Best

just a great place to dine. I took my wife here and she absolutly loved it. the food was presented fantastic and tasted great. However the portions were a bit small and pricey. yo...

Worst

The food is marginal - not ""bad"" per se, but not what you'd expect at the price. The only thing worth recommending is the view: from the 47th floor of the Mariott Marquis hotel ...

great view, ok food 6/15/2011

I've been there once, and the view was great. Probably best in the city. Food was ok. Overall pricey however. Expect over 200 for two people. more

Just go for drinks and the view 7/3/2010

The view is to die for, true. But the food just might kill you.\r \r Seriously, if you served this crud at street level, you wouldn't be in business for a week in a town that has so much to offer in cusine. The food is terrible, overpriced, and the selection is poor. Like someone else said, the place was empty. I had the same elevator experience as another reviewer too. We complained to the manger (Which we honestly NEVER do.) and he seemed amazed. He said he has 600 people a day through there and they love it. I think the Marriot should schedule him for a drug test, because there is just no way. Look at the other reviews and tell me that again, pal. To his credit, he compensated the meal. If you want to enjoy the view, then just go for drinks and save yourself the heartache.\r Pros: Great View Cons: Bad food, mediocre service more

Ugh! Please.... 4/21/2010

I went there last weekend at around 6PM and 1st off, the elevator was a p.i.t.a since you had to punch in a code to get to the 48th floor. Then you are seated at the lounge instead of the dining area, which I had no clue of until I noticed no one had entrees and no wait staff came to offer me a menu. Bad service! Then, I had to stop a waiter to ask for a menu and he told me this was the lounge only serving buffet(ugh, horrible choices) and drinks and the restaurant was on the level below. I proceed to the level below and 3 old ladies are waiting to be seated, restaurant is EMPTY! The decor was so shabby and the chairs dirty! The view is all this place can tout! Pros: The view of times square Cons: Everything else more

Cheesefest, but who cares? 3/10/2009

The food, service, decor here are suburbia at its worst, but it is nevertheless a great place to go when you just need to have a big view and feel elevated from the parade of ants below for a few hours - and of course, kids love it. If you can kick back and accept the slow service and learn to love the bowling alley carpet, it's heaven. Sort of. Pros: the view, the goofiness, the multitude of elevators Cons: the goofiness, the multitude of elevators more

airplane food & AC casino decoration 2/18/2009

airplane food. each dish tasted like it had been under a warming lamp for a few hours - tough, brown nugget of beef, rubbery shellfish, etc.. we didn't go with high expectations... we thought we'd be able to enjoy it as a tourist-y kitsch kind of thing - but the food managed to be a let down, even through a kitschy lens. also: the decoration reminds one of an atlantic city casino... one of the more depressing atlantic city casinos - like the showboat or something. more

great service, fantastic view 1/14/2009

you should really check this place out. i took a few friends to eat here and we loved it. the service was great. our waiters name was joe. he was attentive, friendly, and helpful. he recommended everything we ate and we loved the food and wine he picked out for us. the scallops were awesome. the foie gras melts in your mouth. \r go be a tourist for a day see the great view. you won't be disappointed! i'm taking a date next time! Pros: breath taking! more

Awful awful awful. Just downright awful. 12/8/2008

I am not a ""foodie"" but I do not mind paying for a good meal. That being said, I question the taste of any reviewers on here who claim that the food was decent or even good. I've had more satisfying meals from a street vendor...\r \r The view at the View is nice. Beyond that, I don't recommended it. Pay the cover for the lounge, but DO NOT eat dinner here. The food is awful. Our poultry was served rare and the side dishes are nonexistent unless you pay $9 extra for them. Our server was pleasant enough but sloppy. Served someone over me while spilling sauce from my plate all over my arm. He did not apologize -- or even seem to notice. Restaurant (not lobby) hostess was downright rude and acted as if we were intruding by asking for our reserved table. Then made us wait 15 min without explanation. I thought they could redeem themselves with dessert, but still everyone was making faces while eating it. \r \r With one (weak) cocktail, dinner will cost you $120 EACH. Please, go elsewhere with your money! \r \r Pros: A view (of stagnant office buildings, not the street) Cons: Terrible food, poor service, extremely expensive more

