Can't get my wedding gown back from this cleaner. GONE! 6/17/2010

For anyone who is in the same boat, cleaners are gone and have garments inside, I just went into the Better Business Bureau and file a complain against this business. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there like me who has personal belongings in this cleaner. I don't know what the next step is, but I'm starting with the BBU. All I want is my wedding gown and vails back, that's something I can't replace. I guess the next step will be to go to police and file a complain. Somebody doesn't want to be found. more

Know how to get in touch with the owner?! Store moved!!!! 6/4/2010

I've gone back and forth with the owner of Aphrodite for almost 2 weeks now, trying to get my dry cleaning back. They didn't have it ready on time, then I went back a few days later, and the store had moved! It was totally shut down. I have the following #'s for the store: 212.481.2838 and 917.345.7227...I've been able to reach someone a few times, with promises of delivery, and then they never come. Most of the time, the mailboxes are full. Does anyone know a different number or where the new store moved to or anyone I can reach? I have loads of clothes with these guys! I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks... Cons: Moved locations with ALL my dry cleaning! more

WORST CLEANERS EVER!!! 3/30/2010

THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE!!!! NEVER USE THEM!!!\r I dropped off a beaded dress to be cleaned in early Nov. 2009. I was told it would be ""hand"" cleaned, not to worry, and it would be delivered Nov 15.2009. It was returned to me Nov 27, 2009. I didn't notice until a week later that a row of sequins on the front of the dress was missing. I brought it back on Dec 15. 2009 to be fixed and was told i would have it by by Dec 27 - they would buy new beads to replace the ones THEY LOST and fix it. (i was planning on wearing it New Years). 12/28 i called, no dress...was told it would be done and delivered by 12/30. 12/31- still no dress, called and told it would be done by the next week. I called pretty much every week of January and was told it was being worked on. Finally in the first week in february i got a hold of the owner (after being told he was going to call back 2 times before and never did). He got on the phone and was a complete ass and said i didnt give him the right beads to fix it- after i yelled back and said i was told that THEY would buy the beads since it was his cleaners that ruined my dress, he got all defensive and said oh sorry i didnt know that. how could they not have told him!! plus they had lied to me all month saying it was being ""fixed"". he said he would have to buy the beads and get it to me within 2 weeks. Flash forward to today, March 29,2010- still no dress, still have not heard back from the owner after i left more than 5 messages for him. I called today and they said it wasnt fixed yet. So I told them to please have the dress delivered to me today and let the owner know i will tell every person and every website about how horrible they are and if he wants to prevent me from doing so he can finally return my call.. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! RUINED MY DRESS!!!! WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! \r Cons: ruined my dress, terrible customer service more

AVOID THIS PLACE 3/27/2010

AVOID!!!! This place is awful. The owner is a mess and quite shady and the girl that works there is incompetent. I dropped a few things off there and they consistently promised me delivery dates that hey never fulfilled on time. BUT MORE RECENTLY - I had to DROP BY EVERYDAY ASKING FOR ALMOST A MONTH ASKING FOR MY CLOTHES. There phone number was disconnected so I couldn't even just call. SHADY! Then I finally I come in one day and the owner looks like a freakin' mess with a sweatshirt unzipped and nasty chest hair showing - tells me his car got stolen and my clothes are in his car. I ask for reimbursement (plus I prepaid for the dry cleaning!!!) He says to give him receipt and he will submit to insurance. At this point the guy seems so f&^K*& shady that I don't trust him. We get into a swearing match and he tells me his doesn't give a S*&# about my clothes and he has thousand of clothes to worry about. Unbelievable! I mean it's his job to care about my clothes and do the work I paid for...right? So I filed a complaint and case to Better Business Bureau and will fight this guy. AGAIN I REPEAT --- Save yourself time, money and hassle and AVOID this cleaner. They are AWFUL and with LOSE YOUR CLOTHES AND TREAT YOU POORLY. They deserve ZERO stars but that was not an option for me. Cons: AWFUL SERVICE and SHADY OWNER more

LOST WEDDING GOWN 9/20/2009

THEY LOST MY WEDDING GOWN & VEIL! When I first dropped off my ceremony gown, reception gown & veil, I was told the service would take several months as one of the gowns was vintage and needed preservation services. I started calling after 4 months as I had not heard, and was continually told to call back in another month...that they weren't complete, and not to worry. Finally, I get a call over a year after I dropped them off that they were complete and I could go p/u. When I got there, I was told that they couldn't FIND my ceremony gown/veil, AND the vintage reception gown was still not done...it was actually hanging there uncovered!! They told me once again they would let me know when it was complete. After several MORE months of poor customer service and total disregard, I contacted the owner, who actually told me that they were no longer responsible for the mistake because the items had been there so long!!!! He also tried to blame it on me that his employees kept telling me to call back AND claimed that I had lied and not called in. This was after several in-person visits in ADDITION to my multiple calls! After more than a year and a half, I removed my vintage reception gown from them STILL UNCLEANED, and have yet to get my other items. Even though my initials and wedding date are sewn into the inside of my gown, they still lost it. \r I had used this cleaner in the past and loved them. Not sure what changed, but the service is horrible now. The owner seems to be the worst - I wish I could deal with the nice ladies that actually do the tailoring again! \r They lost possibly the MOST sentimental piece of clothing a girl can own...that can never be replaced! But to add insult to injury and actually BLAME the customer is beyond ridiculous!\r Cons: HORRIBLE customer service more

