Best

I used to go there with my best friend every Sat night. I still go there occasionally!

Worst

Good place for a late emergency bite. Not a bad place to stop by for a quick bite at 2AM, when all other restaurants in Soho are already closed. Pros: open late Cons: food...

SUMMA in the Citay 6/29/2005

I love Cafe Noir because it is the perfect balance of an outdoor bohemian cafe and a soho-scene. The sangria and the mojitos are to die for and the staff is flaky but friendly. There is no place better on a humid summer night with friends... Pros: drinks, location, atmosphere Cons: crowded more

Never Again 3/20/2005

I used to love this place, but after last night I will never go there again. The food was awful, the service was even worse. The waiter was clueless, the food was overcooked, even the busboys were confused. This place used to have the best hanger steak in town but the only thing we found appealing was the water. more

I wouldn't waste my time again 2/13/2005

I went with a large group on Friday night...we had a 9:30 reservation. We arrived at approximately 9:15 to have a drink at the bar. The bar was crowded with other people waiting to be seated for their reservations. It became impossible to stand and have a drink or any type of conversation. After waiting an hour and a half, we were finally seated at 11:00. Once seated, we ordered...the food came rather quickly and now I know why...it wasn't good. I had a blue cheese burger that was dry and tasteless. Other people I was with said the same thing. One friend had the steak which he didn't care for, but after waiting so long to be seated he was hungry. I would say stay away from this place unless you don't mind waiting Pros: ambiance, male bartender Cons: everything else more

late night bite 8/24/2004

this place is dark and busy and open nice and late. food is totally reasonable and really good. i recommend their burger with goat cheese on it - phenominal (fries are really good too). they have some tuna app i love too. i actually frequent there a lot. one thing though is that the waitstaff is really really bad - they are totally flighty, foreign and usually too concerned with looking cool and flirting with each other. drinks take forever to come and youre never quite sure the waitress even retained what you said. be smart and order a new drink even if you arent done with the one you have. food is def worth it though and is what brings be back constantly. its a fun environment and they play good music as well. Pros: open late, fair prices, good food more

Terrible Service 8/23/2004

This was without a doubt the worst dinning experience I have had in New York. The wait staff was very rude and intrusive. Do not go to this restaurant unless you want to over pay for below average Mediterranean food and deal with a creepy waiter. more

Great for groups. 6/17/2004

Busy. Crowded. Sexy. Great for large groups and celebrations - our SUPER HAPPY waiter was the entertainment of the evening. Wouldn't have it any other way... made great recommendations and gave out group the full treatment. Food was average but tasty. Dessert - can't be missed, so save room!!! Pros: Large groups, Lively more

Bartender was awful! 6/6/2004

The bartender on my most recent visit was so incredibly rude that I will never go back. He asked if we wanted change when we paid him for our pitcher of Sangria & we asked for a couple of dollars back (gave him $30 for $25 pitcher- still leaving him w/ $3 tip) he laughed & said are you serious, then got us the change & put it on the bar & asked us if we were from out of town. No. Then asked if there was a problem with the sangria. No. He stood there looking us up & down & then walked away. We were still sitting at the bar while we drank the sangria, but facing away from the bar & when we turned back around, the $2 was gone & the people next to us said the bartender took it. So rude. Pros: Atmosphere, Good food, good sangria more

Horrid Service - Good Space 5/16/2004

Yes, the service is really that bad. The wanna be model wait staff are not exactly shining stars at what they do so if you go there, you'll have to deal. But staff aside, it's a great place for an afternoon drink. Went on a sunny Sunday and although the DJ was playing music way too loud for a normal conversation, you can scoot in w/ your party and shout. Felt like I was in Capri for a minute w/ the open doors and Euro feel. Recommend having a buzz on if you check this place out so as not be annoyed by the waitstaff. Pros: Ambience more

WORST BAR SERVICE EVER 5/2/2004

I went to meet friends for happy hour the other day and the service was soooo horrible and blatantly rude that we left - the first time I have ever left a place because of the service - and it was not just me - there were at least 5-7 of us all standing around this small bar trying to get a drink for 30 minutes or more - the bartender would look at me (or others) and we would say what we wanted- and then for fun - he wouldnt make it - it was almost comical - except that was soo blatantly rude. By far the worst restaurant/bar in the city that I have been too - and Ive been to lots of bars and restaurants in the city.... more

