PS 130 is located in the heart of chinatown and little italy. As such, the students there are predominately chinese. located within the district 2 area the school has recieved a large amount of funding and budget from the state. It is by no means a poor school. The school is very well runned and filled with dedicated teachers and staff. The last time i check, the college rate for this school is extremely high. Math and reading scores are decent too.

This is my high school, so perhaps I'm a bit biased. On the flip side, who can tell you more about a school than someone who attended it? You definitely get a fantastic education at Stuy and tons of opportunities to challenge yourself with college-level classes. There are many, many student-run organizations that allow kids to develop leadership skills necessary in THE REAL WORLD!! The teachers are quite possibly the best in the entire city -- the relationship between the students and teachers is one of the utmost respect on both sides. It's amazing. It' s almost a utopia, but utopoas never exist. The biggest issue with Stuy is the level of competition faced by the students... but I still love it.

This is arguably the worst High School in New York City. The place is rundown and busted. The school as well as the neighborhood is unsafe. The stairwells at this school is disgusting with dripping water and broken glass. The lights are dim and not at all proficient for teaching.
This school consists of many immigrants who just migrated from another country; so there are a lot of non-English speakers at this school. It is also next to the Baruch Project housings, which is not exactly the greatest or safest of neighborhoods.
Students should avoid this school at all cost. It is not the most dangerous High School is NYC (that would probably be Lafayette High School) but it is still a poor excuse for a school.

PS 6 is always one of the top ranked public schools in District 2. If you don't live in the zone, try to get a variance but usually, your child has to pass evaluation first and spots are very limited. Strong sibling policy so if you can get one child in, the other child is automatically in.
Well financed PTA helps pay for many extras.
Pay attention to make sure your child is keeping up with the work. Many dedicated teachers but not every one.

When i went to robert f wagner, the education i recieved was absolutely phenomenal one that rivaled many top private schools. The teachers prepared us in the finest way possible. Unfortunately, i went to wagner for only two years. Those years carried me through high school and college. However, that wagner is largely gone. Many of the damn good teachers have left. It still offers a decent public school education just get into the sp or specialized classes and you will be fine.

If you are the parent of an entering 8th grader in September, it is time to look for a high school. Baruch College Campus HS (BCCHS) is a gem of the NYC public school system. They recently graduated their fifth class of which my daughter was a member. It has been sited as one of the country's best public high schools by US News and Business Reports and a 100% college acceptance rate of their students. Located on the campus of Baruch College, their space is limited but that does nothing to diminish the school spirit fostered here. Small enough that almost all the teachers know each and every student, it is a young school led by the dynamic Alicia Perez-Katz and her staff of teachers, many of whom are in their mid 20's & 30's. All subjects are taught at the honors level and extra curricular activities are actively encouraged; there are no home rooms as such but each group of about 20-25 students are assigned to an advisory with a teacher who remains with them through graduation. In addition to the dynamic faculty, the school also has a very active PTA .

The Cathedral School is an independent, Episcopal, K-8 day school for boys and girls of all faiths. The school is committed to a rigorous academic program that integrates the arts, athletics and leadership development. One of the main missions of the school is promoting diversity among different religions, race, ethnicity and socio-economic. The faculty and student body are very diverse. The classes are small (maximum of 16 children), and the faculty genuinely cares about the intellectual, ethical, social and emotional growth of each individual child. Another benefit of the school is that it is located on the grounds of the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, leaving many opportunities to bring learning outdoors. Many specialty classes are offered such as art, music, science, violin, physical education, as well as French and Spanish, all starting in Kindergarten.

Speaking from experience, I am a graduate of De La Salle Academy and can say that this school was certainly a milestone in my education, as well as my classmates from then and beyond. It is a middle school, serving grade 6-8 and really will put your child on the right path to choosing a great private high school/boarding school and eventually college. Many of my classmates and former student went on to attend some of the nation's finer colleges and universities, like Harvard, Columbia, NYU, Yale, Cornell, and the list just goes on. At just a single floor on top of another school DLSA brings in students from all over the city, regardless of background and lets the best students be around some of the best teachers. There is a close -knit community atmosphere, so all of the kids get to know one another and the staff is extrememly involved in the lives of the students. For me, this school was the difference between staying in the public school system or going on to something better. The area surrounding the school is pleasant, on 97th and Amsterdam Ave and though the admissions process is tough, you'll know that your child will be in one of the more elite, life altering schools in the city.

Stay away from this Junior High School. Don't ever let your child go there. The education is poor, the teachers are dumb, and the school is not safe. Your child will receive a lot of bad influence just by attending there. The education is so poor that I do not believe I learned anything from that school.
They lack good afterschool programs and educated teachers. Once there was a fire in a classroom and the substitute teacher just ran out of the class leaving the students to fend for themselves.
This school is not safe. I got roughed up a couple of times while there. Stay away.