CAN'T BELIEVE THIS PLACE IS IN BUSINESS!!! I brought some of my husband's shirts and jackets to be cleaned and they were ALL damaged!!!!! The worst is I wanted the cleaning dropped off so I paid in advance. They dropped it off without a word, I called when I discovered the damage and was told quite rudely that the clothes were fine when they were dropped off so my doorman must have done it!!! WORST EXPERIENCE 5/20/2008

They are dishonest and out of the three items I sent them--one was damaged beyond repair and the other wasn't even cleaned. I sent two coats and a dress. The dress came back tie-dyed in the body of the dress and ripped--the sleeves were ok so when they sent it back they put the dress between the two coats so that it was not immediately visible. When I opened it up and saw it and called them, not only did they refuse to refund the cost of cleaning the dress they also would not reimburse me for the dress that was ruined. The person on the phone was also very rude. I asked to speak to the owner of the business and left my number. He called me back and was even more rude. He admitted to turning the body of the dress into a tie-dyed mess and said sometimes that happens. He said the only thing he could do was give me a discount on future cleaning! Can you believe that? So if you want your clothes ruined and deal with dishonest, rude people--aphrodite french cleaners is the way to go! Cons: dishonest, rude and they damage your clothes more

Terrible Customer Service, Poor Quality of Work 8/7/2007

This dry cleaner was recommended for expert wedding dress preservation. They even have a newspaper article in their window starting this, as well as several wedding dresses hanging in the window. Whatever you do, DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING DRESS CLEANED HERE! I dropped mine off and the woman who took my order was helpful and explained the process. Then I got a call from the factory where the dress was to be hand cleaned and spoke to a very knowledgeable person, but what happened next was incredibly unprofessional....no one ever called me to tell me when I could view my dress before they boxed it. I happened to walk past the store front a month later and saw it in the window! When I went in to talk to someone about it, the clerk was completely incompetent, did not understand what my initial request was, and couldn't explain why my dress was hanging in the window and no one called me. He allowed me to inspect it and I found a red stain on the dress as well as a tear in the delicate netting!!!! When I pointed this out, he quietly stuck a orange ""stain"" sticker next to it and said they would sew it!! When I told him that it couldn't be sewn since it was a tear in the middle of the netting, all he said was, I will tell the owner to call you. It has been 5 days, no phone call. I even called the person I spoke to at the factory and no response. And no one can tell me where my kimono is either, which was dropped off for preservation at the same time as my wedding dress! Stay away from this place! My wedding dress is destroyed and my kimono is lost. Two things that can never be replaced!!!!! Horrible Quality and Customer Service 5/29/2007

These people have the worst attitudes I've seen in any service industry. They look and speak down at you. I don't think they know how to say ""thank you"". Worst of all, the quality is just as bad. I'd taken 2 pairs of pants to be hemmed ($20/pair), recently. Both had to be redone a 2nd time and the one had to be redone a THIRD time. Each time I went back, they turned it around on me, saying that my hips were uneven (which has never proven to be a problem in my 27 years) or that I should've told the seamstress to measure both legs. For the pair that were redone a THIRD time, each pant leg had been measured, except they still couldn't get it right (off by 1/2 inch!!). Never was I offered a refund or discount. And NEVER did they apologize!! Pros: NOTHING Cons: service, quality, high prices more

Expensive and Rude 4/10/2007

Not only are their prices ridiculous, but the people working there seem to be so miserable. I worked with the seamstress to ge an item hemmed and she was curt an made me feel like she did't need my business. Then there was a discrepancy with the price beteen what the man at the counter told me and what the seatress told me, so I simply asked him what the price was. When he told me the price options again and I told him it contradicted the seamstress, he told me I was giving him a headache! How rude! There are way too many other cleaners to go to and as convenient as this establishment is to me, I'd rather go out of my way to give my business to someone who wants it. more

outrageously high prices. my roommate recommended it to me. \r $8 for a pair of womens pants.\r $16 for a simple back dress.\r $7 for a plain woven cotton shirt.\r \r AND $86 for a beaded dress....""cause it has to be dry cleaned by hand.""\r \r i'm picking up these 4 pieces this weekend and i am praying to god it will arrive back ok. these these prices it better.
