Get your haircut with Angie. She is awesome! 12/2/2007

I am so glad I found Antonio Prieto Salon. A friend told me about their apprentice program a while ago and I haven't been back to my old hair salon. Angie is amazing. She really listens to what you want and I have gotten so many compliments on the haircuts that she has given me. She also really knows hair. She gave me advice on what works for my texture and style of hair and it's been the best. Definitely ask for Angie if you want a great haircut. more

Stop hiring rude front-desk staff 10/15/2007

Want to see classism in the US? Go to Antonio's salon! While the front-desk staff offers huge smiles and undevoted attention to those paying full-price, anyone who actually wants to take advantage of the unbelievable apprentice rates is treated like dirt. Heaven forbid you have a question. To avoid eye-rolls, sarcastic comments and gum chomping--walk in, shut up, pay cash, and take the first appointment they offer. Don't expect eye-contact either. So long as you can stomach this rudeness for the 5 minutes it takes to schedule an appointment, this place is worth it! Pros: awesome work Cons: RUDE front-desk staff more

Overrated, a factory 8/16/2007

Pay top dollar to be treated like a farm animal. After I spent time explaining to the colorist that under no circumstances did I want red highlights on my dark brown hair, that is precisely what I received. They were so orange that I had to go back to have them corrected. When I decided not to pay an extra $30 (on top of the $270 I spent on my color) to have my hair dried, I was given a hair dryer (which is fine) and then my colorist pretty much disappeared. She popped by while I was checking out, flicked my hair a couple of times and deemed that it looked "fine". This place should be charging much less for the color just because there is almost no service involved. I felt underappreciated, left out to pasture and wondered to myself if I should have paid about as much for a real brand name salon. Save your money. Pros: if you like noise, being nameless and rushed through - this is the place for you Cons: noisy, not a particularly uplifing experience (which is something you may want from a salon) more

I look 10 years younger thanks to Pavel !!!! 7/11/2007

I went to Antonio Prieto's Salon with much hesitation. I had not cut my hair in such a long time and was really scared. I did not want to take any chances and end up hating myself and my hair. Then I met Pavel. Pavel was great, not only did he understand my fear, he actually eased me through the whole process. He knew exactly what he was doing and gave me his honest opinion on what would and would not work for me. In the end I honestly looked 10 Years younger. I got so many compliments the next day, it was a definite confidence boost. It was really an enjoyable experience. If you ever decide to go to this salon, ask for Pavel. Trust me you will not regret it. Pros: Great cut, great atmosphere more

Where have I Been? 6/11/2007

I don't know what I have been thinking all of these years walking around town with a lousy haircut. I FINALLY FOUND A GREAT SALON! I saw Gil and he made my ugly 'do into something beautiful and awesome. I really couldn't believe how easy it was for me to talk to him. He totally understood what I wanted! The best time to go in if you hate a crowd is on a Monday afternoon. I got great attention and listened to some cool tunes... Pros: Chill environment, really nice staff Cons: Closed Sundays more

great cuts and color by the apprentices 5/8/2007

I have been to a few of the trainees for cut and color. I loved Michael for color. She listened to my needs, had suggestions about what would look good, and it came out even better than I had hoped, no pretentiousness at all. It's too bad she graduated the apprentice program. I recently got my hair cut by Nick, and he was amazing. He did not rush through the cut, answered my questions about styling. The cuts long with body and I love it. Both of them I would go to again and again if I wasn't leaving NYC. Pros: stylists with magic fingers more

Overpriced and overrated 4/15/2007

I made an appointment with Brian, a senior stylist, for a haircut on a weeknight. I was kept waiting for 30 minutes while his previous appointment was being blown out. When I was finally seated, I told him explicitly that I wanted a conservative haircut, and that I can't handle too many layers because of my coarse hair texture (I have a very hard time blow-drying at home). His "assistant" washed my hair by barely running her fingers through my hair with shampoo and conditioner. There was barely any massaging; I may as well have washed my hair myself. When Brian started to cut my hair, the first layer he cut was almost to my chin, which with my hair texture, I KNOW I cannot straighten on my own. Even though I made a comment that there shouldn't be any more layers, he continued to keep cutting. Furthermore, he cut all of the hair into my lap; nearly every snip he cut was in my lap (all 5 inches of it). When he dried my hair, I knew I would be unable to recreate that kind of look at home. He is clearly someone who cuts without underestanding hair texture. My chunky layers were no where close to the "conservative cut" I had requested. As I was checking out, I noticed that his service was $125. That was not the listed price on the website for the most junior person on the staff (it's $100 on the website). This is by far the worst & most expensive haircut I've received in NYC, and will never be going back. Pros: Kerastase hair products Cons: Poor customer service, unskilled hair stylist more

Pavel will make you look like a rock star. 3/28/2007

There isn't a better haircut to be had in New York. I came in last week on a friend's recommendation, and came out with the best haircut I can remember. Pavel was professional, laid-back and a lot of fun. He also listens - I wanted something conservative enough for work, but with a bit of an edge. He gave me exactly that. I walked out feeling great, and I'll definitely be back. more
