some items are poor quality 2/27/2009

Cherry cordials are NOT chocolate covered cherries, they are hard chocolate with granulated sugar in the center which has been flavored with cherry syrup. Dried papaya has so much dye and preservative it tastes funky. Caramels tasted old and dried out. more

I Love Candy! 4/14/2006

This one’s a little off the beaten path for tourists, however, it’s worth it. They offer so many different types of candy and a HUGE sugar free selection. I loved seeing many of the candy’s of yesterday. The store is a little small and somewhat cramped but well worth the trip! more

Stock Up on Candy Here 3/28/2006

The name does describe the store. You won’t find a place in New York City that has better prices on candy. How cheap? Here’s a good example. Jelly Belly jellybeans are $9.99-$8.99 elsewhere. Economy candy sells them for $5.99 per pound. Not only is the candy cheap, they also have a large variety. Some of the harder to find candies that were popular decades ago, like candy cigarettes, are still sold there. They also sell dried fruits and nuts. The store itself is neat, but cramped and is usually crowded, but it’s worth putting up with it for the candy. more

Have Candy Will Travel 3/27/2006

Economy Candy is one of the best places to get your fill of Candy. The sell everything a whole bunch of candy. They sell tons of chocolate, gift baskets, Kosher eateries, designer candy, nuts and dried fruits. The place is packed full of sweets. Great place for any candy lover or anyone packing a sweet tooth. The best part is since everything is sold in bulk the candy is cheap. more

HOME SWEET HOME MEMORIES 2/6/2006

I think it is a wonderful place. I love the sales girls very friendly and they make you feel at home. When placing an order on the web or by phone, customer service is great especially Melissa and Yadi. The neighborhood has stepped up a lot throughout the years and it is a wonderful experience to walk and spend the afternoon. It is amazing how much the neighborhood changed but it is good that somethings remain unchanged like Economy Candy. The prices are good and like I said the girls are great. Just don't get on the bosses bad side, stick with the girls. more

great way to get fat for $1 11/28/2005

this place is pretty awsome. its in a grimy neighborhood so you might not be pushing your kid around in your bugaboo but its worth the trip to the lower east side. they have really great candies and the prices are unlike anything you'll find in the city. really exotic candies and chocolates you wont find elswwhere. a must stop for the sweet tooth... more

Dieters beware! Possibly the most dangerous store in the world! 11/28/2005

I go in for dried fruit and come out with a big bag of candy. Even if I could resist the sweets, I couldn't resist the nostalgia. Every kind of candy that you remember from your childhood is here. The candy pills on paper, chewy red coins, pastel coated licorice, weird violet lozenges, big thin slices of striped taffy that looks like it was run over by a truck, those Passover "fruit slices" (available here year 'round), little wax bottles filled with sweet mystery liquid, dark chocolate covered graham crackers, etc. Then, get hooked on wonderful imported candy that you've never seen before. Halvah is about as healthy as you'll find here. But it sure is fun to forget about calories for awhile... more

sugar overload 9/26/2005

Since I live outside the city, I have to make a pilgrimage to Economy Candy every so often to fulfill my sugar fix but it's well worth the trip. I have a thing for Ritters candy bars and they stock all the flavors. Plus a great selection of English chocolates. The bulk nuts are premium quality. Once you start ordering at the bulk counter, it is really hard to stop. I usually tear into my goodies right on the pavement outside. Soft fruit slices, wasabi coated nuts, chocolates. It's the yummiest and cheapest way to get your fix. The great thing about Economy Candy is your new favorite candy is waiting there for you to discover it. more

Sweet tooth heaven... 8/20/2005

Every candy ever made at a discount price, well not quite every candy but it seems like it and it is overwhelming. I've gone in this store when my sweet tooth took over control of my brain and walked out empty handed because I just couldn't decide what to get. If you can't eat candy for some reason they also have a large assortment of nuts but be prepared for the smell of sugar and chocolate in the air. Their website: http://economycandy.com/ more

Economy Candy 8/17/2005

Just when you thought you had put all your childish urges behind you, you run into a candy store that makes Dylands look like amateurs. They have everything a sweet tooth junky could want and then some. we're talking Red Hots, Boston Bake Beans, Necco Wafers, and my personal favorite - Pixie sticks. You'll even find some Cadbury chocolates. And if your sophisticated palate would never eat a chunky bar, they also carry Neuhaus and Lindt. So head on down to the LES and reclaim your childhood. more

By "economy" they mean cheap 8/17/2005

Packed into a small store front is Economy Candy. Inside, there isn't a whole lot of room to move around because of all the shelves filled with chocolate and other candy. They sell packaged candy, chocolate bars (foreign and domestic), bulk candy, and other sweets. Don't talk a small child in here or you won't get out without a bag full of sugar. more

Sweet Sweet Success 8/15/2005

Another successful candy shop located in the Lower East Side. Best known for its variety of chocolate, candies, and nuts. It's like a chocolate factory in here. The store even sells European Chocolate Bars and hand dipped chocolate! I paid about $1.50 which is a bargain to get a taste of Europe. For those with the not so sweet tooth they even makes sugar free items. In addition they even sell old time favorites button dots, pez, and gummies. They even sell Harry Potter Jelly Beans! more

The best candy store in NYC! 8/14/2005

I've seen the antique gum ball machine for sale on their store as well, and curiously enough i asked them and they said they are the same gum ball machine they used on their store over 30 years ago. One of them actually have a 1 penny slot.. i mean i was impressed, now talking about candy.. boy oh boy! its like they are the Wonka! of candy land... they even had the same candy bar i saw on the willie wonka and the chocolate factory.. and next to it says "Find the golden ticket!" .. it was a great gift for my little sister, she loved it... living around here doesn't get better than this :) I am loving it... give the store a visit and you'll know wot i am talking about. more

Full of Candy 8/10/2005

This has got to be my favorite store and it wil be yours too if you have a love for candy's and chocolate. They have almost everything inside this store. And you can buy everything by the pounds full!! They also sell Dried Fruits, Nuts and many gift baskets. Remember that favorite candy you loved eating as a kid and you can find no more? Well if they still make it, Economy Candy will probably have it. If you can't get to the store, you can find them on the web at economycandy.com.. more

Candy Store of Yore 7/24/2005

I first found this candy store when my dad was having trouble finding a certain kind of nut that his dad used to eat. We were wandering the Lower East Side and my dad asked someone if they knew where he could find it - the immediate response: Economy Candy. Economy Candy gives the impression of an old time, packed to the brim candy store, overflowing with candy - from marzipan, to old time candy buttons, to all day lollipops, to jelly creations that boggle the mind - nuts, by-the-pound and prepackaged chocolates, and even gourmet oils. In keeping with the times, they also offer a huge variety of sugar-free candies for the diabetics and Atkins dieters in your life. You can order from the store on-line (or just see what you're into before you visit) at economycandy.com, but I highly suggest you stop in and experience the sugar madness for yourself. more