You get what you pay for 9/9/2008

While the cost of the meal is expensive, you definitely feel that it's worth it by the end of the night.\r Appetizer, entree, dessert... each course was wonderful\r The food is very well prepared and the comination of lfavors are well thought out and executed.\r And you're paying for the view as well as the food. The spinning of the restaurant is nice and slow, so don't think it will make you sick. \r Plus the Cosmo was nice and strong.\r I will definitely go there again.\r Pros: Fantastic food Cons: You have time your bathroom trip just right more

Must be seen view 5/28/2008

Great view of Times Square, high buildings. A good place to take your visitors. The menu is fix menu, one from the hot or cold appetizers and one from the entree. The appetizers are delicious and fresh. If you like seafood, order seafood entree rather than steak. Dessert plate is delicious; you will find your favorite among the various kinds of desserts, cheesecake, brownie, ice cream, frozen chocolate, all served in a nice plate. The service is great; waiters are very polite and paying attention. It may not be turned into your favorite place but you should go there at least once. more

Great Place 3/10/2008

just a great place to dine. I took my wife here and she absolutly loved it. the food was presented fantastic and tasted great. However the portions were a bit small and pricey. you looking at 250 bucks for two people. So its great for a really special occasion. The view is incredible and i recommed that you reserve a seat in time for sunset. Check out the surf and turf..oh yeah the waiter was very freindly. Pros: The View and dessert Cons: The Price and the Portions more

HORRIBLE PLACE/PEOPLE/SERVICE/FOOD 2/3/2008

I came here with my professors and classmates to have the buffet/champagne brunch. They charged us for our drinks which were HORRIBLE they REFUSED to take them back. We didn't drink them and refused to pay because for one, they were supposed to be included, secondly even if say they weren't , the waitress didn't tell us it would be extra, and please tell me, what resteraunt doesn't take back drinks if they are bad? I mean for gods sake APPLEBEES takes the drinks back. FOR $70 DOLLARS EACH FOR BAD FOOD THEY TREATED US WITH SO MUCH DISRESPECT. ALLTOGETHER THEY GOT $4500 DOLLARS FOR OUR BAD MEALS AND REFUSED TO TAKE 5 DRINKS BACK. THE WAITERS ARE MEAN AND ARROGANT AND GIVE THEMSELVES 20% TIPS AUTOMATICALLY. THE 5 DRINKS WE GOT CAME TO $67 DOLLARS! FOR CHEAP CHAMPAGNE AND GROCERY STORE CONCENTRATED ORANGE JUICE. NEVER GO HERE IT'S A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME. Pros: View of office buildings if you like that kind of thing Cons: horrible service, insane prices, horrible managers, ugly place bad colors carpet, tacky more

Nice Experience 11/30/2007

We enjoyed our visit to The View. It was nice to be in the room as it rotates so you can see the city. It moves so slow you don't even notice after awhile. I didn't know about the Prix Fixe of $69.95, but I could have checked out the website before hand. The food was good (I had steak, my husband and chicken) and the portions were small so you can actually finish everything including dessert. Our waiter was nice and treated us well. My only 3 gripes with this restaurant would be the mandatory coat check (or you will be charged $7.00 in the restaurant), they do not do substitutions (so if you don't like something that's to bad, but you can BUY something you do like for another $8.00) and the fact that we had 2 of their special drinks (which were good but not worth want they charge for them) and they cost about $20.00 a piece. When all was said and done our bill with tip was $231.00 for 2 people. Although we spent more than I think everything was worth the experience was nice. Just know the prices going in. Pros: The view, food was good Cons: Pricey, no substitutions, mandatory coat check with long line (however there was no charge) more

bad bad service and worse food 11/19/2007

We were waiting a very good restaurant however we were shocked because other than the view, there was nothing to dine there for. The food was bad(the portions were small and a medium steak came like a rock on a plate), the service was horrible. The waiter was very arrogant and he used me as being a non native english speaker and spoke very fastly and gave 25% tip to himself. I would not recommend this place if you have already been to top of the rock and empire state building. more

