRUNK TOURIST WITH CAMERAS) WE DID MANAGE TO CARRY ON A CONVERSATION OVER THE 20FT TABLE. THE DRINKS WEREN'T BAD(THUMBS UP ON THE PEACH BELLINI) AND SERVICE WAS ON POINT. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NIGHT... CREME BRULEE, CRAB CAKES. FOR 2 APPS, 2 ENTREES,2 SIDES, 3 DRINKS 1 DESSERT AND TIP THE BILL CAME TO $240. I'VE SEEN WORSE. OVERALL.... RECOMMENDED. WOULD I GO BACK?........ YES. IF SOMEONE ELSE PICKED UP THE CHECK.......... EVEN BETTER! Pros: CRAB CAKES , PEACH BELLINI, CREME BRULEE Cons: TOURIST more

Bad service from waiter 1/31/2006

Everyone else but our waiter was very attentive, but he could not be bothered. I would hate for anyone to miss a Ruths Chris steak, but tonight our waiter was just...too busy with one other table, to be bothered. Very disappointing. more

What do you mean this place is a franchise? 1/19/2006

We arrived early for our reservation and the staff was most accomodating. We were seated promptly and the service was very good. We started with Lobster Bisque and Louisiana Seafood Gumbo, which were excellent, followed by our entrees, a Petit Filet and a NY Strip which were cooked to perfection and accompanied by Sweet Potato Casserole which could have been presented as a dessert it tasted so good and Broccoli Au Gratin which was also very good. The desserts were out of this world and a fitting conclusion to a fine meal. The only improvement I would suggest would be to include a salad with the entree. Other than that, everything was outstanding. Heartily recommended! more

As good as PETER LUGER! 1/13/2006

I know it's a chain, but I swear every time I come here I marvel at the steaks. They really are as good as Luger, and the atmosphere is SOOOOO much nicer. If you can't make it out to Brooklyn, don't settle for crap like Wolfgangs. Check out Ruth's Chris. Pros: Mouthwatering steak, awesome sides Cons: mediocre au gratin, expensive more

Mmmmmm! 12/27/2005

Went to dine at RC the other night and it was excellent. The food was delicious, the staff very curtious. The decor very nice. The cons I would say were there were some people dressed nicely, while others came in to dine in a sweatshirt or with cell phones in their ears. Definatly a turn off. The drinks are over priced in my book as well. All in all a very nice dinging experience. I will definatly go back again. more

terrific!!! 11/7/2005

After several visits I have had nothing but wonderful experiences. I look forward to return trips with eager anticipation. more
