Great selection, but the prices are pretty high. Go here in manhattan for sports gear if you can't wait, but otherwise just order online an save some money more

Try a specialist shop instead. 5/28/2012

Paragon has been justly praised as offering a great selection and is one of the biggest sporting stores in NYC. Unfortunately, in the past couple of years the service in particular has badly declined particularly if you're looking for friendly and knowledgeable help. If you have the time, try a specialist store. You'll get far better service. more

High Quality Jacket 7/17/2011

I bought an amazing cold weather jacket here, I must say that the down is so thick I look like the Michelen Man in it but who cares if the weather is that cold. It was crazy expensive but I think it is the best available and I could climb the Himalaya's in it and stay comfortable I am pretty sure. more

He did his job, laughed at my jokes 5/10/2011

""I was very happy with Paragon Sports. I love winter sports like downhill skiing and ice skating. I had plans to go ice skating last evening but didn't want to rent skates. When I lived abroad, I went ice skating a lot, so I know that it would be worth it just to buy my own pair of ice skates. Paragon and a maybe a couple of other stores are the only places in the area where you can go and buy a pair of skates. The other retailers have moved that to online only. That would be fine if we're talking about shoes, but you need to know that your skates fit well. I found a pair I wanted online and called them. They confirmed that they had that pair in my size. I tried them on and that was that: sold. Then I learned that you get free blade sharpening for the lifetime of the skates. It's limited to 3 skate sharpenings per year, but that's awesome because that's not cheap or free. If you look at it from either side, the $5 to 20 a pop to sharpen blades ($20 at CitiPond at Bryant Park, just so you know) or the rental fees required to rent ice skates and I already know buying a pair is worth it. (Of course, that means I have to use them, but I will.) The guy who helped me wasn't the most chipper but this is NYC and almost no one here is chipper. He did his job, laughed at my jokes and got me out of the store with what I needed. That's all good. It was my first time at the store and other employees were nice too. Granted, for most stuff, I'll probably order online just due to cost. The store isn't cheap, but when I need sports gear NOW? I know I'll start here from now on."" more

Huge Store 5/5/2011

This store is enormous. And when I say enormous, I mean enormous. You should come here even if you have no interest in buying something... just to see all the different kinds of sporting goods that exist, and the amazing way its all crammed into a Manhattan space. I ended up here on a quest for Tevas (water shoes). I had gone to 3 stores, at least (Macy's, Shoemania, DSW) before arriving here. No one had them but Paragon. more

Great Store 4/28/2011

This store is awesome... It has a lot of merchandise. From bikes, darts, basketball to hockey. This place has it all. They always have an end of season event where they have 1/2 the store filled with awesome deals. Winter gear, wide selection on shoes according to size. I go here to get some winter gear for cheap. more

You Guys Are Awesome 4/28/2011

One of the best stores in New York. In comparison to a store like Best Buy, it is in a class of its own. Last year, I asked the manager coordinating the traffic flow at the checkout line if he knew who the owner was. It was the owner whom I was speaking to. I related to him the fantastic service I had just received by one of his staff who actually accompanied me to different departments to find me a suitable set of knee pads. Paragon is a class act, and is nothing less than a New York ""institution."" more

Thanks Guys 4/27/2011

I didn't have any issues with selection, I went there looking for a pair of boxing gloves and they had a pretty large selection to choose from. Prices are fair, maybe $5 more expensive than some of the larger retailers out in the suburbs, but that's a premium I was willing to pay. Customer service was also good, a really old guy was in charge of my section but he was quick to get stuff out of the back for me! I also explored their running section and they have a huge amount of apparel and socks. I think this is a great spot for your sporting needs unless you need something super specialized. more

Quality Store. 4/26/2011

I have been shopping at Paragon sports for over 15 yrs and have always been amazed by their selection and quality of products, but until today had not experienced their amazing customer service! After a truly agonizing ordeal trying to get a jacket repaired through the manufacturer - Sales Manager - Dan Fowler, went above and beyond the call of duty! Paragon is better than any chain in every way possible! Don't walk - run for all of your sporting goods needs! more

One-Stop-Shop 4/20/2011

Paragon is the most complete sporting goods store in the City. For those of you transplants who are used to the mega-sporting goods stores in the 'Burbs - the one-stop-shop kind of store - this is the closet thing you will find in any of the boroughs. While the staff can be spotty at best, if you actually need to put your hands on a piece of gear or try something on rather than buying off the web, this is your spot. Everything from skate boarding to running, hiking, mountain climbing, swimming, tennis, camping - you name it, this store has it all. more

Its late in the season... but.... 4/19/2011

Its late in the season to get ski stuff but at least most of them were on sale! I stood at the goggles section but there was no salesman there to help me figure out which ones would fit my face. Finally, a guy came and I told him that I needed something for women. I tried on a few pairs and he helped me pick out a pair of Oakleys that were for women and that had an asian fit (asian fit has more cushioning around the nose area... the others left too much gap between my nose and the goggles). I also found ski pants and the salesman was able to look at me and tell my exact size, I was impressed. He also knew that I needed the length to be short instead of the regular length and was able to show me where it was. It was so sad that the discounted pants only included regular length. They were about $180 but after the 30% discount, my normal priced $140 pants cost more! Oh well. Overall, this is not the cheapest place to buy stuff in Manhattan but you get what you need at one stop. If you are really busy, and don't do too much online shopping (I don't like to buy clothes online cuz you can't try them on), then go here. more

