Decent soup, great fresh juice. Bread seemed to have butter on it even though I specified vegan, so double check if you are. more

DO NOT GO THERE!!! 3/11/2009

What made it unique or special?I wish I would have read some of these reviews before going to this sh--hole. I was facing the ""kitchen"", saw the disgusting food handling and unsanitary condition in which the food was prepared. The waitor was cutting slices of cake and LICKING HIS FINGERS right before serving it to customers, without washing his hands. Cons: too many to list more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SH--HOLE!!! 3/11/2009

I wish I would have read some of these reviews before going to this sh--hole. I was facing the ""kitchen"", saw the disgusting food handling and unsanitary condition in which the food was prepared. The waitor was cutting slices of cake and LICKING HIS FINGERS right before serving it to customers, without washing his hands. We really only wanted tea, we bought some for home. Tonight, I called several minutes ahead to place an order and spoke to such a smug, rude b-tch. First, she told me they were very busy. She says ""for future reference"", teas can be bought online. So, I thought..really? so I should pay $8 dollars to wait 5 days to ship tea across the river? is it that big of a deal to put the already pre-canned teas in a bag, you c-nt? (I didn't say this to her) She hung up the phone on me. I arrived a few minutes later, received a very rude and cold attitude when she realized that I was there to pick up the order. I simply took my tea and left...for the second and last time. It?s appalling how owners allow such treatment of customers. Cons: TOO MANY TO LIST more

I LOVED IT!! 12/3/2008

Well I went to NYC for a vaca and I to start I have a big appetite but first of all for everyone complaining about portions: i do not believe there was anything hidden on the theme and setting attached to Teany it was exactly what it was meant to be. (go to Mcdonalds bigger portions crappy food) I went there knowing to have a small dish and something good to drink. I was treated well and I came from a state of great customer service so I thought for it being NYC and a small Tea Cafe' i got what I should of. Thank You Teany and staff Pros: reserved and a healthy way to relax from the real world Cons: off the beatin path almost didn't find Teany being from Wisconsin more

Great food, leave hungry 3/4/2008

I really like this place, the atmosphere is good and the food is lovely. However, the portions are so tiny, I always leave hungry. The size of the portions are actually embarassingly small! I wont go again because of this, but if you have a small appetite and don't need value for money, the food is really great. Pros: Food is great Cons: Need a magnifying glass to check there is actually food on your plate more

Excellent vegetarian/vegan food 8/10/2007

We always go to Teany when in NYC. The food is Very Good - the vegan quiche is excellent, try that or the pasties. I'm not one to always finish my plate, but even I think the portions are a bit small here. Sometimes I think the prices are a bit high, but then I remember that we are in New York! The raspberry lime rickey is a great alternative to the tea. The only disappointment so far has been the desserts - the chocolate peanut butter mousse cake was gross. Pros: Delicious vegetarian/vegan meals Cons: Portions are a bit small, prices are a bit high more

I was impressed 6/20/2007

A friend and I ventured to Teany on 2 separate trips to NYC. It's a bit out of the way, but that is clearly one of it's charms. The staff is extremely friendly and quick to seat you, but give you a chance to pour over the extensive tea menu before they come back around. No hovering, which is always a plus! Pros: Great staff, great food Cons: Music can be a bit loud for such a small space more

Great Vegan/Vegetarian Food 2/28/2007

For all the oinkers out there complaining about Teany's small portions, I thought it was a descent amount of food, not too much like a Tex-Mex place, but not like an amuse-bouche that constitutes as an entree at Nobu. I think part of the deal with Teany is encouraging healthy eating, and that includes not overdoing it with proportions of food. Pros: great veg food, nice waiters, cool vibe, sweet teas Cons: can be cramped more

Mediocre lunch spot 12/12/2006

They have an impressive list of teas and some great tasting bottled teas. But beyond that, this place has nothing to offer. I wanted to like Moby's joint, but the food is below average and overpriced and the atmosphere is lacking. Uninspired, generic and kinda' run-down. There's no reason I would ever go back - much better places to sit and enjoy a pot/cup of tea or have a sandwhich. Sorry, Moby. Pros: Vegetarian menu, vegan options, endless tea options Cons: price, taste, atmosphere, quality more

Great tea selection 6/17/2006

This place is very small, but lucky for us, there were few tables with patrons on this Saturday afternoon. I think that's why we were so disappointed when we ordered one type of scone and received the type we didn't order! Well, rather than make a fuss, we just ate the ones we were given (lemon poppyseed). They were very good, however, so I can't really complain about it. The service was otherwise decent. The tea selection is very good - this is a cute, modern tearoom indeed. Pros: good tea selection, good food Cons: small menu more

Some More MOBY Pls 11/27/2005

I have to say, the best part about Teany was seeing Moby. Okay, got that out of my system. Teany is a great little shop with a wide selection of quality teas. Whether your fancy be green tea to coconut flavored tea, Teany is the place to be. Great for people watching, resting your feet and grabbing a bite to eat. I can't decide between sitting outdoors or indoors. Outdoors offers the great opportunity to people-watch while indoors you get to groove to Moby's electic mix of cafe-appropriate music. An excellent, polite waitstaff transforms the tiny space from something potentially chaotic into something pleasant. Definately worth a try. more

Heated, Outdoor Cafe 11/17/2005

Special teas to sip and scrumptious vegan goodies, salads and sandwiches to enjoy while sitting in a (covered) warm, outdoor cafe - what could be better on a sunny, cold afternoon on the lower east side! Plus, I could buy all of my holiday gifts at teany :) Pros: Prompt seating, Good Vibe, Heated outdoor cafe more

Great little place 8/17/2005

Great place for tea 7/18/2005

This is a wonderful place for true tea lovers. It is not a good place for large groups but great when taking a break with one or two friends. Their food is also very delicious to go with tea. They also have nice decoration and overall a relaxing place to be. more

Great place to go with friends 3/30/2005

I had afternoon tea with a friend of mine a few months ago at Teany. Another friend of mine had given me the thumbs up concerning the place, so I decided it would be a nice place to catch up with an old friend, and I was really impressed. I'm not a vegetarian, but I thought the menu had a nice variety of veggie choices that anyone, including me, could enjoy. My friend and I ordered the afternoon tea, and the sandwiches were amazing, and the scones are some of the best I've ever had (I used to live in Scotland, so I've eaten a lot of scones while having tea). The petit fours were a bit deranged looking, but they tasted great...their presentation just needed a little work. I highly suggest coming down to the LES to check this place out. It's definitely worth the commute. Pros: great menu, relaxing atmosphere, courteous staff more

Great place to grab a bite to eat 3/19/2005

Yes portions are small but the food is fresh and delicious. The prices are reasonable. We went on a saturday and expect to wait a little for a table. Sitting outside is defintely an option. I will be back Pros: atmosphere, food Cons: small space more

Great Place 1/24/2005

This place is awesome...you must get the tea for one or tea for two, if you have a friend with you. You get 2 sandwiches each (out of a choice of like 5) cut into little triangles, crust cut off, a scone each with butter and jam, and petit-fours (minature desserts) all served on a three tiered tray. You also get your choice of 4 teas....one pot per person! Tea for two is only $28! And it is a generous portion of food. You leave there full but not stuffed. It is amazing!!!!!!!!! Even my boyfriend liked it! more
