Antonio Prieto Salon

I have been going to Jon F. to have my hair cut and styled for the past 13 years. He has consistently used his expertise to cut my fine hair into styles that are current but also suit my more classic personal style. We've gone long, short, long again and Jon has artfully and gracefully taken me from my 20's to my 30's to my 40's (eek!) and hopefully beyond. I have received countless compliments on my hair cuts over the years from friends, co-workers, and strangers. His expert cuts are well worth the money. The tranquil design of the new location is also a plus. Pros: great cuts , consistent value more

I love Mike the colorist. Unfortunately, the prices have gone up and my disposable income has gone down as I am finishing college and beginning to support myself ($200 color is a lot more do-able when mom is footing the bill!) However, what he offers is so natural yet sophisticated that for those who don't think twice about above average priced color, it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. For the price, I do wish they would blow out your hair after coloring. Also know that they will push the $30 kerastase treatment, but that it does enchance color and shine. The atmosphere is relaxed yet professional and unpretentious. Often, I get hungry and order food while in the chair and they are fine with it! I have been to salons all over Manhattan and the vibe here is decidedly not cooler-than-thou or Bergdorf-Blonde-y even though they do good work. The crowd is polished but casual, pretty typical/boring New York women-- the reason to go is the service, not to gossip, see-and-be-scene, or starwatch. But the service is fantastic, and the stylists are very talented! Pros: great stylists, relaxed atmosphere, attentive staff Cons: rising prices, takes awhile more

This is a wonderful salon. I go for the apprentice program and have had Peter do my highlights twice. He is so talented and is so friendly. I look better than I ever have before - my hair looks so natural. I'm sort of scared for Peter's apprenticeship to end because I'm going to have to pay the higher prices in order to still have him do my hair - and I'm not a spender - He's just so good that I can't do without him. If you want incredible hair that makes your face look really alive - book Peter - apprentice or not he's simply the best!! Pros: Peter, Everybody is so nice, Did I mention Peter? more

Peter is amazing. I had no real idea what I wanted, and I told him to just use his judgement...and wow. The beautiful red he put on my hair looks not only vibrant and gorgeous, but it looks natural! Walking down the street after walking out of the salon, men were turning heads.I get compliments everywhere I go...not on the ""color job"" but on my ""naturally"" red hair. My haircut is not everything I expected. I didn't really tell the stylist what I wanted which was my fault, and in return my front layer is a bit shorter than I wanted it. He did a good job, and was so sweet. Antonio came over and spent a lot of time on my hair demonstrating the cut I was looking for. Unfortuntely, my hair came out a lot shorter in the first layer than I wanted it. Overall, Highly reccomended. more

I have curly hair and have had many bad hair experiences which has put the fear of the shear in me. After my wonderful experience at APS I can finally relax b/c it was nothing short of AB-FAB!!! I walked in and was greeted with genuine smiles and excitment, after consulting with Mariel my stylist I was put in the hands of a wonderfull technition named Matt who proceeded to love my locks with the most yummy smelling hair mask treatment asking me several times if there was anything he can get for me, as if I wasn't in heaven already?!?! I was then picked up by Mariel who proceeded to work her magic on my hair... I walked out of there with my hair looking amazing! more

It's like I got a face lift minus the stretched out look...If you can try to get Peter - it's the best deal you'll ever have since the guy has tons of experience/talent (I think he said 20 years? - plus he owned his own Salon) but he's new to New York & Antonio Prieto hence the apprentice program... Did you look at the rates for this place? I'm so sick of these salon owners thinking they should charge this much for haircuts. I know New York should be a little more expensive, but it's a haircut, not investment banking. Get over yourselves. more
