Best

I used to go there with my best friend every Sat night. I still go there occasionally!

Worst

Good place for a late emergency bite. Not a bad place to stop by for a quick bite at 2AM, when all other restaurants in Soho are already closed. Pros: open late Cons: food...

don't bother 1/17/2010

Came here for Sunday brunch - place looked cute and was pretty empty. But the service was terrible and the bartender rude and obnoxious. After about 20 mins he turned the TV onto a football game and proceeded to have a really loud overbearing conversation with one guy sitting at the bar. If we knew it was going to be a sportsbar we wouldn?t have picked here. Food took ages to arrive. The bread was stale, my eggs were cold and the salad was dripping in oil. My partner ordered the burger sliders and they were dry and looked terrible. There are much better options in Soho. Pros: cute interior Cons: bad service, poor food more

At least the drinks and the manager are yummy 12/18/2008

My friends and I usually go to this place at least once a week. Though we don't always eat here, we love the drinks, and the crowd. The few times we have had dinner here, I've found the waitresses to be rude and arrogant. The African American girl can be quite flippant, and almost behaves as if you are putting at her at an inconvenience when you ask for something. Pros: Cute French Manager, great drinks, fun crowd Cons: rude wait staff more

Place to be on Grand 5/19/2008

Quick tapas, a wide selection of people to grace your presence, in a relaxed atmosphere...all good when you are in SOHO. Pros: international selection of beautiful laidback people Cons: smallllllllllllllllllllllllll more

Miss Marcello! 4/9/2008

I use to love this spot because Marcello use to always be such a great host...the current manager is kind of rude ... the food and ambiance still rocks though! more

BAD SERVICE 4/7/2008

I went there with a friend who is also a waitress... The Hostess was rude and pretentious, as well as the waitress... Pros: Food, cocktails Cons: SERVICE more

Love it! Good days! 4/5/2008

Customers cheated and threatened 1/20/2008

Went there recently and was charged for orders we did not place. We asked the african american waitress to clarify and void. She told us we were lying and proceeded to call the manager. The manager lady insisted that we placed the orders and said ""I always side with my staff, NOT the customers"". She then told us she would call the cops if we did not pay up. The bartender butted in and told us to GET OUT of the place (after we had paid of course). For an order of $12, this place not only lost customers but have also earned our wrath. We want to spread the word to as many people as possible. Cons: Threaten consumers more

Rude and Pretentious Staff 1/7/2008

Went here on a Saturday night with a buddy and was denied service at the bar because, according to the pretentious, faux-intellectual French bartender, we lacked ""class""! To be fair, we had been drinking elsewhere and there was some confusion about our initial order, which we returned. However, just because the lazy bartender has been a little inconvenienced should not be a reason to completely deny service. If we were talking a little too loud or something, an appropriate and ""classy"" response would be to explain this as opposed to getting into a huff and pouting. Why should I be made to feel like it is some kind of privilege to be in your restaurant? It's not like this is some exclusive place packed with celebrities. more

Awful service and too hot! 9/10/2007

Went here on Saturday night for a friends birthday and were a party of 6. Overall, I'd say the food was pretty good, with the exception of the steak tartar that contained pieces of steak that were just way too chunky. Aside from the decent food and drinks, the real 2 problems of the night were how HOT it was in the actual restaurant and how AWFUL the service was. Judging from the editorial review of this place, they pride themselves on ""flinging open"" the windows. That's nice if it's a cool breezy summer night... not a sweltering humid one! There is an AC unit on the wall near the bathrooms which they had on but what good does that do if the windows to the whole joint are wide open? The only people that got to enjoy the affects of the AC were the 5 or so tables seated near it which you couldn't pay me to sit in those seats because everyone is standing on line around your table waiting for the bathrooms that are right there staring at you eat! The service is just plain awful here. I really hope that the manager that wrote a review on here actually is reading these other reviews and is taking them into account because honestly, the service is pretty close to one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Our waitress was basically non existant. The poor bus boy was doing ALL the work! We had to chase the waitress down every time we wanted a drink refill, never came by to take our order so we had to chase again after 20 min and it seemed like she has a serious attitude problem. They were putting the food on the table and not watching where they were placing it and were knocking the bowls of olive oil over. One of the dishes we ordered was the seafood paella and they didn't even bring a bowl over for the shells! Worst yet, on the bill they had the nerve to add 20% gratuity! Most places that include gratuity it's only 18%- tops. I don't mind paying for good service, but she sucked! Hope she tipped the bus boy out well b/c he was the one deserving of a tip. Pros: most food was pretty decent Cons: SERVICE, too hot and cramped, steak tartar more

