This is my friend and my favorite brunch place. We love the waffle with cinnamon whip cream and strawberrys and all the different coffee drinks. The wait is never more than 5-10 m...

Take the cake and run 5/19/2006

Cafe Lalo has an immense variety of cakes and pies, among other things, which is worth crossing town for. But this adorable, yet small, space tends to get on my nerves, as do most NYC establishments that reap the rewards of being featured in a movie or TV show (Serendipity, you're guilty of this too). Trying to enjoy your dessert here in peace is something of an anomaly - it just doesn't happen. Instead, I prefer to make this the place for ordering cakes and pies for group dinners at someone else's home. These go down very well with the crowd, especially the Three Berry pie, which is a bit of summer in a slice. more

Everybody loves Lalo! 9/20/2005

What's not to love? The place where You've Got Mail was filmed is always lit-up with festive Christmas lights all year round. They have a zillions cakes and desserts to choice from and lots of other nice things. I like to have their baked salmon salad sandwich, even though it's not a dessert food - because they have food for all occasions and appetites. It is worth the wait. more

Noisy but good dessert/coffee 9/1/2005

Made famous by You've Got Mail. There tends to be a good amount of tourists that pass through and it's pretty noisy inside, but I still like it. It's not the kind of cafe to go to read or do work, but it's a good place to go with a friend for a cup of coffee, dessert, and some nice conversation. more

cute but loud 8/20/2005

Café Lalo has become ever so popular since You’ve Got Mail. Always expect a wait. The café is so noisy that you have to shout across a two-person table to talk. It is a cute place inside and outside for delicious desserts and coffee, but there is nothing much else that is offered. Service is fine. Opens till late. more

Delicious Dessert and Food! 8/19/2005

Cafe Lalo is a great place for brunch to enjoy coffee, dessert, and a pot of tea. I went there for brunch with my sister and ordered myself a New York Breakfast which was a yummy salmon on bagel, salad, and coffee. They also served other international brunches such as Parisian and Belgian. The food was delicious. To end our brunch we ordered a Creme Brulee. Oh man just thinking about it leaves me hungry it was really that good. They have a decent dessert and drink menu which they serve variety of different tea, coffee, and also spirits. The service is mediocre. The staff weren't rude it may just be hard to find someone to help you and they are not that attentive. It is very packed and crowded in the evening. Long waits and they may even rush you out during the evening hours. I would recommend coming here for brunch in the afternoon hours to enjoy a cup of tea and food with your friend since there is usually no wait. Overall nice ambiance. This Cafe was also featured in You've Got Mail! more

Delicious Deserts! 8/18/2005

Cafe Lalo is located on 201 W 83rd Street (corner of Broadway). The place itself is similar to Serendipity in a sense that it serves a large variety of desserts and you are confronted with a waiting line once you approach the restaurant. However the wait seems to be a lot shorter at Lalo as opposed to Serendipity even though Lalo is a smaller place. The huge French windows give the place an amazing look especially at night. The food is slightly less pricey then at Serendipity but that doesn't mean that quality suffers. The Chocolate Rasberry Truffle cake is one of the best tasting chocolate desserts ever made. more
