Orwasher's is another old New York business. The family-owned bread bakery has been at the same Upper East Side location since 1916. While it no longer has sawdust on the floors (as it did in my own childhood) the bread is as fantastic today as it's always been. Because everything is baked fresh daily, it's best to get your bread in the morning, to asure the best quality and the softest rolls. I particularly recommend the onion pockets (in regular and jumbo size) and the raisin cinnamon bread. Wonderfully, their website provides photos and ingredients lists for all of their products. Not listed on teh site is their small selection of dessert items, that usually includes kosher choices as well.

was quickly digested. the cheesecake was passed

I always come here for my pastries, because they are just really good. The shop itself smells really good and the staff is extremely friendly, making it a pleasant experience to come here. Its not that expensive, and you'll always leave stuffed!

Amy's rocks. The best bread in the city with a few locations throughout. But get the full experience and go to 9th ave located in what is heaven on earth: Chelsea Market. Go for the bread and stay for pretty much everything else you could possibly want.
Amy's is consistently well priced, but the best bargain is the many different rolls, and the daily specials cannot be beat, making it almost a daily destination. Atkins fans, I pity you.

I don't go to magnolia for their cupcakes, because to be completely honest, they aren't that good, but i just LOVE their banana pudding, its sooo good. Its definitely worth the long line, dont bother with the cupcakes, you can get better ones from somewhere else.

They sell fantastic Bialys, bagels, and more. Some of their merchandise includes spreads that can be used to make a full lunch. Opens early in the morning and closes late at night.
