Earl Grey Creme is like heaven 11/14/2004

We try to get here every few weeks for the delicious teas, scones and finger sandwiches. I'm far from vegan, but I still love the food here. Whenever I feel like I need a break from meat, I think of Teany first. The Earl Grey Creme tea rocks and after downing a pot each of it, we purchase a tin to take home. perhaps I stumbled upon the wrong and counterfeit Teany while looking for the real one because value is not accurate here. I had vegan chicken salad that wasn't bad, but I could have made it at home, and eaten a lot more, and not paid $9 for it. They do have a lot of tea. and the vegan cheesecake was excellent. In NYC, where dinner typicly follows sticker-shock, Teany is a great place for a good, unique meal that leaves you feeling satisfied and your wallet feeling full. Try the tea service (just $14 includes a pot of tea, tea sandwiches, warm scone, dessert, and other goodies), and come by yourself or with a friend. Teany isn't good for big groups. teany is just that: ""teeny""; however, teany is a really cute place to go on a date. i went there with a guy that i was dating, and he absolutely loved it! it's even great for individuals like myself who are making a transition from being a carnivore to becoming a vegetarian/vegan. the service is kinda slow, but this could be seen as a plus, if you're the type to linger over a meal and good conversation. NY VEGAN TREAT 3/16/2004

I just recently visited Teany for the third time, and I have to say its quickly turning into my favorite vegan spot in the city. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the soups are tasty but by far the best thing about Teany has to be the highly addictive vegan turkey club sandwhich. My goal is to try all 96 teas they serve there, so I guess I'll have to visit another 93 times! Pros: cozy, fun!, yummy more

This is a great place for a nice relaxing and light lunch (go during the weekday). Amazing vegan/vegetarian soups, sandwiches and desserts. Simple food without being bland. Refreshing summer teas, cozy spot. Great lunchtime afternoon tea spot with a friend, can order a combo of various finger sandwiches. Clean spare spot, service does tend towards the slow side. This place is adorable and the food is good enough to satisfy even meateaters. The fake turkey club is really good and the crostini spreads are original and delicious. There are so many tasty tea drinks that it's hard to choose. Also, the service is fine, outdoor seating is a plus, and it's inexpensive. I'll definitely go back for more. Cute Vegan retreat 9/7/2003

I went here with my boyfriend (a meat eater) and he REALLY likes to have his meat, so he didn't enjoy as much as I did. But I had the Turkey Club sandwich and IT WAS SO GOOD. The bacon and turkey tasted like real turkey....the bread was perfect. Another time I had the goat cheese sandwich but it was too tiny..hardly enough filling and mostly bread taste...eh. I did try their Chocolate Peanut Butter Bomb though. I CANNOT believe that dessert is Vegan...it's so PLEASURABLE. I even ordered one to go home with!! Ever since my first trip to england, I have lamented America's lack of appreciation for tea. The first time I went to Teany changed my opinion forever. Teany proves that there are a growing number of New Yorkers at least who understand the pleasure of sitting for hours over a drink that seems so simple, yet can be so incredibly satisfying when done right. Teany is the absolute best tea house I've been to in the country, and it vies with the best in GB as well. Oh, and the food and wait staff are absolutely fabulous as well! Best Veggie Joint 4/16/2003

This is my favorite veggie place in the city. The teas are great, but the real lure for me is the food. Afternoon tea special with finger sandwiches is outstanding. The scones are sweet and the ham and cheese sandwich is rich and filling. The best dessert is the peanut butter bomb with smooth whipped peanut butter over a rich chocolate cake. Yum! Cozy Tea Vegan Delight... 3/9/2003

Though small, Teany is a really nice place to just hang out and catch up with friends. The wait staff is really friendly and they always seem to have a smile on their faces. Teany has a huge selection of teas and some excellent vegan fare. I'm not vegan, but I tried their desserts not expecting anything special... their Chocolate Peanut Butter cake is GRRREEEEAATT!!! (a la Tony the Tiger). Mind you... I like chocolate and peanut butter, but this cake really surprised me. A Diamond in the Rough 2/13/2003

I was brought to TEANY by a friend who ""swore"" that it was great... I was not let down. The teas were both abundant and fabulous (which came in open loose tea bags). I tried 4 different types and loved them all. The food was amazing (Turkey Club!, all kinds of pie, platters) (and I'm not a veggie or a vegan). If you're in the Lower E. Great, casual spot 1/18/2003

Moby's teany IS teeny, but luckily the Saturday night we went it wasn't too crowded. I was going to get the chai latte, but figured since I always have that at other places, I would try one of the dozens of teas that are so wonderfully described. I got the almond tea, and it was delicious, as was the vegan peanut butter cake (actually, that was more like heavenly). Great music, very laid back. Cool place to just hang out. more

Cute, out-of-the-way Vegan Cuisine 1/15/2003

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first headed to Teany for a snack--being a vegan I've made it a point to check out every vegan restaurant in New York. It was smaller than expected, and in a slightly unusual neighborhood.. how New York! I wasn't really expecting much from the cafe-like menu and the smallest kitchen I've ever seen... But the food was really excellent, and the atmosphere and decor was kind of cute, despite the claustrophobic quarters. Unfortunately the pesto salad was so big and so good that I didn't have room for any of the vegan desserts, which looked great too! Pros: food, tea selection Cons: small, out of the way more

Pretty good. 12/8/2002

This place IS very teeny. Decor and vibe are ""cool"", but laid-back. Moby was there, being very unpretentious. We got middle eastern platter and ""turkey"" sandwich. Turkey sandwich was very tasty. Middle eastern platter was OK. I'm used to ""traditional"" middle eastern food, but this was a bit different, esp. the tabouleh. In addition, the olives appeared to be out of a jar/can, i.e., they were already pitted. I expected better olives. There's a whole section in the menu dedicated to ""tea"". Therefore, I was surprised when we ordered a pot of tea, and were given a pot with a tea bag in it, as opposed to a pot with loose tea. I definitely expected loose tea, considering the fact that tea is such a big part of this place, and considering the kitchen had shelves of those small airtight storage containers, which I assumed were for the loose tea. and i don't even care about moby. i am there at least once every single weekend. then i am up until 4am from the caffeine. but i have a designated waitress and she is grrrreat! i highly recommend: the turkey club, cashew butter sammich, peach ginger drink, chai latté, forest berries black tea and strawberry rhubarb pie. and ANYTHING ELSE. this place has teas that are impossible to find elsewhere in the city. try the white tea. you WILL love it, i promise. and yeeeees, i have seen moby there. but moby-stalkers, please stay home and eat mcdonalds. I know absolutely nothing about tea, but I've had a good luck with the great breakfasts at Teany. The Teany Bagel is delicious! If you're not a vegan (and I'm not even close), don't sweat it. You won't miss a thing; I didn't. Very friendly and cheerful staff. more
