terrible terrible customer service and terrible sales associates. never get custom again. samona chaise lounger hell. i had what i thought was an okay experience selecting the lounger with my husband and friend/designer, selected a custom fabric with one of your sales associates when i was presented the wrong side of the swatch trying to match it to the sectional i bought from c&b last year. chaise arrives, i notice it was in fact the 'other side of the fabric', i was assured on the phone that if i took pictures, sent an email, someone would help me work through this. after 1.5 weeks of trying to get a hold of a s.a. with an answer, after having s.a. after s.a. tell me what they 'thought' was the problem, i was contacted by s.a who said 'i mean, there were 3 of you when you ordered.' (yup, we all recalled the 'other side') i asked her if you provided reupholstery. 'no'. no other help, just silence. i told her i would have to sell it on my own. she didn't care that i just had the worst expensive experience of my life nor that i will never shop at your store again. more

shopping for the new apt 6/22/2009

I just moved in my apt and had to pick up some dishes and silverware. C & B had it all right there for me and was not to expensive. Everthing I got was very nice and perfect for me. I would def. suggest this to anyone who is looking for that kitchen house supplies. Pros: great quality more

Furniture piece had to be re-delivered 3 times 11/6/2008

We always loved Crate and Barrel and enjoyed visiting their store in Manhattan and were happy with most of the small purchases we made. That was until we decided to go for a large scale item that required delivery. We ordered the Cabria Buffet and matching Hutch Top. Both items were delivered in seperate boxes obviously. The hutch top was fine, even though there was a small defect on the corner of one of the bottom rails. The Buffet however was a different story. It was is such bad shape that we think it was just dropped off a truck somewhere. The back panel of the piece was detached from the top. The back of the top piece was severely broken in several places. All the joints on the front bottom of the piece was separated. We called and complained and they scheduled to have the broken piece picked up and the replacement delivered a week later. When re received the second delivery of the same piece we unpacked it to discover that it was also badly damaged AGAIN! Major broken pieces on the back of the unit, broken splintered sides. So we called them again and they have scheduled to have to delivered again for the 3rd time. I am expecting this 3rd delivery to be more of the same, and if it is I will be returning the complete unit which cost almost $1300. Please remember that it took 2 weeks to receive the first unit and another week in between each of the other orders. I am so disgusted with this company, and find myself still hoping for a miracle because there furniture is so beautiful. I would not recommend buying any big furniture items that requires delivery. Pros: Beautiful furnitre pieces which are nice to look at in the store Cons: Horrible hirrible horrible customer servie and delivery. more

Assembly is very expensive. Delivery is very expensive. The experience added almost $200 to the cost of the furniture. 1 Media Stand. From what I viewed in-store the quality looked OK. But remember C&B assembled the product themselves and then displayed in the best possible light. I am not sure I will buy furniture from them again. Cons: Furniture not assembled. Very costly to hire someone to assemble. Delivery cost far to much, even in the local area of the store. more

Too busy for customers. 6/8/2007

It seemed that the staff was more concerned with stocking shelves with new inventory. Fine, it has to be done...but no one wanted to help me ring in my inteneded purchases. I walked out after fifteen minutes of waiting for someone who wouldring me in...three people told me, ""someone will be right with you"". Nope....No one helped me. See Ya. Pros: beautiful store Cons: poor customer service more

Beware ""Assembly-Required"" Furniture 4/2/2007

We had mixed results w/ the furniture on our registry. All three pieces we chose ""Required Assembly"" to varying degrees and that is where the problems arose. The first piece, a dining room table, came in an enormous and very heavy box that barely squeaked into our apartment and would probably be a no-go for many NYC aptmts. Unfortunately, upon opening, it was damaged in transit, requiring phone calls to Crate n Barrel and rescheduling the takeaway and separate re-delivery. The second piece we ordered, a medium sized cabinet/wall unit, we discovered a defective piece halfway thru assembling it and had to call Crate n Barrel, coordinate delivery and take-away, and leave the unfinished piece in our 1-bdrm aptmt. Yet they sent the wrong replacement piece, requiring us to go thru the whole replacement process again. The final piece, a large china cabinet, was the most troublesome. Once again there were defective pieces, so they sent us a whole new one and told us to pick and choose. Yet the whole second shipment had small problems w/ lots of defective pieces and we ultimately decided to send it all back and find a new one elsewhere after spending several hours partially assembling it. The net-net of it is, we are happy w/ our table, we're content w/ our small cabinet which is not completely aligned but functional, and we gave up on the last piece after all the agita the 3 pieces combined caused us. Yet the whole process was very, very time-consuming despite, requiring alot of phone time and leaving work early several times for deliveries/re-deliveries. We did receive excellent customer service, but would never, ever purchase ""assembly-required"" furniture from Crate n Barrel. more

I am so in love with this store. I work nearby, so I go inside to check out all the new merchandise at least once a week. I went upstairs to the furniture department and wanted to live inside the store. Whoever does the displays should be praised...the place looks amazing. more

Great customer svc, always out of stock 9/11/2002

This store seems to be out of stock on practically every gift registery item I've ever gone in to buy, but the fantastic customer service usually makes up for it. Someone is always game to go look in the back to search for whatever gift item I'm trying to hunt down and even though they usually have no luck, they been good about letting me know which other locations nearby *probably* still have it in stock. If you're not looking for a specific item, the selection here is amazing and the prices very reasonable. Only drawbacks about the chain are that gift certificates can not be used online and that they can't send stuff between stores. Otherwise, this store is a great housewares source (they usually have very typical stuff, though, nothing too funky/eclectic). Pros: customer service, wide selection, reasonable prices Cons: out of stock more
