Stay away from Nizza 7/23/2013

Waitress and waiter rude and condescending, a rip off for less than satisfactory food fish was frozen we sent it back came back still frozen \r they are not interested in your business is the feeling we got. Arrogance coupled with outrageous priced, small portions of under cooked fish and veal will keep us away from this place for good. more

Watch Out!! 1/19/2013

Watch it! We ordered shrimp scampi only to find it was five shrimp. We ordered a "side" of pasta to fill out the $12 entrada and were charged $14 for a cup of pasta with olive oil. Outrageous. After complaining, there waitress explained that she had no choice but to charge us for the pasta as an entire entree (as Pasta Marinera, even though it was just fettucini and olive oil). Complete rip off!! Food was OK, but nothing special. House wine was very expensive but good. more

Terrific for Gluten Free 3/7/2010

My wife is a celiac and we found this place online. It was delicious and we will return again. Large selection of GF items and the Socca - chickpea flour ""pizza"" crust was awesome!!! Nice wines, too. Service was lacking but earnest. Not a major issue. Reservations a must around theather time. Pros: Awesome GF and standard menu Cons: Service a little lacking more

keithk is right 12/6/2009

we just went there because we were staying in hells kitchen. we had such a bad experience I felt it was an opportunity to figure out which review site were accurate. I hate to ever judge a place on one bad experience but I am frustrated we wasted both our money and time here during our first visit to NY. Food was a bit bland (and it was boar lasagna!! - how do you make boar lasagna bland?). Pasta (hopefully was not but...) tasted like it was frozen or made incorrectly and overcooked. Service could have saved all the food - for sure. It did not. Saw him 3 times(wine order, food order, and bill). we filled our own wine and water, had to grab the waiter for the bill, and were never even asked if food was okay. Whatever, just disappointed at a place that has a great atmosphere and potential. Hopefully you take this into account or the owner sees it and starts managing his/her business. more

Delcious and affordable Italian-style food 3/23/2009

Surprisingly incredible food and great service! 2/6/2009

I have never been compelled to write a review for a restaurant before, but Nizza surprised me so much I felt compelled to. I stopped in one night with my father on a whim- we had a hankering for French or Italian comfort food. The place was a little crowded and we didn't have a reservation, but after getting through only half a drink at the bar, we were seated (the hostess was a little annoying, can't my finger on it, maybe she was upset with having to accommodate us when we said we didn't want to eat at the bar. Regardless, she still did her job professionally and got us to our seats). The waiter was a wonderfully attentive man, who promptly told us about the specials and offered us another glass of wine, seeing as how ours were near empty. For an appetizer I had their special chestnut soup with shrimp which one of the best dishes I have ever had in my life. The flavors were so incredibly distinct, yet they went together beautifully creating an incredibly delicious dish that should be a regular staple on their menu. My father had oysters and they were, if nothing special, still scrumptious. For an entree I had the butternut squash ravioli which, again, was out of this world. It was a little heavy, and fairly sweet, but so good I ate every last bite (even when I thought I could eat no more, I stuffed it in somehow!). For dessert we had a flourless chocolate cake which can honestly never be bad and a cosmo-type of cocktail that ended things perfectly. Our water glasses were never empty, our server was attentive, without being pushy and the food was amazing. The ambience was nothing special, but nonetheless, the experience greatly exceeded our expectations! Pros: Food, Specials, Service Cons: Crowded tables, ambience (though not terrible!) more

avoid - bad stuff for unsuspecting people 9/21/2008

four of us dining, and all four meals were terrible. miserable. soggy pasta, heavy heavy on the cheese, probably not the wine i asked for (but i'm not absolutely sure). tasteless food, no respite. better food at local pizza places, i am serious. more

Love the Food! 8/6/2008

I'm a huge fan of Marseille, so had to try Nizza (same owners) and it did not disappoint. The food is great and well priced. Had drinks, appetizers, a great arugula salad and one person in our group had the lasagna. All were good. And, our wait person was extremely nice! Pros: good food, near theater more

such bad service 6/11/2008

having worked for years in the restaurant industry, i can honestly say i had some of the worst service ive ever had here. the place wasnt overly busy, definetly not full. our server was a nightmare. she was chatting with the host the entire time and neglected us. we got our appetizers before she even delivered our first round drinks. really which was the loss of the restaurant because they lost out on the second beverage sale. i know the place is new...but this is new york. theres great food everywhere. i want service i can enjoy when im out not the kind where id rather get up and get my drink myself from the bar. the food was ok nothing too special. the service alone though...ill never go back. more

