Different Choices 4/22/2006

I often find myself at Lincoln Plaza (just north of Columbus Circle on Broadway) to see films that don't make it to the mass appeal large chain movie houses (Mrs. Henderson Presents, Ushpizin, Capote before it was deemed Oscar worthy). The theaters are small -- narrow rectangles giving just about everyone "center view" of the screen. They don't let you into the theater more than a few minutes before the previews start, so grab a coffee after you buy your tickets or sit in the small lobby and wait to be let in. more

Never a bad movie 10/6/2005

I love to see movies at these theater because I know that they're always going to be good. The movies are independent or foreign and they have always won awards at international film festivals. The snack bar is unusal in that smoked salmon sandwiches are sold for exhorbitant prices. It's a fun place to go, nonetheless. To order tickets online, you have to go to a special website, www.lincolnplazacinema.com. Enjoy! more

Independant/foreign Film Mecca 8/21/2005

Lincoln Plaza Cinemas is one of those places that you know you'll always see a good film. Mostly showing foreign or independent film, the Lincoln Plaza Cinemas often is the only theatre showing a particular film. The Angelica Theatre on Houston is quite similar to this theatre. Big films often sell out so I would recommend buying your tickets in advance. Some of my favorite films ever I've seen here. My only gripe is that the seating isn't raked well. When it's a packed house and there's subtitles to read you'll be moving your head from side to side to see the screen. more

Reliable 8/19/2005

Lincoln Plaza Cinemas is the most reliable art cinema in NY. On any given day, there are at least two films worth seeing playing there. SO although the seats are far from the most comfortable, and the prices are, like everywhere else, too high, the Lincoln Plaza shows superb films consistently. The popcorn and refreshments are modest, but much more reasonably priced than most establishments. more

Outdated and uncomfortable 8/15/2005

This movie theater needs to join the 21st century. The theaters only seat around 100, and I've seen bigger screens in friends' homes. The sound is terrible and the seats of course are not stadium so you have to peer around people's heads to see. For $10.50 per person (no student discounts) it is a huge rip off. more
