Collectors items on travel and lots of interesting subjects 6/9/2006

I was in the store recently and realized the store no longer carries new travel guides. The store's new focus is on antiquarian and hard-to-find titles, which makes it a terrific place for collectors, historians or those simply looking for a gift for their scholarly friends or loved ones. The entire world is on display, and they also carry interesting signed first editions and books I never knew existed. This is a bookstore and small mom and pop business worth supporting, and the selection is first rate. more

Don't forget to actually travel 5/28/2006

I used to date someone who collected travel books. Not intentionally, and not from going on trips either, he was just the sort that liked to plan them out. Clearly, if I had introduced him to this store, he would have moved in. Every guide book you can imagine as well as maps. Everything you need to go on actual or virtual trips. more

Travel books 11/6/2005

They sell travel books. In fact they sell all the travel books. Anywhere in the world you have a fancy for they will have the book. They sell new, out of print, antiquarian books all about travel. I do have one question. Why would anyone want a travel book from 1976 when all the information in the book will most likely be outdated? more

For those who love to travel 8/19/2005

The name of the bookstore is Complete Traveller, and it really is comprehensive, just as the name suggests, and probably the best of its kind in the city. You can find practically any book related to travel here, and the store's staff qualify as experts. If you're serious about your travels, it's worth the trip down to Madison Avenue to check this out. more

go around the world 8/5/2005

I love this store. When I worked nearby, I liked to go and browse after work. The store is divided into two halves. The front half is dedicated to current travel books to destinations all over the world. The second half has antiquarian travel books (both fact and fiction). I drooled over a copy of “A history of New York” by Dietrich Knickerbocker for weeks but was never able to afford it. I highly recommend supporting it if you're looking for a regular travel book, as well, but at the least, try and walk by because the window display is ever-changing and ever-fascinating. more
