Yes, it’s a really, really impressive statue, but getting to the island and back will take a third of your day, and the payoff simply doesn’t justify that cost. You’ll spend an ho...

Be a Tourist in your Own City 8/29/2005

If you like being on the water, and want to do something different and stay cool, take a Circle Line tour around Manhattan and especially around Liberty Island and Ellis Island. The running commentary is actually very educational and interesting and you will likely meet alot of interesting folks from around the country and around the world. It's a bare bones trip, ok for comfort, but you will probably be standing around the railing for most of the trip anyway. Food/snacks are available, but either take something of your own or plan to go eat afterwards more

Every American should see the Statue of Liberty when visiting New York. This symbol freedom is a sight to see up close. Note that you can not access the crown any more. You can still see the inside of the statue through a glass ceiling. On the observation deck you will be able to see the harbor as well as Manhattan island. more

good sites, but overcrowed 8/15/2005

It's a major tourist attraction, so expect to wait on long lines and expect to see many children along with the whole family. Past that, you'll enjoy the boat ride over to see the statue of liberty. It's really a quick trip over there. The promenade is tbe best, and it will cost you about 12 bucks or so, which isn't so bad. The children prices are about one third of the price which makes it a pretty good ride. The circle lines runs from either liberty state park in NJ or in battery park, which is pretty convenient. You can also schedule and book in advance so that you can make sure you get on the earlier tours of the day. The afternoon tours are also good, but usually are booked first. It's very family friendly, and a good place to bring the kids to see the statue of liberty. Other than the tourists, you'll definitely have a good time. more
