CHOCOLATE BAR AT HENRI BENDEL
Welcome to Chocolate Bar at Henri Bendel, a devilishly sophisticated playground, where mod counters and open café seating seem to float within the café’s airy quarters, where the staff is exclusively and fashionably attired in a chic, cap sleeve mini dress by one of Bendel’s favorite designers, Stacey Bendet for Alice + Olivia. Feminine yet eclectic design elements, including creamy leather couches, eye-catching graphics and smooth modernist lighting, combine fluidly to add texture to the surroundings and usher in the next generation of cosmopolitan luxe. Despite the refreshingly modern feel, still a hint of nostalgia embeds itself within the retro-reconfigured furnishings that add vibrancy to timeless style. “Chocolate Bar at Henri Bendel is a contemporary take on a social salon, where our Bendel girl can have a quick coffee or a leisurely meal,” states Ed Bucciarelli, CEO and President of Henri Bendel. “The café offers a new spin on classic New York fare with its own line of savory selections, chocolate sandwiches, gourmet soups and mixed greens—including a revamped return of the legendary Bendel’s Salad.” The café also serves a fine assortment of Chocolate Bar’s award-winning truffles, baked goods, and confections alongside a selection of imported wine and champagne. An array of coffee and tea offerings will also be available, including Ma Rose 1927, a unique green tea blend exclusive to Bendel’s that contains hints of rose petal, a nostalgic nod to Mr. Bendel’s preferred flower and one time signature perfume. Enter a world of irresistible influence and edgy refinement, where indulgence is only a teacup or designer dress away. For more information please visit www.chocolatebarnyc.com

This was the first place I went looking for a dress, and my consultant here spoiled me for all others. Seriously. Sheryl is absolutely fantastic!! I cannot say enough good things about her. I had such fun and such a terrific time trying on dresses with her that when I left I told my friends, "I want to hang out with Sheryl...I want her to be my friend...I want to invite her to my wedding!!" :-) She put me instantly at ease, and I trusted her knowledge of the store's inventory (which can be overwhelming when you're walking along it yourself) and what would be good for me and for the style of my wedding.
My advice: please be prepared with pictures of dresses that you like. It helps immensely. If you don't know what you like, how can you expect someone who's never met you before to figure it out at first glance? Based on my pictures and a few questions, Sheryl had a good feel for what I was looking for. Also, come in with a good attitude. This is your wedding -- you should be happy and excited! Be decisive. Don't say every dress is great, because this doesn't help the consultant figure out where to go from there. I knew if a dress was a "contender" or not, and if there was something specific I didn't like about a dress, I would mention it. Also, if you can go on a weekday, do. We were there as soon as they opened on a Thursday, and we were the first ones there. It was not crowded at all.
Sheryl made such great choices. I really felt like she was looking to find something that was right for me and my personality. I said I didn't want strapless, and she said she could show me some dresses that were strapless but that they could add straps to them. I liked having that option. There were several dresses I was seriously considering. And they were all within the price range I'd set. Not only that, a lot of them were well below my limit. I was worried I wouldn't be able to find a nice dress for less than $3,000 (thanks to the money-hungry bridal industry in general), but I was pleasantly surprised.

I originally found this store in college, when I spotted a brown leather knapsack in the window. That was about ten years ago and that knapsack is still going strong. This store produces leather bags, wallets, purses, and other accessories of such a fantastic quality, anything you get here is an investment.
Since moving to their Great Jones Street location, they have also added a studio to the back of the store. There, you can pick your fabric and have anything custom made to your specifications. A product of such a collaboration for me was a beautiful, paprika colored hobo bag of incredibly supple leather. I was able to choose the fabric, cut, and precise hardware I wanted and it came out to $250, making it an unbelievable value.

If you live around E. 95th street in the city, this is the best option by far for cleaners. The staff is always helpful and is outstanding at getting your clothes ready for the time they say they will. The wash n' fold is also very reasonably priced and has same day service. Drop off on your way to work and it is delivered to your building before you get home. Fantastic! They are ok at alterations which takes the rating from perfect to great. However, they stand by their word and fix any problems free of charge. Great pick for a cleaners.

Alice Zotta has been an institution in NY for decades. The new LIRR trains have arm rests that rip clothing. This the only store I would trust to fix a suit flawlessly. They repair a tear in fabric as though it was never torn. Truly amazing. There is no other place I know of that can do what they do.

I found out about Artcraft bag studio just recently. They are amazing. They take your old vintage purse or bag and they fix it up and clean it so it looks like it did the day it first came out. I love them. They even take care of broken zippers and sew up holes. From now on if I need to clean my handbag I'm bringing it over to Artcraft studio.

Ever Ready Laundromat is a very modern, cleanly laundromat. It's cleaner than most places and the washers and dryers are huge so you can do a lot of laundry in one sitting. There's also a drop off service if you are in a hurry. They do you laundry at the same day. The downside is that some of the washers are expensive and it gets crowed quickly on the weekends and during the weekdays as well

Special Touch valet cleaners provides decent service. Not fantastic, but not bad. Their prices are relatively competitive (though I miss the days of $1.35 per item in New Orleans, LA). They do a pretty nice job on the laundering of men's shirts, and you are given a choice of hanger or folded when you get the shirts back. Usually the shirts come out very clean, and the folding in the box is handled very nicely as well. They also will keep your credit card on file if you want, and then charge it when appropriate (with the customers okay of course). If you live in the neighborhood, they are worth visiting.

You have been warned: leave room in your stomach for A Salt and Battery. Even if you order the small platter of fried cod and chips, you're going to either want to lie down afterwards or go for a run. Given the thumbs up by my Brit, the fish and chips are very much like what's made at home. And that means crusty, greasy batter and chips (fries) served up with vinegar or mayonnaise as your condiments.
They also serve beverages indigent to the Brits. If you have any room leftover after meal, which is unthinkable but...try the deep-fried Mars bar. That would be an acquired taste.
