very good 12/7/2010

I just loved the rooms. We had 3 rooms ,one with a king bed and 2 with twop queen size beds. The rooms are nice and big and the beds are heaven after a long day shopping and showing the City to our out of towner relatives. more

Hidden Treasure Hotel ! 9/15/2010

I stayed at Skyline many years ago and am planning to visit soon. I am so pleased to see these good reviews/comments because they express exactly what we experienced when we stayed there. I am kind of hesitant to say how great it is because it may become a tourist trap or filled with traveling college kids who may spoil the place. Skyline has to make money and I am positive they will uphold the superior standards they have set for themselves in making their guests feel like they appreciate their business. Nice lobby and Lounge too. more

Best side of NY 8/15/2010

My husband and I are in NY frequently and wouldn't stay anywhere else but the Skyline. The staff is super - but Nick stands out as an attention to detail guy - always there when you need him. We enjoy being so close to all NY has to offer and it is very easy for us to work and play. Times Square, Central Park and more are a joy anytime and being able to get back to an easy access hotel is comforting. We highly recommend staying here. more

EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY. 11/7/2009

MY WIFE AND I TRAVELLED TO THE BIG APPLE FROM THE UK FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST YEAR(NOV 08) AND BOOKED THE HOTEL WITH SOME FRIENDS VIA THE WEBSITE. WE DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT, HOWEVER I CAN HONESTLY SAY IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE. THE HOTEL IS NEAR TO MANY OF THE MAIN SITES SOME WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OR SUBWAY AND SOME GREAT EATING ESTABLISHMENTS TOO. WE LIKED IT SO MUCH SO THAT WE'VE BOOKED TO GO AGAIN THIS MONTH. LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING BACK! Pros: GOOD LOCATION, GOOD SIZE ROOMS, FRIENDLY STAFF. Cons: JUST A LITTLE BIT DATED. more

Great accomodations, excellent location! 10/28/2008

Stayed at the Skyline Hotel in October 2008 and could not have been more pleased. The accomodations were great....large rooms, very clean, excellent service. Only complaint was the AC/heating unit would make loud ""banging"" noises even when turned off. It was not constant, but did wake you from sleeping when the banging would occur. Put some ear plugs in and slept just fine! It was nice that the windows open to let fresh air in! The best part about the Skyline is the location. It is just a quick 10 minute walk to Time Square and all the action. I highly recommend lunch at the Italian bistro on the corner of 10th and 51st. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. The City Lights diner on 10th is also great for a LARGE yet cheap breakfast, but not the nicest staff. The bellhop also recommended the Amish market a block or two up for a great deli sandwich. It is truly a grocery story, but has a great deli department with freshly made sandwiches, pizzas, salads, and even sushi. We wish we would have found it sooner! The staff was very helpful and had great recommendations on places to eat and things to see! They were also great about keeping our luggage when we arrive before check-in. Pros: Great location, helpful staff more

great location/accomodations 2/4/2008

this hotel has everything and more! A great location at a reasonable rate. My husband left his watch in the bathroom and didn't realize until we were at the aiport. We called the hotel, they found it and mailed it back certified. Will stay here on my next trip. Pros: location, accomodations Cons: this part of NY is very pricey more

Very happy (despite old reviews) 8/6/2006

I had a great experience at Skyline Hotel. The staff was pleasant and helpful compared to the typical New Yorker. The room was clean and very spacious compared to the typical New York hotel room. The location is convenient. This is no 5 star hotel you're getting, but you're not paying a 5 star price either. Over all it's a spectacular value. 1/2 price with 3/4 the service, you're still coming out 1/4 ahead! Pros: the value! super price and a pretty decent hotel Cons: it's no 5-star hotel more

Better than expected 10/27/2005

Don't let the facade fool you. It's an older building and the hallways are a bit dark, and it's not the ""W"" ambiance. However, the rooms are better than most hotels and have been refurbished. Everything looks and feels new. It was surprisingly quiet at night considering this city never sleeps and the restaurants and bars are only two blocks away and Times Square is four (long) blocks away. Parking is $10 a night with hotel stay. Pros: roomy, price, location Cons: dark, no smiles more

Location, Location, Location 6/21/2005

The hotel is clean and the employees were very helpful and friendly. This hotel is mostly for adults and teens. Booked rooms on Skyline's website and the lodging charge they give is accurate and no hidden charges. Parking was only 10.00 a day. Overall a great stay. Tips This hotel is walking distance to all most everything. And if you don't want to walk take a cab and every place you want to see is just 5.00 or 10.00 dollars away. You can walk to Time Square, and the Gray Line Sightseeing tour is just four blocks away, a must if your visting New York for the first time. If you want to eat cheap...just walk across the street and have some great tasting deli breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Or go to Restaurant Row that is just 3 blocks away. We all had a great time. Pros: Great price, Hotel parking, Honesty Cons: TV reception more

