The food seems like it would be good quality, but I simply can't get over the prices that they charge for it. It's outrageous. My friend ordered a salad and then put a metal weigh...

One of New York's original gourmet stores 5/17/2006

I have been going to Dean & Deluca since it was housed in its previous location in Soho. This is a magical gourmet store that also caries a wonderful selection of cooking tool and one of the best spice selections in the city. Their gourmet chocolate selection is also excellent as are their cheeses and baked goods (best ginger cookies in the city). I find their prepared foods a bit underwhelming, but you have to at least stop in to this place. Good place to find gifts for kitchen hobbiests, too. more

cheese 4/4/2006

Dean and Deluca is one of my favorite places to buy fresh cookies, sandwiches, and CHEESE! I love everything about this place from their wonderful packaging to their super-nice service to their shiny floors. They really do stand for freshness; you can just feel it when you take your first bite of that chewy soft white chocolate cookie- yum! more

Dean & Deluca 4/2/2006

As everyone else has already noted, this place is expensive! I love walking into it and feeling like I actually have the money to spend on gourmet food that is overpriced *even* for gourmet food, but alas, I don't (and hence try not to walk around too much so as not to be disappointed). If you've already been out shopping for a bit in the area though, and have worked up a very, very tiny appetite (that you don't necessarily want to satisfy w/ the nut vendors outside), I suggest going in and giving the samples a try. On a normal day you can get at least a couple different samples of bread and cheese, and on very good days they might even have some deserts out for you to try. (If you're really greedy - ask the guy at the deli to give you a sample of soup as if you were going to purchase it. Then make a face as if you didn't like it and leave...) more

Legendary & Expensive 1/14/2006

If money is no object, Dean & Deluca is a market one can shop the day away at. However, for those of us with a budget to watch or an inability to spend close to $50 on a few simple ingredients, Dean & Deluca is a store for window shopping of the food kind. Still, minor splurges can be made here. The Busy Bee cake is delicious and reasonably priced and my friend raves about their coffee (I believe I'm one of the few inhabitants of NYC who's never even had a sip of coffee). Also, I've paged through Dean & Deluca's cookbook and it seems to be chock full of great recipes so if you're in the mood to try some new meals in the kitchen I'd suggest picking it up. more

Botique foods at boutique prices 12/26/2005

Yet another speacialty store that represents the best money can buy at the most expensive prices one can charge. HAve a craving for a fruit out of season, this is the place. Want to get that imported caviar fro the party so you can say I got the imported caviar for that party--this is the place for you. That said it is a pleasant olfactory experience in a delightful store. However, be aware that the bill does come due and it will nto be cheap!! more

Expensive beyond belief 9/23/2005

The food seems like it would be good quality, but I simply can't get over the prices that they charge for it. It's outrageous. My friend ordered a salad and then put a metal weight in it to charge her more. What kind of place actually does that? Stay away. If price is not a concern, well then use Fresh Direct or you could try this place out - it seems like their food is really fresh, but I can't imagine that it is worth it. more

Soho staples 8/19/2005

Before Gourmet Garage, before Whole Foods discovered New York, (and also before D&D had a coffee joint featured prominently in nearly every shot you ever see of the Rockefeller Center storefront set of the Today show) there was Dean and Deluca, the original Soho food mecca. Okay, the original was on Prince street, but the current incarnation has the same roots. And nuts and seeds and veggies. But I digress. D&D is expensive and pretentious and crowded as all get out especially on the weekends when you need to shop since who can get there during the week? But if you're all about ambiance when you shop, if you're willing to pay a premium because your produce is beautifully displayed or if you just want to see how the other half shops, visit Dean and Deluca. More like a gallery than a grocery, this is still where le tout Soho goes to see and be seen shopping. more

delicous 8/3/2005

This place on the corner of prince and Broadway is great! They have everything from baked goods to fresh fruits and vegetables to cheese, even flowers! They even have prepared foods(like sandwiches and rolls) for lunch.Everything is fresh , high quality and delicious. They do tend to be a bit pricy though. more

Gourmet Grocerys 7/7/2005

These guys have everything that is of high caliber. Okay maybe that's an exagerration but this place is impressive. Known to a generation of TV viewers as the place Felicity worked these guys have aisles full of great eats. First class baked goods, chocolate, fruits and vegetables. Excellent service. A tremendous asset to its Soho neighborhood. more
