The green tea to start, the friendly staff, the great hair cut and the low prices make an unbeatable combination. Pros: Love my hair and the stylist was terrific

I've never left a review before but I felt compelled to leave one this time. The first time I went to Parlor I saw Gwen and my experience was OK. I was wearing my hair straight ...

Used to be great.. 10/12/2011

.. not anymore. For some reason almost all talented stylists who used to work there are gone, and the new staff is quite helpless and needs more training. The place is still cute and charming, but the quality has declined tremendously. The owner is unpleasant. Unless you have a time machine and can go 5 years back, don't go there. more

Colorist that left recently 9/3/2009

The Parlor is a wonderful place I heard about through a friend at work. I went in for a color consult, and walked out looking magnificent! I was devastated when I heard abut his departure, and it took me a week of calling around to try and find him, there are a lot of salons in NY.... If you are curious about parlor, I would give it two thumbs up as a salon, even though the ""highlight"" for me is now gone. If you also used to see Hayden, I tracked him down at Salon Berardinis on 7th ave, I was glad to have found him I never had such a natural look to my highlights. Pros: lovely enviornment and professional staff Cons: my color guy left, Hayden more

Wonderful Salon, Hayden Kings is a Fabulous Colorist!! 8/20/2009

I am so glad I found my colorist, Hayden Kings. So glad to see him again, he recently moved to a new Chelsea location: De Berardinis at 155 W 21 Street, Ph. (212) 967-0927. And they are open on Sundays, so convenient!! Pros: Aveda Products and Great Staff more

Nice space, people, and service - but not top notch 12/6/2008

I visited Parlor last winter for a single process with Gwen. After years with a colorist on Long Island, I figured it was high time that I actually get my hair colored by someone closer to home. Due to nerves, I figured my best bet was to book with the owner, since she's been in the business for years and, naturally, would be good at what she does. Gwen was such a sweetheart - really knowledgeable, offered me wine, which was AWESOME, and her assistant was a really nice guy. But overall, my service was just okay. The space is nice, the people are nice, but my hair turned out much darker than I wanted, I was not offered a glaze (which I think is key), and the blowdry the assistant gave me was atrocious. I decided not to go back mostly because I can't afford to pay extra $$ to have my color done by the owner, but also because I don't like the idea of an assistant doing my blowout and my colorist shuttling back and forth between clients. I wouldn't discourage others from coming here - they are such nice people and clearly passionate about what they do - I guess it just wasn't the place for me. Pros: Warm, welcoming salon. Cons: A bit pricey; service not as fantastic as I had hoped for. more

staff is great, manager is a total dbag 11/9/2008

the stylists are great at this place, and they always do a phenomenal job. however, the manager is an absolute dbag that takes himself so seriously. he dresses like a chump, and has no manners whatsoever. the guy is such a loser and it boggles my mind that the owner hired someone with no manners. all this being said, the rest of the place and staff is great. Pros: ambience, staff Cons: manager is a rude dbag more

The Karma Just Keeps Getting Better! 7/24/2008

I didn't believe it was possible that the karma at Parlor could improve but in the past couple weeks every time I walk by that place it glows! Awesome service, top shelf service, attention to detail and the stylists and owner are the cream of the crop. Be gone bad energy! Pros: The warmest and coolest people work there! Cons: I wish they served drinks because with such great music and atmosphere I'd love to stay for awhile. more

Thanks for finding Tina 7/2/2008

I too have been going to Parlor for several years and seeing Tina and so was baffled when I heard she was no longer there, and even more baffled by the post by the owner. For those who've been going to Tina, you'll remember she was promoted two or three times while working there, so it's a shame to see the owner disparage her now that she has left. Thank you for letting Tina fans know she is now at Soon Salon. I'll be calling right away. more

