I love to see movies at these theater because I know that they're always going to be good. The movies are independent or foreign and they have always won awards at international film festivals. The snack bar is unusal in that smoked salmon sandwiches are sold for exhorbitant prices. It's a fun place to go, nonetheless. To order tickets online, you have to go to a special website, www.lincolnplazacinema.com.
Enjoy!

The Angelika is what all independent movie theaters should aspire to be. It has multiple screens showing the best in non-Blockbuster film-making. The theater shows award-winning films and lesser known films of equally high caliber. It is also not afraid to push boundaries and show controversial films. The screens have great resolution, the sound is perfect, the staff friendly and helpful. There is also a lovely café to grab a light snack with café tables throughout the lobby to hang out and eat before or a movie or just to pop in and grab something without seeing a film.
Only drawback is that every once in a while you hear the subway rumble beneath you.

The Hayden Planetarium is actually now called the Rose Space Center and is directly adjacent to the American Museum of Natural History (my favorite museum). The Space Center is very impressive from outside, and is more impressive from out that from in, but still nice to see. It's great to bring kids - there is a walk through space-time and gives you some kind of relative understanding of the size of the universe. It's a nice experience for any visitor!

This is without a doubt my favorite museum in the city, perhaps the country. It is such a rich combination of history, biology, anthropology, and sociology that details the description of living things from molecular biological perspective to socioeconomics and is accurate and clear in its descriptions. The museum is very children-friendly and is a great place for kids and adults of all ages to get an education.

I do not think I have ever seen a bad movie at this theater. The selection is always excellent, there are lots of available showtimes, and the movies are always great. Sunshine Cinema has many artsy, independent movies, and many foreign movies as well. Oh, and documentaries too! I can remember seeing Napolean Dynamite, the Yes Men, Mean Creek, and the House of Stone and Fog. I liked all of them (except the last one). I highly recommend checking out a flik there; it is very enjoyable. And the people who work there are very helpful in advising what to see!

This is another example of the kind of cavernous movie theater that is taking over Manhattan. While it is good for a crowd, and the seats are basically comfortable, with arms that raise and have a cup holder in them, you have to climb multiple levels (with an escalator) to get to your theater. When you get to your designated level, at least the times I've been there, there was no usher available to steer me towards the correct theater. The candy & popcorn are, of course, unfathomably expensive, making it best to bring your treats from outside. Because they have so many theaters, it is pretty easy to get a good seat.

Cinema Village is in a cool old building, and it's large theatre is a great space. Unfortunately its seats are very uncomfortable, and the concession stand is weak. Also several of the other screening rooms in teh place are so tiny as to be laughable. Give it a pass. There are better mainstream and alternative theatres in the neighborhood.
