Perfect before an event at the Garden 2/4/2011

This place is awesome. Their wine list really impressed me and that's great to have before you drop in on a show at the Garden of something. The meals are very gourmet and light but still manage to fill you up. I ended up getting a pizza (which is something I rarely EVER do) and it was the fanciest pizza I had ever eaten in my life. Haha seriously a good place more

A midtown gem for good food! 5/16/2010

Lugo is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat around penn station/msg and the midtown manhattan area! Check out our review with pictures dnafoods.blogspot.c0m/2010/05/lugo-caffe-nyc.html DnAfoods! Pros: good food, good service and price! more

Amazing place right outside of penn! 3/9/2009

Recently meet up with some friends at Penn stat. and decided to go into Lugo's caffe, thinking we would just have drinks.... well so glad we did, this place is great. not only were the drinks great, but the food is fantastic! It has a nice relaxing atmosphere, and we were able eat, laugh and enjoy ourselves. Overall one of the nicest places in NY. Definitely worth a visit. enjoy! Pros: Really good food, great location, very clean more

Best lunch in the neighborhood 3/9/2009

I work in the same building that houses Lugo Caffe & have lunch there at least once a week. There is no where else in the area that serves such good Italian food, and definitely no where as clean & fun. Our entire office heads down for happy hour often. They are happy to accommodate our group, & the service is friendly & casual. Pros: pizzas, prosecco happy hour, friendly service Cons: its a little noisy when its packed more

Perfect kid-friendly Midtown spot for Italian 3/9/2009

I recently took my twins to see the Sesame Street show at MSG for their birthday. I was looking for a kid-friendly place to eat before the show and I knew Fridays was around the area, but I wanted to try something different. Lugo Cafe was right across the street so I decided to try it. At first, the restaurant didn't seem all that inviting for families, but the staff was very accomadating. They prepared half portions of pastas for the kids, which were delicious, and even brought out gelato with a candle on top for their birthdays. The kids loved it and I would recommend it to any family dining earlier in the evening or seeing a show at MSG. Pros: Staff, food, location, flexibility, kid-friendly Cons: China on table (kids) more

This Brit Loved the Pasta! 2/23/2009

I recently visited Lugo and wanted something to warm me up because it was quite chilly outside. I got a nice cup of Earl Grey served by their in-house barista (excellent!) and for food, my waiter suggested their homemade pastas. I took the bait and tried the Spaghetti Pomodora. It was delicious. Not too heavy, not too light and just filling enough so that I could enjoy my shopping in Herald Square. All in all, a fabulous meal and I'll be back. Pros: Good pasta, great coffee/tea, nice afternoon spot Cons: A little chilly in the bar area, but warm in the dinning room more

Best Prosecco Happy Hour in Midtown! 2/18/2009

I went with a group of about 6 girls right after work this past week. We were excited to find out from our waiter that Lugo Caffe has a Prosecco Happy Hour! Each glass was only $4 and it was a perfect end to the rough day we had had at work. The bar was packed with Rangers fans, but it was still a great atmosphere to drink in. Appetizers were delicious and the Prosecco was even better! Pros: Cheap Prosecco, great munchies, good service, good bar crowd Cons: A little noisey in the bar area, but still great atmosphere more

Outstanding place outside of Penn / MSG 1/19/2009

OMG! This place rocks. I took my kids after a Rangers game to this place that just opened in midtown across from MSG. I ordered an antipasta plate with some of the best cheese I ever had in my life. The clam pizza was spot on and they have good wine selection. Nice big and airy space, I'm a fan. Pros: Great food, great prices, great location. What's not to love? Cons: They aren't in Long Island? more

Excellent Italian Restaurant in Midtown - right near Penn Station! 1/12/2009

Lugo Caffe is a great new Italian restaurant right next to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. It's perfect for any business meeting or just having dinner with friends before or after an event at MSG. Pros: An all-around great dining experience. more

Non-Accomodating ! Felt rushed 4/24/2008

Had the pleasure of dining at Tupelo with old friends. We had Rib eyes, Filets and some side dishes, all perfectly prepared. I rated the service category low because we felt like we were being rushed. We had a 7pm reservation, arrived on time and admittedly did not order our food till about 7:30. They did not allow enough time to finish our appetizers before bringing out our main course. By the time it was 8:30pm the place had cleared out, we were practically the only ones there. The waiter advised us that they would be closing soon and handed us the check. I was surprised they closed so early. more

Best steak & wine in the Garden area! 4/6/2008

Go to Tupelo about 3 times a week as we live across the street. it's either the food, the staff, or the cocktails that keep us coming back. Even when something's going on at the garden, we enjoy ourselves. Last week, had the filet & creamed spinach, and mac and brie with a bottle of BV. the steak was perfect, the sides were inventive and the wine underpriced. Sure it was loud and crowded, the Rangers were playing!!! Rather than annoy us, like other ""tin roof"" sounding fine dining restaurants around, we got into the vibe around us. Other nights, the scene is more chill. Either way, food is consistent and the staff very welcoming. If you haven't been and go to the garden for anything at all, you're missing out. Pros: Lively surroundings and terrific food in an abyss of either Cons: Can be tough to find from the street more

Great Time 9/19/2005

A very professional place. I met up with some co-workers/business associates for some drinks and dinner. The bar was not so corwded that we could not talk to each other in a comfortable voice. The Bartenders were great fun with a sense of humor. Dinner was delicous and service was great! Pros: Good Food, Great Bartenders more

One Bright Spot in the Area 3/3/2004

In the vast wasteland of diners, delis, and sports bars in this area, Tupelo Grill is a hiddent jewel. The food is creative and delicious; the service is excellent; and the ambience is quiet and peaceful. You would hardly believe that you are right across the street from the Garden and Penn Station. I highly recommend to anyone. Pros: creative food, friendly service, attractive people Cons: , Pricey but worth it, weak drinks more

Good venue, Good Pre-game, Missable Meal 2/12/2003

Fine for a Pre-game meal if you don't mind overpriced pseudo-cuisine, but I wouldn't venture too far from the steaks. Service is fine, ambience is lacking and a little heavy on the testosterone. That said, can't beat the proximity to the Garden, its a great size/set-up for a large party, and not a bad place for an after-work beer if you're into that Bridge&Tunnel Penn Station crowd.. Pros: Good party venue, Close to MSG, Decent bar Cons: Overpriced, Noisy, Disappointing Food more

Making you feel special 11/14/2002

Whether its a pre-Knick game dinner, or a business lunch, Tupelo is the place to go if you like Service and good food. If you want to truly feel special, ask to have Elizabeth as your waitperson. She lights up the floor and makes everyone feel like they are the only customer in the restaurant. The bar scene is good too and if you like eating outside in the summer, there are plenty of outdoor tables. Pros: Elizabeth, Seafood more

Garden Star 7/24/2002

Finally, a truly excellent restaurant at Madison Square Garden, Tupelo blew us away from the moment we walked in, the manager was professional yet completely charming, a great bar scene and a menu to die for, as you can tell I loved it! highly recommend the crab cakes, sea bass skewers and Tupelo lemonade Pros: outdoor dining, parking, decor more
