Best

I love their vanilla cream puffs-- I have yet to try another flavor but they have a great selection and great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Best cream puffs in the city. 7/19/2006

I am a huge fan of Beard Papa's cream puffs- they're light and fluffy, and the cream inside- cold, sweet, and almost too delicious to believe. The place is very trend, full of wild, bright colors, and while the prices can be a bit high (though the salads here are average-priced I think), the food is absolutely delicious, and the service is wonderful. The only downside is the location. It's not exactly located at a scenic area of Manhattan; the street outside is busy and hectic; not the ideal spot for lunch. But go for the food! more

Me want some cweam puffs!!! 4/13/2006

Fluffy, flaky, soft and creamy. You can't have just one cream puff. You will drool for another and another and.. okay so it's very good. Made fresh daily, these are a bang for your buck. They also have specials like green tea or chocolate filling. They also have light snacks, sandwiches and tea. Get on the line and try them! You will not regret it ;) more

good eats 3/27/2006

This place has it all: from actual japanese food, to shakes, and the best cream puffs ever. Isn't it amazing that when people wander into a Beard Papa's, they can actually decide that they want lunch rather than dessert? Beard Papa's has great rice wraps, udon, and mango smoothies.Try it once just to say that you've tried it. You won't regret it. Actually a friend was complaining about my misleading review, since it appears only the Beard Papa's on 40-something St. has food, and that Beard Papa's is actually just the bakery part. I will get back to you once I look into this. more

Beard Papa 3/24/2006

The jury is still out on this place. With a really weird, bearded cartoon man billboard hanging right above the store (scaring customers away), and an oddly (yellow?) decorated interior (mixing modern with the 70's?), this place has an odd assortment of foods to pick from (salads and cream puffs), which still leaves me feeling confused about this place. The cream puffs/deserts here are supposed to be amazing, but I've had a mixed experience: the eclairs and cream puffs with traditional vanilla filling were pretty hohum. The cream puffs I had filled with mocha cream, however, were delicious. Go and check it out for yourself. more

Stuff These Puffs Into Your Mouth 1/16/2006

At Beard Papa's half the fun is watching them stuff each crunchy puff with whipped cream custard after each and every order. These delectable Japanese cream puffs are made daily and with a great deal of effort -- it takes them two hours to prepare their custard and they do this several times a day! One would hope with so much work going into cream puffs that the end result would be worth it and, in this case, it is. These cream puffs are moutr wateringly delicious. The only trick is you should eat them immediately after ordering since there's no preservatives in them which, while healthy, doesn't give them much of a shelf life. more

cream puffs and more! 8/14/2005

If you've never had a japanese creme puff, then I'd definitely go and get one! They come in either singles or you can order a pack of 6. They also have green tea flavored creme puffs as well. The creme inside is not sweet, but very semi-sweet. I usually get full after 1 creme puff, which needs to be eaten immediately since they are made fresh. The store carries coffee, and other treats as well, but they are known for their creme puffs. The green creme puffs are good too, but they have a sort of bitter taste. I think the originals are better to tell you the truth. Go in and give it a try and you'l love it. They are also cheap too! Definitely a New York bargain. more
