Kosher and delicious! 9/20/2005

Deli Kasbah has a lot of uniqueness to it. The most obvious way to observe this is the movies on loop of white-bearded Rabbis. Ambiance aside, their food is good and their portions are HUGE. Great bar b que stuff, like hamburgers and chicken are excellent. My friend loves their rice. I have never had anything on the menu that I didn't like. Try the kabobs! more

All Rebbe, All the Time 9/19/2005

Deli Kasbah is unlike any other deli you've seen -- of course it has the standard NYC deli accoutrements, i.e. salami hanging from from ceiling, cholesterol-laden chopped liver, and the old-time regulars, but it also has (I quote) rebbevision! Deli Kasbah is a kosher deli that prominently broadcasts taped lectures from the late Lubavitcher rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson. (Apparently they now have flat screens on all sides of the interior, so you and your dining companions won't miss a bit of the Rebbe's exhortions.) But getting to the most important thing, the food, it is pretty good. It has the standard deli fare along with middle Eastern standards (Falafel, pita, hummus, Moroccan Cigars, i.e. filo dough stuffed with spiced meat), all moderately priced. I personally recommend the chicken soup, as it's quite good. The ambiance isn't the greatest, as it can be noisy even without the Rebbe's lectures, but it's a decent place to go with family and friends. Not exactly the best place for a date, but the rebbevision makes for a great conversation piece. more

Kosher Deli 8/21/2005

Deli Casbah offers authentic, home-cooked jewish / kosher / israeli food such as chicken soup, shwarma, shish kabob and moroccan cigars. The service is good, the ambience is casual and the restaurant is clean and simple. This may be the best kosher meat restaurant on the upper west side. They also deliver and offer lunch specials. more

Good Greasy Food 8/17/2005

Come to Deli Kasbah for the food, not the ideology. The Lubavitch-owned restaurant serves up good steaks and other BBQ and fried delicacies--especially the Rumaki, fired chicken wrapped in pastrami. Eating in might be a strange experience for some, as the restaurants plays continuous video of the Lubavitcher Rebbe and has pamphlets on the tables more
