I've commercially participated in experiencing at every exceptional Japanese cuisine in nyc. and I'll tell you one thing, "Kai is a knockout!" Chef Yamasaki's intimate delicacy devours your appetite. The truth shall be found in Chef Yamasaki's hands. I love him and his restaurant.
The door is open for everyone, who dreams of such bliss.
Don't forget to try Kagoshima or his Omakase!
Pros: Excecutive Chef Yamasaki
Cons: None

Cute small tucked away coffee with atmospheric city photos. But the best Granita in town! None of that fake dunkin donuts/coolata or premade stuff around town in bakeries. Individually and lovingly make with strong java! Quaint hang out bench by the shaded foliage in the front as well.

This Starbucks is friendly, offers some space for the sightseer to sit, relax, have some coffee and get some downtime while running around in the Gramercy Park Area.
Staff is helpful and coffee is up to the usual Starbucks standards. Tables and floor is clean, bathroom is ample and clean as well.
A great place to stop, get your bearings and refresh near Gramercy Park.

In defence of the staff at think! okay so you get the odd sullen barista but generally I love this place and teh people who work there. I go nearly everyday as do most of the NYU law students who live in the law dorm one minute away. The coffee is great, I live on their soup and sandwiches(even if they're a little expensive) and the hot paninis after 7pm are great too (especially the chicken one). The cakes are so-so maybe, but the cookies are yum. The music is good, only downpoint is that its often hard to find a seat. But seriously, I don't know what I'd do if think didn't exist.
Pros: great coffee, nice atmosphere
Cons: can be crowded, and sometimes a long wait for coffee

Starbucks is everywhere. If you stand at certain intersections in the city (cough cough Astor Place!), you are within view of 3 different Starbucks! Starbucks is a great place to grab a cup of coffee, eat a sandwich, catch up with friends or colleagues, study, use wireless internet, read the newspaper, or simply just relax. A decade ago, few of us could imagine paying upwards of $3 for a cup of coffee, but nowadays, for many of us, a cup of Starbucks has become a necessity in order to start the day right.

You'd probably find a million coffee spots in the city to relax on a Sunday afternoon and Chelsea Coffee Company fits right into such a category. Nestled all the way over on 9th Avenue, you'll get the laid back vibe of the Chelsea area and definitely avoid the usual crowds of the city. There's more than enough selection of coffee and teas at your fingertips, and the staff (usually just a single person) is friendly. This certainly isn't the kinda place where you get your drink and run. You can actually stay a while and many regulars simply plop down with their laptops or newspapers and will be there long after their cup is empty. There's a very small area sit in outside and most of the area inside is dominated by everything you'll need to mix up a great cup of coffee.

Somehow, the Coffee Pot survives. Despite the over saturation of Manhattan by a certain Seattle brewer, this local coffee spot lives on. There are always patrons in there and most of the time, they purchase coffee, iced coffee, espresso beverages and/or Krispy Kremes to consume while they sit.
A recent renovation (or just a clean-up?) has brightened up the corner shop.
I am not a fan of the coffee here, but have been known to purchase a tea or a juice here to support the little man.
