This sports superstore offers a broad selection.

Paragon has been justly praised as offering a great selection and is one of the biggest sporting stores in NYC. Unfortunately, in the past couple of years the service in particul...

Thank You !!!! 3/25/2011

Many many thanks to Natalie O. and Kiva!!! I had purchased a Nike running jacket 2+ months ago online from Paragon. I loved this jacket for all of its bells and whistles, and being a GREAT water/windproof option for cold/wet weather in NYC. Unfortunately, the toggles on the inside part of the jacket rubbed up against and destroyed my running tights and shirt, neither of which I had bought at Paragon. I asked Natalie (a store manager, I believe) what options I had, and she was IMMENSELY helpful! I had the option of either replacing the jacket or getting a store credit towards another jacket...or even having them send it back to Nike for me. Kiva (in the women's running apparel department) helped me find another running jacket (made by Gore), running tights to replace the destroyed ones (even though I hadn't bought those at Paragon), as well as a shirt to replace to destroyed one. They didn't have the exact shirt, so they gave me 20% off another shirt (similar to the one that was ruined). Not only was Natalie so helpful with logistics (I didn't have the receipt, and she found my purchase in the computer anyway, with my credit card number) but Kiva was also very helpful with finding many options with which I would be happy, and sizes that worked for me. THANK YOU AGAIN to Natalie and Kiva! more

This place is the real deal. 3/22/2011

When I moved to NYC, I figured I would have to schlep out to NJ to find a place to get real outdoors gear, get my snowboard tuned, etc. and that bummed me out, man... Enter Paragon Sports. This place is the real deal. They have a great snowboard / ski shop for whatever you need from tune-ups to getting fitted for ski boots / purchasing a snowboard-bindings-boots package. They also have tons of ski and snowboard apparel as well. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. I am an avid snowboarder, so I never really ventured beyond the first floor (ski/snowboard shop) until recently. Whoa. Paragon is like an REI sliced into 4 pieces and stacked up. This place has 4 floors of everything from running shoes to tennis racquets to ice-climbing crampons to bicycles to MMA fighting stuff. The selection is simply staggering. They even have branded mini-shops, kinda like Macy's for brands like Arcteryx, Marmot, and Patagonia. If you are in need of a North Face fleece or some serious mountain climbing gear, Paragon is the place for you. more

Amazing Store 3/22/2011

Even if you didn't buy your skates from Paragon, this is still one of the best-value places to get them sharpened in NYC. I brought my own Riedells here for a sharpening, and for $13 after tax, they did an excellent job. Bryant Park and Central Park both charge $20 per sharpening, and have more limited hours. Paragon is open 10 AM - 8 PM (except Sundays 11 - 7). more

I dont know about other people, 3/16/2011

Seriously, the nicest staff i have ever encountered in a retail store. really knowledgeable, they walk you through the store and make sure you get everything you need for whatever trip/excursion your doing. Huge selection of stuff too (i had some really specific things i needed and they had it and then some) more

This Is A Great Place 3/15/2011

A NYC institution. it's the best place for sports gear in the city, period. I have bought stuff here for skiing, rollerblading, hockey, swimming, backpacking, camping, hiking, weight training, squash, running, and the list goes on. The prices are fair *and* they price match online retailers, which is amazing. If you display the online retailer's page on your phone, one of the managers will usually print it out for you so you can get the price match. The one downside is that with the scale of this place, it can get disorganized and there can be longish waits to get help. Otherwise, I'm a huge fan. more

Amazing 3/4/2011

I have come to Paragon for everything from rain boots to buying a bike. They have a wide selection of just about everything and the staff is always very helpful. It's not the cheapest place but the prices aren't bad, and the quality, variety, and costumer service are great. more

Rude Staff/Managers 2/2/2011

This store has NO care for customer service. I paid for overnight shipping and am no going to get my item 4 days later. They are not willing to take any blame and only point the finger at UPS. They won't compensate me one penny for the delay! THey are just rude and basically the manager Sharron hung up the phone on me. What store doesn't take care of their customers? I will never shop here again more

Keep an eye on your order 12/16/2010

They have apparently cancelled my order without notifying me. Changed my credit card, (suposedly going to refund, after I asked). No idea about shipping speed since they confirmed receipt of order but didn't ship. Not at all proactive in resolving a problem. Will now miss Christmas delivery. Generall a busy and tricky website for ordering, certainly not the easiest or most intuitive, and there may be things you've overlooked. Looks like a good selection and good prices, but found better at ""Dicks"" so won't be back not recommended more

my favorite store in town - Ted is great! 10/3/2010

My favorite store in town ? variety of excellent sports equipment for competitive prices. They do price matching too but their prices are already matched to the lowest I saw on the internet. What?s more important is that the staff is knowledgeable, professional, and helpful to buy stuff based on your needs. I just bought there a snowboard with the rest of the equipment, boots, bindings, some accessories. I?ve snowboarded for several seasons but I?ve always rented and now decided to shed out some money on my own gear. I can?t thank enough a guy named Ted who works in the store. Although before I came to the store, I did some homework, Ted still spent significant amount of time with me choosing the right snowboard, bindings, boots, even goggles and then putting this all up together for me. He also warmed up the boots for me to wear them for a little while in the store so that they would break faster and fit me better. Although I didn?t deal much with the rest of the staff in the department, they seemed as knowledgeable and courteous as Ted was. Thanks again Ted. I can?t wait for the snowboarding season to begin. more

Sports gear giant 2/14/2010

I can remember multiple times checking for items online, then finding out their stock is different in the store. Sometimes I've found they had things when I didn't think they did, and vice versa. Now I just don't bother checking online and just visit the store. Pros: Big selection of the newest gear Cons: Website isn't accurate of inventory, sometimes pricey more