Awesome food, hip and beautiful room 3/8/2008

I can't tell you how overjoyed my husband and I and all our friends are to have Nizza in the neighborhood. The food is absolutely fantastic- especially the lasagna pesto, branzino fillet, bibb salad, socca (a chickpea pancake thing), and the teleggio-fig panino. Anyone who says this food isn't incredible is out of their minds. The fact that we can eat so well and so inexpensively in a gorgeous, hip room has made us stay in the neighborhood to eat when we normally would head downtown. We love that it's open til 2 am most nights- it's so nice to not feel rushed when we eat after a show. And it's the best spot to meet friends and share food- I've already been to 3 birthday dinners there. The staff is great- polite and fast but not intrusive. And do yourself a favor and try the brunch- it's the best and most interesting in HK. Long live Nizza! Pros: Delicious food, great space, late hours Cons: No delivery yet! more

ITIALIAN FOOD WITH GREAT TASTE 2/25/2008

I live a few blocks from this restaurant and come here at least once a month. It's not really authentic italian food, it's got a bit of french fusion. It's a trendy place, esp for hell's kitchen and a great place for a first date because it's a nice place and the menu is priced right as well as the wine. Everything i've had here has been great, I forgot the name but I always get this spinach ravioli which is great if you like cheesy sauce. The steak is absolutely delicious and so tasty. I've only had the Bree cheese for dessert and it was fantastic, the warm raisin bread that comes with the cheese is really good! Pros: trendy, tasty food, great prices Cons: you haven't been there yet! more

Horrible food 2/15/2008

My boyfriend and I went here on Valentine's day pre theater. This place left my boyfriend with a stomach ache so bad, we had to leave the show during intermission. Pros: fairly inexpensive Cons: everything else more

Great Food, Wine & Atmosphere - Priced Right 1/16/2008

I went to Nizza for the third time last night and once again it did not disappoint! I am so glad this cozy new place is in my neighborhood now. It is my new favorite spot! The wines are all excellent and most priced under $10. The food is outstanding. I love that this place is great for just a drink date, some light tapas or to enjoy dinner at. The waitstaff and management are all very friendly and quick. I was hesitant to write a review because I want to keep this place a secret as right now I can usually get a table no problem. I hope places like this start to become the norm: great food, wine & ambiance without killing your wallet. Pros: Price, Wines, Food, Tapas - Amazing Service Cons: Small... on popular nights prob difficult to get a table. more

Excellent Service, Excellent Food, Excellent Wine! 11/27/2007

This restaurant is definitely worth trying! You will be impressed with the asthetic and the relaxed but superb service. The wine list is impecable and Nizza has wines by the glass that many places do not have. The food is interesting and delicious. The pansoti, the tomato soup, the kobe beef panini, and the proscuitto crostini are to die for. The brunch menu is just as amazing. The prices are astounding in relation to the quality of the food. One of New York's best new restaurants. Pros: Dinner, brunch, wine list, service more

A Great Addition to the Neighborhood 11/20/2007

I was very excited to try Nizza, as Marseille is my favorite neighborhood spot. Dinner was great. The room is beautiful and hip, with casually dressed servers who were very enthusiastic. The menu was large, interesting and very reasonably priced. The manager helped us find a beautiful bottle of Barbera D'Asti that we loved. Overall, can't wait to be back. Definitely a great addition to the Hell's Kitchen dining scene. Pros: Ambience, wine list, service more

OK Place 11/10/2007

Nizza has a casual, simple atmosphere. The food is decent, but not spectacular. Price are also OK, but you end up spending a more than you'd think given the affordable-looking menu with drinks and the tapas style dishes. The wait service is a little slow, but it just opened, so I'm sure it will get better. My husband loved a pizza with goat cheese. I had pumpkin soup that tasted like it was from a can, and the toasted ravioli reminded me of those arepas from street fairs. The wine list was well-edited and a good price range. Next door is a place called Marseille that's owned by the same people, and it's much better. But I'm hoping after the kinks are worked out of this place, it improves. Pros: casual atmosphere, wine list has affordable options Cons: service isn't consistent, food is just average, no brunch more

  • The interplay of culinary influences in the foods of the French and Italian Rivieras provides a starting point for the Nizza experience. Nizza, after all, is what the Italians call the French city of Nice, which still boasts a wealth of tradition from the days when it lay within the borders of Italy. For inspiration, we start in the city of Nice and travel the short distance east until crossing into the Italian region of Liguria. The building blocks of out cuisine can be found in abundance all along this rich coastal corridor. We hope you enjoy our exploration of the soul satisfying piece of paradise.

The trip from Marseille to Nice (""Nizza"" to the Italians) is about 100 miles. But in the Theater District, it's only about 20 feet--Nizza's chef Andy D'Amico does double duty...
