This place was once great. It was Zagat's number one Vietnamese in NYC. This was when it was called Vietnam. It's been through a change of name and a chnage or two in ownership...

Listen...Do You Want To Know A Secret 6/22/2005

The Doyers Vietnamese Restaurant (formerly known as Vietnam) is, all things considered, my favorite restaurant. It is hidden in the basement of an old building in a secluded street in Chinatown. However, if you find it, prepare to be wowed. The service cannot be beat. Everybody from the host to the waiters to the cooks are class acts all the way. The restaurant itself is very charming, with beautiful vietnamese paintings on the walls. The entire scene is classy without being intimidating. The food is truly the stuff of dreams. Everything that I've had (I've gone through almost the entire menu by now) is outstanding, from appetizers (the shrimp summer rolls are to die for) to the main course (the lemon grass chicken on a bed of lettuce is my simple favorite) to desert (homemade ice cream and sweet vietnamese coffee), everything is among the best I've ever had in the category. You have not lived until you've tried the slow drip, sweet vietnamese coffee. And, to top it all off, the prices are more than fair. It's much cheaper than many other, less satisfying asain dining options. Here's to you, Doyers Vietnamese Restaurant! more