Good Selection of Clothing - Awful Staff 8/20/2009

Moved to NYC from Conn. Was excited to see such a big, established outdoor supply store. Went to buy some crampons. None of the staff seemed to know what i was talking about. Two staff directed me to the wrong place in the store. Put it down to a bad day, but each time I have gone for other things I get the same crappy service. Try EMS or Tents and Trails - MUCH better. Pros: Great range of outdoor clothing Cons: Staff are unhelpful, unknowledgable more

great selection, not great service 7/27/2009

This probably the most frustrating store that I know of, just cause they always have what I want, but in order to get it, the struggle makes it barely worth it. The sales staff can be inconsiderate, and will either completely ignore you or be super aggressive depending on whether or not their department uses commissions. Still, if you need some really good sporting equipment in new york city, then I'm sorry to say it, but you'll end up in Paragon. It's got everything you'll every need, if you can make it through the shopping experience. Pros: they've got everything you'll ever need Cons: High prices, Horrible staff more

The WORST experience..BEWARE.... 6/29/2009

Cons: Customer Service more

jenn coccarelli is paragon's worst 5/13/2009

If you've ever had dealings with this manager its easy to see paragon is pulling from the bottom of the employee pool . Asked to speak to a manager and this is what I got.She has got to be the most phony people ever. Maybe Paragon will wake up and get some better managers. Cons: manager must be on something more

Ruined my boyfriend's birthday 2/8/2009

I created this citysearch account solely to warn people about this horrible place. I ordered a watch from them on a Thursday and put down a deposit. 3 different staff members swore that I would have the watch before Feb 4th (my boyfriend's birthday which was about two weeks later.) The Monday following that a woman called from their shipping department demanding more money from me because it was a special order. She would not tell me her name. I immediately went to the store and Brian swore to me that the watch would be in within the next week and a 1/2 at which point i reiterated that if it did not arrive by the 4th i did not want it. Noone would take my complaint regarding the crazy screaming woman from the shipping department. February 4th rolls around and I call to see if the watch had arrived and I was told ""someone from shipping would hopefully call me back the NEXT day."" Noone would answer my questions, make eye contact at the store, or tell me IF the watch would ever arrive. I had to cancel the order and find another gift. Cons: staff more

Jen is the worst manager ever !! 1/29/2009

We were in Paragon sports ,We had some ski questions, some of the sales staff were on point but one guy didn't know much and when we talked to the manager Jen oh my god she was short with us and seemed out of it. We just wanted to buy some ski's after a half hour we ran out of there.Paragon has good stuff but that manager sucked. Pros: good stuff Cons: bad manager more

Marlon You rock 1/13/2009

Ive never been skiing before so I didnt know where to start When I got i there I thought I was @ times square during rush hour so I ask this guy name marlon if he could help me Let me tell you When I go shopping I never ask guys for help Unless there the only person there because there divas and they tend to be rude He had like 4 people asking him for different jackets and pants and was nice to everyone I was amazed because any where else they just say there out so he comes back to check on me I went for the prada because they had a sale 40percent off and I wanted to go in style he gave me so much product information I asked him how long hes been doing this she says just since sept but hes and fashion designer and knew quality fabric so he picks out about 5 pairs of pants to try on I didnt know what to look for or how they should fit so i ask the lady who appointed me the room she cut me off before i could finish and said im not a salesperson you have to ask them very rude I wantedto tell her im not a flood but your pants or flooding and red hair died in the 80's so this really old lady comes and say try the other ones on so i do and there to short and i couldnt close them and sh says there perfect i know she was just trying to make a sale then he comes to check on me saved i thought he recommenced me a pair of north face tight fitting pants they fit great and were cheaper then the older lady comes back over and says how did everything fit i say marlon found me these north face pants she smiles like people do when the swear to you in there head and puts something back in her little purse under her blazer later i find out that was stickers to show who helped you after about 2 hours i had the perfect outfit i went to the from to tell some one what a great job he did I asked him he he was the manager he says yes and roll his eyes after i told him how great marlon was he roll his eyes again and say he have a lot of good sales people more

A sales staff of rude and unknowledgeable individuals who can care less if you find what you need or not. 1/3/2009

Worst Shopping experience. Too bad there are no other good ski shops in the city!!! The service is horrible, I was sent upstairs then downstairs then upstairs again all to find out that I could have found all my items on one floor. The service is short, unknowledgeable and rude. I can go on and on but I will leave only one word of advice...If you can...Avoid Paragon!!! Pros: Have a variety of sporting goods Cons: Crowded. Unhelpful Sales staff. more

Terrible Service 7/16/2008

I have been trying to buy a pair of sunglasses from Paragon for the last 10 days and I have been given the complete runaround. They may have extensive stock but that's where the pros of shopping here end. I have been told a different story by almost everyone I have spoken to. I have been given misinformation from ""the glasses are on order"" ; "" they came in the other day and have all sold out"" ; ""they are no longer making them"" to ""we have them upstairs in the stock room, they just need to be unpacked"". Come on guys - get your act together. There is no excuse for such poor and oftentimes rude customer service. I wouldn't mind being told they are not available but just give me the correct information. I will not be shopping here again, even if they are the only store stocking what I need. Jack Rabbit and SBR Multisports are much more friendly and helpful. Pros: Good selection of stock Cons: Really awful customer service more

Bad Service and expensive prices! 7/15/2008

The below reviews sum it up with rude, ignorant staff! Moving to NY from CA where sporting good stores are everywhere I am used to sales staff that take pride and are knowledgable in the dept they work. Too bad there are not more choices in NY. But until someone opens a decent sporting good store where you can get staff that is more than about being cool, ignoring customers and talking to each other I will buy online or in CA when I am visiting! Cons: Expensive, rude staff that lack knowledge on dept working more
