The doctors here are just so nice. They are very easy to talk to about treatment issues when my cat was sick, and are very nice on normal check up visits. My cat always seems to behave properly under their gentle approach. Once when she was bandaged they decorated her bandage with cute little hearts

I took my two cats to Riverside Animal Clinic when I first got them eight years ago, but stopped because they were so bad. Once, when I took my cat for a check-up, they put him on an examination table that was covered with hair and smelled strongly of dog. A few minutes later, somone began banging away on a drum set in the basement (where the sick dogs and cats stay). Unbelievable, but true. My cat was so scared he peed himself, something he's never done before or since. From that point on, I took them elsewhere. Recently, however, my other cat got sick, and my regular vet was closed, so I took him to Dr. Ramos. What a mistake. When the test results came in, the vet tech took it upon himself to read them to me and give me a diagnosis of kidney failure (which was incorrect--this was not the primary diagnosis). He then gave me (unclear) extended care instructions and sold me supplies for the kidney failure that he had misdiagnosed. After I left, the vet tech sedated and performed dentistry on my cat. I believe that this was done WITHOUT THE DOCTOR'S PRESENCE. When I finally spoke to the actual doctor, he told me that my cat's kidneys weren't too bad, and that he suspected there was another problem with the cat's liver. I took my cat out of there and to a specialist, and received the actual diagnosis--lymphoma with some secondary early-stage kidney disease. The specialists were appalled that a vet (or his tech) sedated and performed dentistry on such a sick cat. The vet tech's actions (and Dr. Ramos's negligent supervision) put my cat in real danger, and may have seriously impaired his ability to recover from a potentially fatal illness. If your animal has an emergency, take him or her straight to AMC or NYC Veterinary Specialists.

Marvelous team of doctors and nurses. Great medicine and compassionate care. I wouldn't take my dog or cat any where else in NYC. I have had great experiences with several of their doctors. Dr. Brodsky, Dr. Cantor and others too.

I've been to St. Mark's Veterinary Hospital twice - both for sick pet rats. I really, really appreciated the fact that they were as respectful to me as they were to people who came in with more traditional pets like cats and dogs. The desk staff and all of the vets and assistants that I spoke to were very nice, calm and knowledgeable, and, most importantly, gave a sense of understanding that when your pet's sick it can seem like the end of the world. I was also impressed that the vet helped me understand what was wrong - like showing me how she could tell that my rat was dehydrated.
I was particularly impressed when I had to take one of my rats in to be put to sleep. The Dr. explained what was going to happen and, even though it was already early evening, gave me as much time as I needed to say goodbye. The experience hit me harder than I expected, and the vet and the receptionist were both so concerned at how much I was crying that they checked to make sure that I had somewhere to go and someone to be with afterward.

I've tried a few vets in NYC and found that Feline Health was the best fit for my cats. I've been taking my two cats there for 7 years now. The doctors and staff are extremely comfortable working with cats which in turn makes your cats feel comfortable being there. They are very knowledgeable and won't recommend services that are unnecessary. The prices are comparable to other vets in NYC maybe even lower...but the service is definitely higher than in other clinics/hospitals. Plus they have off hour emergency service if you're already a client and weekend hours which really helps.

It's funny because on the surface, this looks like a great vet. The staff are friendly and the walls are plastered with pictures of presumably happy pets. The thing is, he doesn't really listen. He won’t give me a prescription for the food I said worked better than the one he’s put my cats on. He was extraordinarily rude to my friend when he brought in my sick cat. It’s ok if you’re looking for something close, and I’m sure other people will disagree with me, but I’m just not happy and won’t be taking my cats there any more.

I brought my new kitten that I had adopted from the city shelter to Dr. Simon at the Animal Hospital of Chelsea.
The hospital offered a free exam with any adoption from the CACC. Although the exam was free he took at least a half hour explaining kitten care and dealing with my kitten's problems. I have been back with my Jack my Burmese cat and always get caring and attentive service from everyone at the hospital. When I was sick the other day, one of the nurses actually dropped off some medication for Jack that I wouldn't have been able to pick up for a few days.

If you have pets then you’ll understand how difficult it is to find the right vet. It’s been a long and bumpy journey but I believe that I have found that vet here at the Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital. Their staffs of veterinarians are experienced and professional but it’s more than that. They are very caring and genuine with your pet. They treat your pet as their pet. Which I feel is one of the most important factors in choosing a vet. I’ve been with this place for about 5 years and I can honestly say their service provided is above and beyond the norm. My vet has actually called me on her time off just to check in on my dog. No other vet does that. The staff are friendly and caring. The clinic is clean and without urine scents. It’s just a great all around hospital. I would highly recommend this place.
Though they are a bit pricey, the caring nature and experience they offer is clearly more important.

Animal General is a great veterinary environment -- my pets are never scared to go there or put off once they are inside. I have always been very happy with the vet services I've received there and the prices are competitive. The desk staff is friendly and helpful, and the vet is great with my cat. I recommend it as a great place to take any pet.

(I originally reviewed Dr. Thompson under Heights Veterinary Clinic)
Dr. Moses and Dr. Thompson are a husband and wife team who run a small, capable veterinary practice in Washington Heights. After a horrible experience with another vet in the neighborhood, I gave them a shot and was delighted by the service, reception and treatment given to my cat. Unfortunately, they don't board, but the helpful staff of young women seemed to be constantly accomodating customer requests for petsitting, which is a nice alternative. Everyone seemed content at this place, even the animals, which makes a nice difference from the other neighborhood vet, which is dark and gloomy and depressing (and more expensive!). The vets themselves were professional but never condescending, gentle with my cat and happy to answer all my questions. I highly recommend taking your animals to them.
