I used to stop by the individual counters at Saks to get my skin care products, but then my good friend recommended The Bathroom. This store is absolutely darling and the staff was so helpful in recommending the right products for my dry skin. I was impressed by how knowledgeable the manager was. It was a little pricey, but I am willing to splurge to keep me looking fresh and glowy. I think this might be the perfect place to pick out Christmas gifts for my friends this year!
Pros: products are amazing, staff is helpful
Cons: a little pricey

I just wanted to take a moment to sing the praises of the staff at Capitol Fishing. As a wardrobe stylist I often take on jobs that are a bit out of my normal realm of knowledge. When approached by the Discovery Channel to style the ads for their show Deadliest Catch I knew I would have to familiarize myself with the wonderful world of the crab fisher!
When I contacted Capitol Fishing in Manhattan the lovely Phil put my mind at ease and taught me all I would ever need to know! From Grunden's to Bouys, Phil made sure I had all I needed and then some, even going as far as allowing me to borrow his own personal fishing items!
My heartfelt thanks to Phil and all the staff at Capitol Fishing without whose help I would not have had such a successful shoot and rave reviews from the clients! I thank you and recommend Capitol Fishing to anyone with fishing needs in the confidence that they will have anything you could ever need and if by some fluke they don't, will go out of their way to help obtain it for you!
Thank you to my new dear Friends in the fishing world~"

Under the curated eye of owmer Michael Rosenber there's a charming mix of knitwear - it's hard not to find something to please the soul. Great for finding gifts for women, children and babies! Michael is very helpful.
Pros: Intriguing mix of knits

Manhattan Shade is hardcore. Whatever sort of shades or draperies you need, they can do it, but expect it to be pricey (although I assume if you're having custom drapes made you already understand this). They will help you select what you need based on decor, light obscuring objectives and more. If you are getting drapes, as opposed to blinds, source your fabric elsewhere to avoid a markup and save money. Be aware that complex orders can take 6 weeks or more to produce.

We had the good fortune of having Manhattan Shade and Glass aid in decorating the addition we had built on to our house....from the start we knew our selection of MS&G was the correct choice for us. The showroom staff spent countless hours helping us choose, from a vast array, our fabrics and design incorporating our suggestions and needs to the final selections. Customer service personnel couldn't have been more efficient and truly exceeded our expectations....a great deal of credit goes to Mitchell Schulman and the installation department as everything had been measured to a T and the installers were sheer perfection...I would not hesitate to recommend this company to those who seek complete satisfaction. Not one minute detail was overlooked.

This store rocks. Besides having a lot of choice and very friendly staff (hard to walk through the store without several greetings), their return policy makes the slightly higher prices worthwhile. I've bought things there and returned them 2 years later because they broke, or didn't work right, with no guilt, because their policy is to accept all returns no questions asked. A few days ago it occurred to me that instead of putting up with the Vornado fan that had gone noisy months ago, I could return it or exchange it for another. I didn't even have the receipt! Sure enough they accepted the return (although as they no longer carried that model, I had to take a store credit which I used to get the newer model they carried). I also twice returned a vacuum that kept breaking (the Shark, don't get it), and each time they took it back, no problem. Returns with receipts mean money back on my credit card (I always use one there to buy stuff). Now I keep a separate folder in my file cabinet for BB&B receipts.
Sure they might be a few more dollars than other places, and to save a few bucks you might not want to buy some things there like shampoo and batteries (go for Costco). But for housewares that might break some day this is the place to go (think expensive blenders, vacuums, water filters, shower heads, etc). If I could love a store this would be one of them.
And I have no affiliation with them. By the way, the store in midtown east (61st? and 1st?) is larger but obviously with the same policies.
Pros: return policies, lots of stuff, now they do delivery!
Cons: a bit more pricey, delivery is like 15 bucks extra (worth it for big stuff)

I went to this store to get supplies for my art class and the prices are really high. They had cutting mats and T-squares for double the price compared to Pearl Paint. I suggest you go to Pearl Paint if you want better prices and are a student (like me) on a budget. The sketchbooks for also priced more here.
