Ok, here's a review before it even opens up! Next week!! Dizzy's is the intimate Jazz Club at Jazz @ Lincoln Center @ the AOL-TimeWarner Building opens to the public. It was open for architectural New York weekend, so I got a chance to check out the space. It sounds GREAT. Food catered by Spoonbread (YUM!!), main acts $30, student performer acts $15, after-hours jam sessions $10 !! Small, really sweet space. Wynton Marsalis lives around the corner, so I'm hoping to catch the after-hours (starting at 11pm) scene. Since Small's is closed, this promises to be a good alternative. Coincidentally, Wynton was doing a sound check while I was there. He sounded awesome.

Throw out the clock, put on your smocks and paint to your heart's (or wallet's) content.
"Our Name is Mud," is a kids-friendly, great for all ages, pottery paint bar, You are the one to create and design your own housewares! Over 100 items, you select your pottery of choice, and then let your imagination take over.
For the novice, they also offer paint pencils, stencils, sponges, and books to help unleash the creative you! If you don't like the design, don't worry, you can easily wash it all off and start over!
Ceramics are dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe, and all materials are nontoxic.
They also have adults only, late nights. Offered on Thursdays and Fridays after 5pm, no kids, food and alcohol are allowed. So one can have their own wine and cheese party!
The staff who run the place are enthusiastic, friendly, and very helpful. They know a thing or two about wines too. This place is awesome.
Though they have four locations, only three (Upper West Side, Upper East Side and Village) are actual paint bars.
Pieces are ready for pick-up a week later.
In addition to the cost of the pottery, they charge $5 by the half hour.
Great place to get reconnected with the child in you!

More
I haven't been overly impressed with the New York Children's Museum as a museum. Perhaps their programs for schools are different, but when our family has gone there on the weekends there exhibits/acitivities haven't struck me as particularly educational. More like fun play areas tied in with a book or tv show (e.g. Dr. Seuss or Dora).
That said, we don't really regret the money ($145) we payed for a family membership (which gives you unlimited use). Because if you have young kids (4 and under), CMOM is a kick ass indoor play area. Your child will easily be able to kill 2 hours there, which is quite a nice option to have on days with inclement weather.
Plus, there is Zabar's, Barnes and Noble, and the Museum of Natural History (a real museum!) within a few blocks.

It is actually fun to walk into the NBC store and look around once, but there's really nothing anyone would really want to buy. $13 mugs, $30 t-shirts with a huge picture of Screech from Saved by the Bell, and other similar tools to make the average tourist look like a walking TV advertisement are all there. Skip the store and get tickets to Conan O'Brien.

More
The Palace Theatre was well-known on the vaudeville circuit as THE place to play. When movies squashed vaudeville's monopoly on entertainment, the theatre fell into a quiet period until the Nederlanders renovated it for use as a legit theatre in the 1960s. Since that time, the Palace has been the home of some of the greatest musical shows and events in New York history. Solo shows by Bette Midler, Judy Garland & Josephine Baker are only some of the non-theatrical events that have played the Palace. Elton John seems to like it - both AIDA & LESTAT have played here.
Wheelchair seating is only available through the box office. The theatre is conveniently located on the east side of 7th Avenue right at the TKTS booth.

More
The Dahesh Museum is located on tony Madison Avenue, which partially explains its high admission fees. ($9 for an adult!) It is an art museum focusing on Middle Eastern and European art, most of which is classical. They have a nice little store at the street level, which is connected via an atrium to Trump Tower, and a cute cafe on the top floor. The gallery itself is in the basement. I liked the artworks that were on display, but I felt that the gallery was tiny and not worth the admission charge. If you are not a big art fan, this is the type of place that you can explore in under an hour.
I thought the cafe was pretty nice, but it was too crowded. The shop had some wonderful collectibles and souvenirs, but the prices were high. (What do you expect in a museum?) If you are passing by, this is an "off the beaten path" kind of stop that you can make. Just don't plan a day around a visit here.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall ? The F train. Seriously Carnegie Hall is one of those rare cultural institutions that lives up to its reputation. The seats are extremely comfortable and the programming is always interesting and diverse. From great classical ensembles, violin virtuosos, famous pianists, top notch jazz to rock bands like Jethro Tull. If you've never been take a look at their schedule of upcoming events and purchase a ticket. You'll be enriched by the experience.

I've been visiting the American Museum of Natural
History for over 55 years. In my opinion it's the
finest museum of its kind. The exhibits are constantly changing (and growing). It's a fun
(and learning place) for both young an old. The
new cafeteria is a bit pricie so I wouldn't recommend having lunch there ... anyhow there
are some nice (and less expensive) luncheon
spots in the neighborhood. Plan to spend a full
day there and try to fit in to your day an Imax
viewing and a visit to the Planetarium.

This place has an area where you can watch sports events live, it is sort of a lounge/ dining area. It really gets busy here. Getting a table is difficult and the food is really not that great. It is typical pub food but it doesn’t taste that great and it is overpriced. The best part of the ESPN Zone is the interactive gaming section.

If you haven't visited UCB yet, you must go now.
If you can find another hilarious show in midtown New York for under 10 bucks I'll eat my hat.
UCB has multiple shows every night. They range from sketch comedy to long form improv (No, it's not like "Whose line is it anyway?"),
It's a cozy theater. It's a good idea to call in advance. Plan on waiting in line about 40 minutes prior to showtime.