Mediocre at best 11/5/2007

We were seated promptly (we had reservations) but I did notice that the dress code was not enforced at all. One gentleman had a t-shirt with a profanity on the back. Wear what you will on the street, but if the dress code says ""no t-shirts"" then no t-shirts should be the rule.\r \r The food was mediocre and over priced. The duck was tough and the portions were tiny. I left hungry. To add insult to injury, the menu is prix-fixe which means that they bundle together the courses for a single price... unless of course you order certain items that are extra like the foie gras . We ordered the shrimp cocktail as our appetizer - 2 shrimps in a cocktail. The molten chocolate cake was mushy chocolate cake.\r Our 9 year old daughter was stuck buying either mac 'n cheese, chicken or a 5 course meal. Even when we complained to management about her not being able to order a separate shrimp cocktail, we were treated as if it was a privilege for us to eat there at all and that you can't just order an appetizer - ""its just the way we do things here.""\r \r The ""view"" was about 1/2 view and 1/2 office buildings. If you're even slightly affected by motion sickness, you may want to re-think this too. The turning of the restaurant does tend to add a queeziness factor.\r \r If you want to spend $100 per person on food, go to a restaurant that has $100 per plate food. This isn't it. If you want a view of the city, go to the top of the Empire State Building. Pros: The waiter tried very hard to make this a good experience for us Cons: The food, the value (cost / quality), the attitude more

Let the helicopter provide the view 10/26/2007

For two people, after ordering two side dishes and 1 glass of wine, it was $240. The steak was tasty and the duck dish was nothing to get excited about. The view at night was OK but I would submit it is first all about the food. Go to Carmine's Midtown (1 block away) and spend $50 and then take a helicopter ride for $118/person to get the view. The side dishes are extra but should be included for the price ($70/person per entree ) . In terms of the 'view' it depends on your experience, if you never been on a spinning restaurant then consider The View. Pros: The view Cons: Food taste is average for this price range more

Awesome View, Have a Cocktail Only 7/18/2007

I visited this place recently to have drinks with my boyfriend after a show. There was a line to be seated, but we got a window seat pretty quickly. The view is great and it can be romantic/special. Drink prices are outrageous (way overpriced); however you are in a very touristy restaurant and venue so beware. We didn't eat so I can't speak for the food, but I would not recommend eating here. There are better places to dine at.\r The View is spectacular. Pros: The View Cons: Overpriced Drinks more

Sunday Brunch 6/24/2007

The view is incredible! The food is very good. This is a must if you've never been here! We did not have reservation for Sunday brunch, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes. The staff is courteous and attentive. I'm looking forward to eating here again! Pros: the view, the food Cons: not for people who have issues with high places more

Good view of New York 1/29/2007

My wife, step-daughter and I live in Scotland and we were on holiday last week in New York. We visited this bar on a Monday night around 6.30pm for a few hours. The lounge was quite busy and top heavy with tourists.\r \r I only had drinks here. My wife and step-daughter had the dessert/cheese buffet which they claimed was borderline acceptable. The cocktails were weaker and sweeter than all of the others that we had during our trip to New York. \r \r The table service was good. However there was an automatic service charge added to our bill (we were only a party of three), which is always annoying. In my case it usually means that the service charge is lower than the tip I would normally have given if the service was OK.\r \r Quite obviously this is a tourist trap. However it is fairly novel with the revolving lounge that offers good views of New York. Pros: Good views of New York Cons: Poor food, average cocktails more