A Good Bargain in an Expensive City 2/24/2003

Went ahead with my reservation despite the wide range of reviews. No it's not luxurious but it's very convenient (lots of cabs) within a few blocks of times square and broadway shows, and the subway. Room was comfortable, quiet, and clean. A bit overheated (ran the a/c on high all night in February). Pool is just fair but great for kids. There was virtually no guest or street noise! Staff was generally responsive and good. You get what you pay for. Parking is a great deal @$8 per night. If you're looking to do midtown, this is a very good low cost option. Pros: Quiet, Price, Location Cons: Dreary halls, Luggage do/pu awk. more

Mixed experience 12/27/2002

We stayed at the Skyline for two days in late 2002. The deluxe king room was very spacious and clean. The concierge was helpful, and the bellboy did a good job of looking after our luggage. We had looked forward to the pool, which was warm and over-chlorinated to the point where our eyes stung during our entire visit. The costly local phone calls were a bummer. Finally, the location was a little far from restaurants and sightseeing for our 5-year-old to walk, so we probably will stay somewhere more central next time. Not a horrible experience, but we think we can do better! more

Is this a three star hotel ? 12/8/2002

We asked the front desk to call us a cab and they responded by laughing in my wife's face and saying ""you have to call your own cab, we don't do that here."" No big deal ordinarilly, but I was kind of put off by their lack of concern for their guests. I will not ever stay at the Skyline again. If there were services offered by this hotel, they did a good job of not letting us find out what they were. The concierge was gone by 7:00PM, the TV was billed as having digital cable, webtv, and a game system, but there were no manuals or literarture in the room to explain how to access these. Also there was no brochure to describe and explain how to access hotel services. Do yourself a favor, for a little more money you can stay someplace closer with much better services. Pros: Bell Captain was help, Rooms were clean, Inexpensive Cons: Services poor, Far away from attract, Not worth the money more

I should have known.... 11/30/2002

after pre paying a whole 3 weeks in advance and paying over $1200.00 for 6 nights, and they didn't have our reservation on record, we were goning to be in trouble. They did not have our non smoking avail, so we had to switch rooms after one night, and were but in a roon for physcally challenged people, which we did not need. The room had the noisiest heater that would not work! But woke us up at 3 AM when it did kick in!One pleasentry our house keeping lady. And after complaining the hotel did nothing to compensate for our not so nice stay. The rest of our trip outside the hotel was absolutely wonderful! Pros: clean Cons: not friendly, cost more

I found my place in NY 11/12/2002

I had ""delux king"" room and it was great. Room was BIG!!!(even if that wasn't NY). Furniture was almost brand new and nothing was broken. I believe this was the first hotel I saw in years that had room almost as good as the lobby. Most of the place is worn down in the hotel but delux king and queen (I've been told) was newly done. Internet rate was very reasonable. One caution though... If you are going to leave your stuff with the bell boy before you chek in, do it with your own risk. I almost lost my luggage thnks(?) to the day time bell boy. Except him everyone else were very attentitive and nice. I would definately try again. more

weekend fun 11/11/2002

My best friend and I stayed at the skyline in Aug. while seeing Mary J Blige at the Apollo Theater. The hotel was great for the money. However it was very warm in the room, the air conditioner didn't work much. And lets just say the customer service was a real nightmare. But the attitudes in Ny is less than friendly often anyway. But the rooms were clean, and it was a good value in a decent neighborhood for the 89.00 a night. Just make sure that if you make internet reservations they adhere to the price. I would stay again, especially in the winter. The rooms climate would be perfect in the dead of winter. I was overcharged for my room because I made reservations over the net, but was refunded asap from mangr before check it. Pros: indoor pool, value, clean rooms Cons: lack of service, warm rooms, overcharged more

Not pleased at all: 10/31/2002

Who would think you'd find a real Hell in Hell's Kitchen? I booked my family reunion into this hotel. We were told we'd have a block of rooms together. We were scattered all over the hotel. The air conditioning didn't work (this was Aug) and we had to switch rooms. The toilet broke minutes before our banquet and we were asked to switch rooms again. One family's room had no electricity and was asked if they could wait until morning for repair! She had to find a new room as well. My family had a good time because we were together, but the hotel is not worth it! Pros: indoor pool, inexpensive, penthouse ballroom Cons: poor customer service, shoddy electricity, shoddy plumbing more