Tina F is the best stylist! 6/11/2008

My name is Erin Lucas and both me and my best friend Brooke Sherman have been clients of Tina F's for two years at Parlor. I was called by Parlor to let me know she had left and that would I like to reschedule my May 29th apt with Boswell or Katia. I love Palor for the ambience and because they use Aveda products but mainly for my stylist Tina F. I have fine curly hair and after visiting Tina I now know the value of a great cut. My friend Brooke Sherman who introduced me to Parlor and Tina has short hair and usually opts for something cutting edge/modern,while I opt for a more classic cut. Our hair may be very different but we both get amazing cuts. Parlor they did not tell me where Tina had gone but instead recomended Boswell or Katia. I have had Katia highlight my hair once before and she did a great job but I will stick with my usual stylist for my cut. By luck or by fate I ran into Tina F on W22nd st when I popped into Soon Salon for a blowout. She is now working there and I can't believe I found her. My husband think I am crazy when it comes to my hair but the man shaves his head. Anyway I just wanted to let other Tina Fans know and I was very disapointed by the disparaging remarks made by Parlor owner Gwenn below. It is very unfortunate and unprofessional. She claims Tina posed as Jenny so that is why I am using my actual name and Brooke's as we are listed in the Parlor database and are actual clients. Anyway Tina is great and I am glad to have found her at Soon Salon on W 22nd St between 5th and 6th Ave. Parlor is a great salon but I will now be following Tina wherever she goes! Pros: They use Aveda products and the salon is cute. Cons: It is not close to a main subway and Tina F has left! more

Positive about Tina 6/6/2008

I don't understand what's going on here with the Tina comments. I went to her because she was the stylist of a friend who always looks great. Tina cut my hair twice and I was very happy with the results. In fact, just today I tried to make another appointment and learned she'd left Parlor. The receptionist said he didn't know where she'd gone, but if anyone does, perhaps you could post the information here? more

SHAME ON YOU TINA... BAD BAD KARMA 6/4/2008

I have over the years always seeked to hire talent and passion. There are only a few things more important to me at PARLOR than to be with people that have integrity and positive energy. It is embarrassing to be pulled down to such a petty level but the previous fake review (one of many sad to say) , via jenny (TINA incognito) is one of the many reasons she is no longer with Parlor. Tina made a habit of writing her own praises and it is too bad that CITYSEARCH can be manipulated in such a way. Pros: passionate, talented, integrity more

Exemplary customer service with a sincere, personal touch 6/4/2008

I just saw J. Arrin for my color and cut, and he was simply amazing. From his firm handshake to his gentle manner, I knew that I would receive the kind of service I deserve. I wanted to go from dark brown to a lighter brown, but was afraid of looking garish. The end result was stunning. He walked me through the process, recommended products that ensure a long-lasting color, and even sent me a thank-you note! I will refer all of my friends to J. Arrin. And as for the salon itself, it feels so...warm. All the employees look happy to be there and even the manager at the front desk greeted me with a smile. I do not know who JenD from the previous review saw or where she went, but it was NOT Parlor and she must not have seen my new stylist-for-life, J. Arrin. Pros: Lovely space, lovely technician, even lovelier red wine! Cons: It is a trek from the train more

Desperate for a Tina fix! Please help! 6/3/2008

My stylist Tina left Parlor and I have no contact info for her! I just had my hair done at Parlor from a new stylist ""J"" and it is by far the worste ""hair"" ever, he is apparently Tina's replacement. But I just wanted to warn the rest of Tina's clients, DO NOT see him!! It is horrible., NOW I am in desperate need of a TINA FIX and reaching out to citysearch to find her, If any of her clients reads this and knows where she is please contact me at Jdana90@lives . Needless to say I wont ever go back to Parlor, This Place isn't the same without her!!!! She is one of a kind, a truely great stylist. Please Help! JD. more

Great Experience 3/6/2008

I had my hair cut my Kat on the Monday prior to my 1/2 head of highlights with Michael and I walked away from both appointments completely satisfied. Kat gave me a the low maintainence, flattering cut that I have searched for most of my life. My hair, totally virginal after not having been dyed for 7 years, looks awesome after Michael meticulously spent over two hours painstakingly selecting strategic strands to highlight. I could not be more satisified! Props to both of them and parlor for their great hair modeling deal. Pros: ambience, stylists, everything Cons: can't think of one more

