Not everyone goes looking for good Italian in the 50s off of Sixth Avenue. Those who do are pleasantly surprised by Osteria Del Circo, run by the famous Sirio (of Le Cirque)'s sons. The food is good, the atmosphere is fun and you will walk out with a smile on your face.
Located next to the Ziegfeld movie theatre, Circo is a white tablecloth place that does not intimidate. The food is good, if not great. The servers are knowledgeable and pleasant. The variety is wide enough to satisfy most any diner.

I try not to eat too much bread, so am usually averse to picking a restaurant with "Bread" in the name, but I popped in this location for breakfast this week and had a smashing egg and cheese on a bagel. Everything was fresh and quickly made. I got out of there for under $5, including a very large bottle of water.
It was clean and had some seating available for patrons. The pre-made wrap sandwiches looked delicious. I think I will stop by one day at lunch and try one out. Overall, I had a great experience here.

When I am in rehearsals or performance in midtown, I love to pop into Daily Soup for a quick meal. I especially enjoy the tomato cream soups here (tomato bisque, tomato cheddar). The price is right and the soup is always good.
There are also salads and sandwiches, but I am too into the soup to try anything else. I have not yet been tempted by the baked goods as I do not think that they bake them in-house. More for me to try next time!

Since beginning my time in New York, Veselka has been one of my favorite late night eating joints. Whether I have just finished a show or a night of beers out on the town, few things satisfy like a genuine pierogi or stuffed cabbage.
This does not mean you can't visit Veselka in daylight hours (I am not just talking about briefly after sunrise). I have been here for a late lunch or early dinner and not been disappointed (you know...sometimes you have good drunk food that doesn't taste that great when you are sober). It is almost always crowded.

Recently, I had my worst audition ever - trust me on that. I was feeling very low and needed a pick me up (and not just because my bloodsugar was in the dumps). Luckily, the audition was by one of my favorite places for a treat - Amy's Bread in Chelsea Market. I loaded up on a cafe au lait and some carb-olicious bread sticks. I couldn't have been happier unless I had gotten a callback.
There are a couple of cafe tables in this Amy's if you want to sit and enjoy your snacks. Smell the bread all the way down the hall!

I enjoy a good cupcake. Of course, my favorite are homemade, but I don't like to keep two dozen little temptations around my house. The best alternative is hitting a bakery like Billy's to satisfy your hunger for buttercream topped sugary cake delicious nuggets, otherwise known as cupcakes.
Billy's is one of the several Magnolia/Buttercup spinoffs in and around Manhattan. The reason I like the cupcakes from here is that they last more than just one day. Buy on Monday, eat on Tuesday OR Wednesday and you will still enjoy the cake (you will be on a bit of a sugar buzz too).
You can even hit it after 10pm on a Saturday night and join the masses...

What is a girl to do when her dinner or show in Chelsea is out and she doesn't know where to spend the rest of the evening? Head over to 23rd Street and 10th Avenue to the Half King and enjoy a couple of pints (Irish, English, Belgian). We have ended up here after nights at Chelsea Piers or dinner in the neighborhood. It is usually crowded on weekends, but I am not sure about weeknights. If you have table service late night, 20% will be added to the bill -- don't miss it when looking at the check through your beer goggles.
I have eaten lunch here on outside benches during the summer. Food is good and the price is reasonable. I highly recommend the walnut fudge brownie, although I am not a fan of the vanilla gelato served aside it.

For those who love Smith & Wollensky's but can't stand either the wait or the tables of expense account diners, Wollensky's Grill is the answer. The menu is just about the same (if not identical), the quality of the food and service is high and there is a good chance you will be able to sit down shortly after your arrival.
The bar gets very crowded in late afternoon and early evening as the barkeeps entertain local suits burning off steam from the workday.
I recommend any of the steaks as well as the phenomenal (and huge) hamburger. You will not leave hungry, but your wallet will be more than a tad emptier than when you arrived.

We recently ate at O Mai with a group of 10 for a friend's birthday. I did not even look at the menu as we chose to eat a family style tasting menu. The food was delicious, from spring rolls and jumbo shrimp rolls to chicken & sweet potatoes in peanut sauce. The evening was capped off with lychee and champagne sorbet served alongside Vietnamese coffee (a treat for anyone who likes very sweet caffeinated items, as it is sweetened with condensed milk).
Our bill was a bit high as we were drinking wine with dinner. The food was reasonably priced for Chelsea and we had a comfortable table in the back by the bar. Service was excellent.

Whether you are in Grand Central for your commute or live on the northern half of Manhattan and don't feel like trekking down to Bleecker Street, Murray's is a must-stop-shop in the food hall on the Lexington Avenue side of GCT. The staff is helpful and there is a wide variety (granted, not as big as the main shop on Bleecker, but it will probably serve your need) of cheeses to try. In addition, Murray's stocks nuts, yogurt, dried fruits, preserves and other good accompaniments to the cheese.
If you are not sure what you want, ask for a taste. Again, the staff is very helpful. If you ask for 4 ounces, you get 4. They don't push you, which is refreshing.