Worst Service In The World 4/2/2004

This place isn't all bad: the music is good and the locaiton is fun. The service/management leaves much to be desired, however. They have the attitude that you are lucky to be served by them. Last time I was there, a very high-strung man kicked us off of our table since he said we'd been there too long--meanwhile two out of three of us weren't finished yet. We probably would have happily paid and left had he been congenial about it, but he was oddly-confrontational from the outset. Bottom line: If you want to pay absurd prices for horrible service and mediocre (over-salted) food, this is where you should go. Pros: good music, beautiful people, nice location Cons: , overpriced, mediocre food more

Open late! 7/2/2003

Good place for a late emergency bite. Not a bad place to stop by for a quick bite at 2AM, when all other restaurants in Soho are already closed. Pros: open late Cons: food is so-so, service is slow more

Great fun and good food 5/3/2003

I loved dining at Cafe Noir. Although the service is lacking, everything else was so great that it didn't really bother me. I went with two friends and we ordered a bunch of Tapas, all of which were amazing. The shrimp cigar, avocado hummus, beet salad and spanish quesadilla were all amazing. The atmosphere is great as well and it feels like you are dinig in Spain. The whole experience was a lot of fun and I will definitely be going back. Pros: food, atmosphere more

Great Package All Around 1/27/2003

I've eaten here on several occasions. The service , food and staff is great. It's great to bring a first date or a group of friends. The atmosphere is lively with great music in the background. Highly recommend it! Pros: inexpensive more

Worst Place Ever 1/5/2003

Went to this place as a fallout from Naked Lunch's long line...and thought maybe I could find a good time across the street. Very, very wrong. Our party was assaulted by the manager after a discrepancy with the bill. He hooted and hollered -- and told every staff person at the bar, not to serve us. He then preceded to give us the evil eye until we were so uncomfortable we were forced to leave. Very unprofessional. I'll never return. Pros: location Cons: weak drinks, poor management, very little room more

Great party place! 12/18/2002

Cafe Noir has a great atmosphere for hanging out with friends, having a party, and having a great time! Drinks are great, especially sangria. Food is also quite good, gotta try the pizza appetizer. Pros: food, ambience, crowd more

Sexy, loud, crowded 11/4/2002

Very good happy hour/fall back place. The steak with fries is great, and I love dipping bread on olive oil w/ balsamic vinegar... lots of sexy elements. Some people here are rather arrogant but it perfectly captures the neighborhood's spirit. Hard to get a table... great atmosphere. The paella isn't impressive but do try their tapas degustation platter. Pros: atmosphere Cons: crowded more

YUM 10/7/2002

Tried to find a place with good food, prices fit for a grad student, and fun! While those places are few are far between, Cafe Noir has something for everyone, and all at deliciously reasonable prices. Everything we ordered was yummy, and we all left there satified. Good for groups, and fun! more

Oh So Good! 9/27/2002

Took some friends for lunch and we all agree that it's been a long time since we've been this impressed with a restaraunt. The food is great, the portions are healthy, the price is right, the staff is friendly and I especially like the hassle free helping of three baskets of delicious bread accompanied by a superb garlic oil for dipping. Pros: Inexpensive, Great food, Healthy Portions more

Yang Yang Strikes Back! 6/13/2002

Hey all you silly billies out there! Ok, can i just tell you something? Cafe Noir is definately not the most shi shi place in New York, but nestled near the Holland Tunnel is a surprise gem! At first, I seriously thought my boyfriend was taking me to some cheap spanish/morrocan bungalow and get served chicken and potatoes, Pooooooh. Horr-rri-ble! Well, the service was awesome. I asked for the waitress' recommendation (as always) and she recommended the glass of water with ice over the plain glass of water. That was soooo helpful! Well, once again I was unable to finish the paella and ended up taking it home ( I filled up on delicious fried brie and duck)- Meow Meow. Hehe, I've just been looking for new, cute places to go to. I will definately go again sometime I say! Bye silly billies!!! No! yoouuuu Shush! Pros: Nice ambiance, Large Menu, Full Bar Cons: Can be a bit noisy, Desserts Mediocre, A little crowded more

Unique Dinner/Drink Spot 6/10/2002

Unique atmosphere and pretty good food. Great for a romantic dinner or with a group of close friends! Pros: Big Menu, Large Selection, Romantic Cons: Can be a bit noisy more