I'm so happy to have found this place 2/22/2008

I'm terrified of having my hair cut and rarely venture to a new place. After a few months of looking like a victim of electrocution I decided it was time. I have curly big hair, and have had one haircut that I loved but at a place that was way overpriced and out of the way. I needed a cut but also wanted to stay in my neighborhood and not spend half my paycheck. I had passed Parlour a few times always curious. I read all these reviews on citysearch, and it seemed suspicious a little how many people championed Tina, but I thought I'd give her a shot and I'm soooo happy I did. She listened to what I wanted, and I felt comfortable and I will definitely be going back to her. Gave me a great haircut and was easygoing and funny. Everyone there was really nice and cool, not snobby or intimidating like a certain meatpacking salon I once went to. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes a low-key salon with good taste and talented cutters, and the aveda products smell really good and their tea is yummy. Pros: Great haircut, location, ambiance, price, the list goes on... Cons: Um...can't think of any. more

Wonderful experience! 2/20/2008

First time at Parlor. Asked, via e-mail, if they had anyone who was good with fine thin hair. (My hair used to be thick and wavy and since it has changed in recent years, I had been having trouble finding someone who could give me a good haircut...shaggy, layered, with as much volume and curl as possible.)They suggested 2 of their stylists and I called and made an appointment with Boswell. Nothing short of great! He is a really good listener, knew what I wanted and gave me a fabulous haircut. I am going back next time for color and never plan to leave. :-) The shop is very pleasant and comfortable. The fees are explained up front and are reasonable. Very happy to have found him and them. more

Tina brought ...exy back! (oh dear, this fascist Citysearch won't let me use the word. ..exy - put an s at the front) 2/17/2008

(drumroll) this is my first online review ever....and that alone should tell you something! I went into Parlor, knowing nothing, other than I needed a haircut and my friend was going. I went to Tina, knowing nothing, other than what the Parlor website told me (by the way, excellently designed website!!) What can I say? Definitely not enough. I looked at Tina and told her to ""keep the length and bring in the ...exy."" vague instructions for a sylist and when she would attempt to elicit more comments and instructions i would just say: ""use your hair artist skills."" she did and my hair looks fantastic! i have curly hair, i've had it short, long, layered, unlayered, angled - you name it , i've done it. i thought i couldn't do anything new with a cut, but alas, Tina did it. I told her to bring ...exy back, and she did. Go Tina! Pros: everything more

New Stylist Michael is a DREAM COME TRUE!!! 12/30/2007

Being a redhead on a budget in New York is a nightmare...the color fades and upkeep's a fortune. And if you do it yourself? When you finally get to a salon for ""professional help,"" you're made to feel like you have two left hands.
Pros: Cozy, charming, knowledgable staff Cons: A bit of a walk from the subway more

The best customer service ever. PERIOD. 11/29/2007

I have been a client of Parlor for 2 years. I fell into Tina's lap after my first stylist had to cancel an appointment, and I've been Tina's ever since! She listens more than any stylist I've worked with and won't let me leave until I'm 110% satisfied. She makes me feel beautiful and has become a true friend that I look forward to seeing at the salon. We talk through all the changes I want to make, and I'm not afraid to take risks because if they don't turn out, she fixes them. I don't expect perfection from a stylist--I understand that hair is a tricky thing and achieving a certain look isn't always possible, but Tina works harder toward perfection than any other stylist I've met. That's what's important--I know that she is working her butt off to get me exactly what I want and it's almost always perfect! Pros: customer service, ambience, Tina more

***Boswell @ Parlor ***** 11/20/2007

Last week I had my cut & color with Boswell @ Parlor, I had the most pleasant salon experience ever. From the moment I stepped into Parlor I was 200% customer serviced from the straight fashion forward approach from Boswell, to his perfection in my most hip haircut to wine and the friendliest staff. I love this cute, cozy, hip salon, where my stylist took time to understand what i had in mind and added his expertise. I can't recommend Parlor enough! It's a great salon plus Aveda products. Pros: aveda, great customer service, great skills, Boswell Cons: I can not think of any. more
