Highly Recommended 3/2/2005

My stylist moved out of NY last summer so I was in a bind. I have been going to Parlor for about six months now. I have been seeing Cristen. She listens to what I want and does a wonderful job on my cut and color. I always feel great when I leave the salon and her prices are very reasonable for NYC. I have recommended all of my friends to her. The salon has a warm atmosphere and I love that they use aveda products. I highly recommend parlor!!!!! Pros: good prices, on time, clean more

They turned my blond hair gray-green 2/24/2005

This is a true story from 2001. I went in to have my highlights done and the my hair came our gray-green. The woman - one of the owners or sister of the owner, said she would try to fix it the following week. (was she going to charge me again?) She look so worried and told me that I should not blow it out during the week either - this meaning that she knew she had made a mistake. I ended up not going back and having my hair dyed brown. So sad - I loved my bond hair. She never apologized so I didn't feel bad about not showing up for my re-do appointment - she had cost me much more and I cared less when the male receptionist snotty called me and demanded to know why I didn't show up. Parlor Rocks 11/18/2004

Finally I have found a salon I can go back to! I am one of those gals whose hairdresser up and left Manhattan and I have been wandering since. I went to Parlor, found Amy and fully intend on making all of my future hair appointments with her! We talked at length about what I wanted and what would suit me and then she cut away... now that the cut has had a couple of weeks to grow in.. it is absolutely perfect! And totally affordable at $50 bux.. thanks Amy! more

I love Parlor. Gwen has given me the best haircut of my life! I have a lot of hair that can tend to go pyramid shaped without the right cut and products. Gwen revolutionized my hair with her cut and helping me to know what products to use and how to use them. NO MORE PYRAMID POWER! more

Parlor is definetly a cute laid-back space with a friendly staff and awesome scalp massages. Kimberly is my stylist and I always get a ton of compliments on my hair. She always gives good suggestions and pays attention to detail. Just found out Kim has moved to Laicale salon, so I'll be there soon. Pros: talented stylist, good suggestions more

Brilliant 9/11/2004

Parlor was reccomended to me by a fellow thick hair friend and was absolutely the business! I got an appointment for the day after I callled, friendly and effecient service and best of all a great hgaircut by Kimberly/Kim. Not only is stylish and flattering but it pays very specific attention to the texture and type of hair that i have. Never before have i had a cut that is so suited to my very heavy thick hair. I've just worn it up for years because there was too much of it and now i'm having a long hair rennaiscence. Pros: excellent hairdresser, great products, make up counter more

I have curl/wavy and fine hair that tends to be impossible to style. I went to Palor and had a cut with Kim on Friday and I love, love, love what she did. This place is a huge find. Smart, knowledgeable staff and friendly, stylish environment. more

It had been (ugh) a year since I could face going back to a salon for a haircut -- I ended up with Daniel and he was fabulous. No tricks or frisky styles that require much maintenance. Many many thanks -- I'll be back. more

Rude Staff at Parlor 2/4/2004

I arrived less than 15 minutes late for an appointment and the girl at the desk was extremely rude telling my that my stylist would not see me b/c I was too late despite the fact that I had to wait more than a half hour the last time I came in. When I pointed out the fact that I wasn't even 15 min. late she said ""sorry"" and went back to reading her book. I had gone to Parlor a few times before with mixed results and I will definitely not return. More skilled stylists and more accommodating staff can be found elsewhere. Cons: , Unaccommodating more

It's been nearly two years since I've had a proper haircut and I was really nervous about going to a salon again. But I had a really great experience at Parlor, it's very down to earth, and the people know hair! My stylist took the time to figure out what I had in mind and I walked out looking great and feeling confident. I will be going back! more

I went there hating my hair and having no idea of what kin dof cut I wanted. Kim, my stylist, took the time to speak with me and figure out exactly what worked with my hair and lifestyle. She was very nice and thorough and the salon atmosphere was relaxing and fun. I had a great experience and I have recommended it to all of my friends! couldnt be any happier 10/30/2003

I used to hate my hair, despise it, really. On a recommendation from a friend, I tried Parlor, and cannot tell you how much my feelings towards my hair have changed! I need something new, and thats exactly what I got. My stylist consulted with me until I felt totally comfortable, and gave me precisely as we had discussed. The atmosphere is great, (although there was one stylist running around frantically in the background)...but my stylist was very calm and cool on a busy friday night, which helped me to soothe my nerves. She was right on time, attentive, and talented. Who can ask for more! Trust me, I will never go to anyone else besides Carrie again! my first experience was a truly wonderful one. The atmosphere is so wonderful that you don't want to leave! It literaly smells of an aromatherapy spa!! Like many other people I was panicking over handing my hair to someone new, but the cut was exactly what I wanted, if not better. They can definently match a style if you bring a photo in. I LOVE Parlor 10/21/2003

I have been going to Parlor for two years and I have never been unhappy with my hair. I always have gone to Gina and the woman is amaaaaaaazing when it comes to highlights. I've sent my roommate and friends to her and no one is ever dissatisfied. And while its pricey, I trust them with my hair and it's worth every penny. Plus there is a really cute dog that hangs out there and the atmosphere is totally relaxing. One of my favorite places to go on a Sunday morning! I don't know who these people are with the bad reviews but obviously they need to go to supercuts and be quiet. more

They are so warm and friendly. Sarah is the greatest! A friend recommended the place (her hair cut/color always looked fabulous). I was extremely please with the color and cut. She took her time and matched exactly what I wanted. It's been six weeks and it still looks fantastic. more

parlor is terrific. relaxing atmosphere, great stylists, good value. very stylish and friendly staff, specifically jessabelle who really took a lot of time making sure my hair was suited to my lifestyle and showed me some great tricks for styling it myself. my boyfriend, who waited while I got highlights and a cut, said he especially liked the peppermint tea and honey in the waiting area. Pros: nice & friendly staff, good cuts and color, great atmophere Cons: nothing really! more

by the scathing reviews here. this place is great - nice people, good products, great atmosphere, warm staff. kerrie gives the BEST grow out haircut i've ever had, which only adds to the value. i don't have to see her every 3 months. in fact, my last cut was about 6 months ago... and it still looks fabulous! more

I am a regular at Parlor, and I love it! I never liked getting my haircut until I found this place. It is a very mellow place, and really makes you feel pampered. Every time I go there, I get a head massage as part of the cut. Kim is my hairdresser there, and I'd definitely recommend her. She makes good suggestions and listens to what you have to say. If you like to go in with a picture and get someone to do EXACTLY what you tell them to do, go here. If you are looking for a confident and knowledgeable stylist who will give you something that works well with you face and hair type, run! I am very easygoing about my hair, rarely (if ever) have been upset with a haircut. I usually defer to my stylist because I'm not a pro. This woman inspired no confidence. If I told her I wanted to shave it off but leave a little above my ears, she would tell me it was a fabulous idea. My hair looks awful, go somewhere else. Pros: cheap Cons: no skill or talent more

I don't know where these people went that rate Parlor badly. Perhaps they should go back to Supercuts and quit complaining. The prices for NYC are the best and the staff is perhaps the nicest and most well trained I have ever come across. If you ask the question, they'll answer. Sarah is now the only person I will go to and she was first and only experience there, in which I have repeated time and time again.