You can tell everybody!!! 4/18/2011

Now that the warm weather is upon and the great outdoors are open for all of us to enjoy. The only problem with so much freedom is knowing my limits. I can run or bike until my feet can not take it anymore. So I did the best thing to solve this problem! I walked to Paragon Sports to pickup a Sunnto Vector heart rate watch. I was not sure of what watch to buy, what the best brand of watch was or what features these new watches provide. The only things I knew were I had a price budget, I had to set a pace to my running/biking and watch my heart rate. Also since I like running and biking upstate NY, I needed a compass to get me back to the Hudson River to catch a train if necessary to get back to the city. I probably spent anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour fifteen going over the best watch that would fit my needs. I probably drove the counter person a bit nuts with the amount of questions I was asking. I was simply amazed at the amount one person could know about all those watches. When all said and done I found the Suunto Vector HR Watch the most effective for my needs. The Suunto has a heart rate monitor, a countdown timer/split time memory and a compass to get me back to the city. The amount of other features this watch offers is amazing and at a great price. I would just like to thank Paragon Sports and the person who stayed with me to help pick out this fabulous watch that will help me get back to my apartment before the sunsets. more

Always Come Back Here 4/8/2011

Will always come back here for the service (snowboard dept) - sure, their prices aren't the lowest, but if you can find a reputable dealer out there selling the same items, they'll beat it by 15%. I managed to get a ridiculous deal on my Burton board, boots and binding last year thanks to that guarantee. Also, their boarding staff is extremely knowledgeable and down to earth - I knew they were really into snowboarding, but didn't realize that Paragon actually makes them take courses to learn more about their trade. Lastly, an interesting tidbit for the snow folks - they have a boot fit guarantee. I thought my boots from last year were too tight, and I was trying to buy a new pair, but the sales rep convinced me that it would be better to heat mold the older boot to fit rather than blow money on a new pair...how often does that happen? more

no other sporting goods store like Paragon anywhere. 4/6/2011

I've been shopping here for years and this place is consistently excellent when it comes to selection and knowledgeable staff. There really is no other sporting goods store like Paragon anywhere. From the time I picked up a Rangers jersey to root them onto the Cup in '94, to today when I picked up a new tennis racket from an incredibly friendly and up to speed salesman, the place is just top notch. Not the cheapest, although they will match prices, but the surprisingly headache free shopping is worth every penny. more

He is a KEEPER <3 4/5/2011

Went there on Saturday 10.30.2010, for a pair of running shoes... Omar A helped me. He was a complete rockstar. He started by welcoming to the store with in a few feet then asked how could he help me then he walked me to some treadmill to analysis or fig out overpronate (I do REAL BAD..). Then helped me realize why I have pain in certain areas and explain how arch support is not need it because bridges are supported by the front n back... Then taught me all sorts of neat tricks (like the ankle lock on most sneakers). Showed me some stretches with a foam roller.. I should probably add that my last trip there was horrible: I couldn't get anyone to help me and the girl that help me told me something like Kayano's are like a nimbus but better.. Omar apologize for her which he didn't have to he told me next time to speak or ask to a running specialist they are ID but the running wall.. if you're lucky enough to get Omar's help, you'll have an amazing experience, he is more concern about your needs than the sale.. Paragon He is a KEEPER.. He even gave me a little card for there running group.. more

!!! Great Establishment !!! 4/4/2011

What a steal? The selection is amazing. I stopped by Union Square on my way back to Boston this past weekend and went into Paragon Sports for some winter deals. I needed a deck for Spring Boarding in Vail. I'm headed out there in two weeks and expecting some great weather. I'm a Burton fanatic and I found myself a brand new deck for $350. The sales were amazing and I would definitely recommend hitting this place up for great deals! more

THANK YOU AGAIN to Natalie and Kiva! 4/1/2011

Many many thanks to Natalie O. and Kiva!!! I had purchased a Nike running jacket 2+ months ago online from Paragon. I loved this jacket for all of its bells and whistles, and being a GREAT water/windproof option for cold/wet weather in NYC. Unfortunately, the toggles on the inside part of the jacket rubbed up against and destroyed my running tights and shirt, neither of which I had bought at Paragon. I asked Natalie (a store manager, I believe) what options I had, and she was IMMENSELY helpful! I had the option of either replacing the jacket or getting a store credit towards another jacket...or even having them send it back to Nike for me. Kiva (in the women's running apparel department) helped me find another running jacket (made by Gore), running tights to replace the destroyed ones (even though I hadn't bought those at Paragon), as well as a shirt to replace to destroyed one. They didn't have the exact shirt, so they gave me 20% off another shirt (similar to the one that was ruined). Not only was Natalie so helpful with logistics (I didn't have the receipt, and she found my purchase in the computer anyway, with my credit card number) but Kiva was also very helpful with finding many options with which I would be happy, and sizes that worked for me. THANK YOU AGAIN to Natalie and Kiva! more

Paragon 3/29/2011

Paragon is in pretty ideal location and if you need something sportsy, you will have no problem finding it here. However, since it really does supply stuff for a large variety of sports, that stuff isn't always a huge selection. I generally go upstairs to the camping section. I can find what I need, but it might not be what I want. For example, their camping food selection is horrendous, as is their selection of like, 8 sleeping bags. I mean, yeah, if I'm desperate I have options, but they're not always the best options. On a happy note though, they do have a lot of clothes, which is cool, and they carry some really good outdoor brands. Sometimes, they're even on sale. more

Something about one stop sports stores that makes me happy. 3/25/2011

Something about one stop sports stores that makes me happy. The customer service here is A+. Everyone is helpful and friendly. The tall blond bearded man that works in the snowboarding department is in love with me. He always flirts with me,asks me to go to parties in Williamsburg and I can never remember his name. Haha The prices are fairly reasonable. I tried to order a Zuca bag for my best friend, but they were sold out of the color I needed. A manager in that dept was nice enough to look it up in the computer, and informed me that he could order it for me. I've also bought a couple pairs of gym shoes here. I believe they price match? more
