Tina is smart, hard working, incredibly dedicated to her patients, and takes the time to really listen to what they have to say. And the fact that I'm her husband makes me only slighly biased. Of course, don't ask her any medical questions not directly related to epilepsy or neurology. For these, she's useless.

I'm actually recommending Dr. Kwan because my wife Tina (a Doctor) went to medical school with a plastic surgeon, Matthew Hanasono, who recommends Dr. Kwan. According to Matt, "he does a lot of eyelid surgery (and actually specializes in asian eyelids) and is very good."

According to my wife's medical school friend Matt Hanasono, who went on to become a plastic surgeon, Dr. Gayle is "one of the best surgeons ever." On the down side, however, he is very, very busy, so it may be impossible to get an appointment with him.

Very good dentist, very personable. What I like is that sometimes she personally does some work that her hygenist would usually do. You feel like you're the good hands of someone who takes her job seriously.

I've worked with Dr. Kenny on numerous occasions and I have found him to be insightful, thoughtful and practical. As a physician, I shouldn't be riffing on my colleagues, but I don't think that many psychiatrists have a clue about people or how to connect to people. Dr. Kenny is an outstanding exception and well-worth his $400 initial consultation fee. He is also an expert psychopharmacologist (someone who is great with all the complicated medications).

My Dentist is Better Than Ken's

More
Growing up I was spoiled, dentist-wise, by my mom's best friend's husband, Steve Hinkis, so much so that I couldn't even understand jokes involving the pain of dentistry. After Steve retired to live on a golf-course on Long Island, I went to a dentist once on the Upper West Side where I bled for an hour at the hands of a young hygenist and was then admonished for about 3 seconds by I think a dentist for chewing too much on ice. Then I got computer generated "personal" notes from the practice every 6 months reminding me about my next cleaning. Needless to say, I stayed away from dentistry for a while after that.
I will admit I was skeptical when my fashionable then-fiancee recommended I go see Margaret O'Reilly, who she heard about from colleagues at Harper's Bazaar and who supposedly cleaned and whitened the teeth of beauty editors and runway models. Only for our wedding photos, I reluctantly agreed. As usual my wife's instincts were correct and my initial skepticism was unwarranted and unfair.
Margaret O'Reilly turned out to be a wonderful dentist and here are a few reasons why:
*No hygenist, does all the work herself
*A one woman show:
-Answers her own phone
-Makes her own appointments
-Does her own billing
*Didn't get mad, pre-double-root-canal, when I made her review my x-rays with the retired Steve Hinkis (who agreed with her impression and plan)
*When I was in pain, after the double-root canal, I called her up at 1AM and she was sympathetic, scheduled me for an 8AM appointment next day, figured out the problem, and relieved my pain
*Stutters, which proves she's overcome adversity
*Agreed to see my annually instead of every 6 months even against ADA guidelines
*Gave me a discount
*Sends formal reminders that don't fake intimacy, although I feel she knows me well
Have I gone on too long? Give her a call at 212-688-7677.

Hi there
Dr. Nina Desai is great - she's a young, smart doctor who's up on all the latest developments and really takes the time to diagnose you rather than rushing you in and out (usually anyway, sometimes she's really busy, she has a lot of patients).
She's also very good about returning phone calls and answering questions on the phone. I've recommended her to other friends too, and everyone's happy with her.
She takes most insurance.

then this is the place for you! When I signed up for last summer, I had a choice of about 15 HMO companies and about 15,000 primary care doctors. I decided to pick one close to my apartment and call it a day. Later that fall, when I began having insane back pains, I decided to pay my first visit to my new doctor, Dr. Mellamed.
I was pleased with the short wait, only to realize why. After listening to me describe my symptoms for about fifteen seconds, Dr. Mellamed gets up and leaves the room. When he returns, he has three unmarked small paper envelopes full of various pills. "Take these," he ordered in a thick accent. And before I could ask for further instructions, he had moved on to the next patient.
I took the pills, got on the subway, and went to the only source of familiar medical sanity: Planned Parenthood. After a very long wait, my nurse practitioner got out her prescription guide to check out what the good doctor had given me. Apparently, he had given me a combination of laxatives, antacids, and strong pain relievers...she promptly instructed me to throw the pills away and proceeded to give me a thorough exam.

This is a store is very convenient to pick up an emergency item. It usually has everything in stock that is on sale. The only problem is that this store is set-up with very tight aisles, Two people can barely pass each other in the same aisle, making shopping for a long list of items inconvenient. Some of the staff here is friendly, while others are not.