Doesn't even deserve one star! 8/2/2007

I was there last night with a friend from out of town to show them a true NY experience and the bartender was rude and just plain awful! Not what I had in mind. The food was good. Would've ordered more food if it weren't for him. I would never ever go there in a million years. Attention all New Yorkers if you want horrible and rude service this is the place to go to!!! There a hundreds of other places in the city to go to this guy made you feel like it was a privelege for you to sit at the bar. more

Great find in SoHo!! 4/5/2007

My friend was staying with me in SoHo last night and told me about this great place Cafe Noir. The three of us decided to go for some tapas and wine since we wanted to do something low key on Wednesday. This place is great!! All of the tapas we ordered were great, especially loved the hummus and the grilled veggie pizza. The ambiance is great.. a little romantic for going with just friends. There were couples all around us making out. A great date place though from what I could see!! We will definitely be back! Pros: great tapas, wine, sangria Cons: only can pay in cash or with amex more

fun spot! 3/8/2007

went here with a couple friends, a fun spot, even on a random week night! music was loud (so a bit annoying if you're trying to have a conversation) and drinks were great (but a little too expensive)...all in all a fun spot, if you want to spend about $40 per person. really nice staff!! more

From the General manager 2/21/2007

My name is Greg and i have been in charge of Cafe Noir for more than one year. I want to give my customers a special time when they come to my place, that's why i often come on city search to know what people liked or disliked. It helps us a lot to improve our weakness so we will be able to give you a better service, a better food, a better ambiance and you will come back with pleasure. In the past people seemed to come more for the atmosphere and the food than service. It seems by reading the reviews that people are now looking for a better service which is something i would be working on. Pros: music.neighbourhood.bar scene.food Cons: working on better service more

HORRIBLE SERVICE 7/13/2006

At one point this place was tolerable. The food quality has gone downhill in the past 2 years. more

I'VE BEEN GOING HERE FOR YEARS!! :) 6/17/2006

Always a fun place ... the food is deeelish! The staff isn't the friendliest or most competent, and I am stickler for service, but everything else about this place makes up for it. Great for groups, great for a date, great for early brunch or a nightcap. Another great place to take out-of-towners! :) Pros: music, drinks, food Cons: service not always great more

great wait staff 6/10/2006

Delicious food, nice vibe and good service. Pros: good ambience, great waitresses Cons: croweded bar more

Great Potential, Terrible Staff 5/21/2006

I like Cafe Noir dont get me wrong, it is jsut that the people who work there are evil and incompetent!! The service was terrible, we had to wait for everything and ask several of different people for the same thing before we were ""allowed"" to be served. The waitress, seems to be more concerned of looking good than actually waitressing. After dinner the manager grabbed my boyfriend, asked him: Where are you from...maybe you dont know how things work in America...and in the end stormed away almost teareyed yelling that tips are the only thing they survive on. We did tip, I guess the model/waitress just wanted more and complained to the manager. The whole set up is truly unprofessional and I wish Cafe Noir would get some good staff, because despite the current one this is a great place. Pros: music, interior, drinks Cons: bitchy staff, poor service, too crowded bar more

Terrible service 4/7/2006

Three of us went to Cafe Noir on the hottest day of the summer last year. We were seated at a table where there was no ventillation at all. Upon using their bathroom (btw, don't) I found that the other side of the restaurant was air condtioned and there were a few empty tables. Before our food arrived I asked our waitress if we could be moved and she just stared blankly at me. I asked her again slowly and she said she needed to ask her manager. Why? I don't know because she never came back. By then our appetizers arrived and we just picked everything up and moved ourselves. We were so annoyed we ended up going somewhere else for dinner. Needless to say, our waitress didn't get a tip. I love SoHo and having a good time, but come here for drinks and then move on. Cons: Clueless staff, Don't expect service more

Incredible Restaurant 4/7/2006

Cafe Noir is a great place to go with friends or on a date. The food selection is vast and all of the tapas we tried were excellent. The Sangria is some of the best in the city. The only complaint I had was we went in early fall and it was a warm day but the restaurant did not turn on the air. Pros: Food , Sangria, Ambience more

Great night!!! 8/25/2005

My friends and I showed up on a Sat. night without a reservation, we had to wait at the bar for a little while, but the manager was so nice and made our wait a great experience. Bar was a little bit crowded, but these five girls know how to have fun!! it was a little hard to understand the waitress and she seemed to have little patience with our questions. We had to ask the manager and he was very helpful.Food was great and so was music! We will come back!!! Pros: Crowded, waitress Cons: food, music, party more
