Best

This is the best pizzeria in Manhattan! It is so tasty and the cheese is absolutely amazing. But not only is the pizza good, everything else on the menu is fantastic too. This is...

Worst

To be honest, food was clearly not our top priority on the biggest party night of the year. Totonno's was there, it didn't look too crowded, and we just wanted to get some grub on...

Awful owner 4/25/2010

This is one of the worst restaurants in Manhattan, owned by a nasty, mean woman. We recently ate there and our food was cold and soggy. We tried our best to ""nicely"" complain (really, we were doing our best to make it sound like we understood that the gross food was likely an accident in the kitchen) but the owner was completely confrontational and unapologetic. I have never experienced that. Go ANYWHERE else. Cons: cold, soggy food, nasty owner, nasty manager more

Stay far from the manager 6/13/2008

Nice, ample salads and fine pizza if you ask for it to be well done. The staff is fine. But the manager is one of the most offensive people I've ever encountered in a restaurant. I've grown accustomed to seeing him berate the staff, but tonight he tore into a woman and her two kids for seating themselves at a table intended for them before the table wasn't completely clean. They left. Intolerable behavior from the boss. Pros: Decent, simple food Cons: Choleric boss more

Worst dining experience 1/24/2008

We went for my friend's birthday dinner and was shocked by the TERRIBLE managment. We brought our own cookie cake and was not allowed to eat it there without paying $5 PER plate. The manager came out and was terribly rude to us and RUINED our dinner. I have never experienced such rude behavior by management. more

New Year's Eve Dinner Disaster 1/4/2008

To be honest, food was clearly not our top priority on the biggest party night of the year. Totonno's was there, it didn't look too crowded, and we just wanted to get some grub on before we boozed it up. Big mistake. I already knew Totonno's had a great reputation as a pizza-maker, but I think I had heard better things about the original in Brooklyn. I probably ordered the worst thing you could order at an Italian restaurant/pizza shop: chicken fingers. Yeah, I know, what was I thinking? Well, I wasn't that hungry and I just wanted something light. My two friends ordered chicken parm, and chicken marsala, respectively. We ended up waiting almost an hour for our food, which in restaurant time, is an eternity. They kept giving us the ""one more minute"" runaround. Luckily, the food showed up before the ball dropped. Not that we felt very lucky when we looked down at our plates. They dumped four of the most unappetizing chicken fingers in front of me. How can you screw up chicken fingers? These chicken fingers looked like they had been run over by a car, breaded with saw dust, and overcooked. I refused to eat them and they took it off the bill. I could tell by my friends' plates, that their meals also looked very mediocre. The chicken marsala looked like it fell out of a Hungry Man dinner box. The chicken parm didn't look too bad, but the pasta was school cafeteria quality. Can you imagine waiting an hour for bad Italian food at $16.95 an entree? The only thing they got right was the bread and olive oil. If you do go, stick to the pizza. People who came in while we were waiting, got their pies in no time, and we're out the door already before we got our stuff. more

Buyer Beware!! 8/6/2007

I'll make this short and sweet. The place has decent pizza (although it is overpriced and usually delivered cold). If you do you a debit card be sure to check your bank statement online the next day because they like to tag on a few extra bucks.\r \r Too bad the service is so poor and the restaurant is run by a bunch of crooks because like I said the before, the pizza is decent. CASH ONLY OTHERWISE YOU'LL BE IN FOR THE TOTTONNOS TAX.\r \r thanks and have a nice day. Pros: Fresh Ingredients Cons: Owned and operated by A crew of CROOKS more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! 4/29/2007

This place has the worst customer service EVER!! I had my shares of bad service but this was by far the worst. Since it was my first time there I was unsure about what to order so I took a little time deciding on my final choice but the server gave me the biggest attitude and at one point took the menu out of my hands! The food was overpriced and was not even that great. If I were you, I would save your money and goto another italian/pizza place on 2nd ave. Pros: If you like throwing money away, this is the place! Cons: Horrible customer service! more

average pizza but horrible price gouging 3/26/2007

so first the pizza. it has fresh mozzarella on it which some people like, some don't. i like plain old ny pizza which this was not. otherwise, it seemed high quality was normal sized pie. what i did not like, was a pie with one topping cost $20.50. remember, this is pizza...not a steak. i love pizza (it's probably my favorite food) but this is way overpriced and not good enough to cost this much. \r \r about the management. we were there for my friends birthday, 16 of us...large group. they said since we were a large group we had to each have a minimum of $15 or they would add the difference. this is a pizza place...not a fancy restaurant. we argued a bit but to no avail. most of us were sharing pizza and even with their extravagant prices, most of us weren't spending $15. Another thing was my friend had a cake for her birthday. she wanted them to cut it for us and serve it. i can understand a fee for this, but it would be $3 a plate. for $3 i can buy my own dessert for that price and they were just price gouging. we ended up using the difference for the $15 dollar minimum for serving the cake since we weren't going to reach the minimum. so in the end, i had 4 slices of pizza and a beer for $25. a little insane? i think so. i don't plan on returning. Pros: pizza if you like fresh mozzerella Cons: prices, treatment of groups, attitude towards customers, prices again more

Good food, bad service 1/24/2007

I have been to Totonnos twice now and both times I have left saying, ""good food but what is the deal with the staff?' The hostess has been pushy with us each time we have been and the wait staff is very spacey. (You have to ask for something at least twice before you actually get it.) The first time we went, we actually thought that the waitress was on something because she seemed so out of it and confused when she took our order which was simply pizza with one topping. The food is good, not the best I've had in the city, and if you are looking for good service, definitely do not go to Totonnos. Pros: food Cons: Service more

casual lunch 9/27/2006

I had a hankering for a small pizza for lunch, but did not want the pedestrian stuff from all the locals, ie too much bread crust, indifferent sauce, lousy ingredients. Have had good luck downtown, but was in upper east side. Had hear of Tontonnos in Brkyln, but never get there, so tried the upper 2nd Ave place. Very quiet in mid week for lunch, but the pizza did not disappoint. $10 bucks for individual and a reasonable pinot grigio to wash it down. Very pleased. Pros: price, pizza, wine price more

An average pizza place 12/30/2005

nothing special. pizza was really good, but nothing to write home about. more

Mixed Reviews 12/27/2005

I've dined at Totonno's three times now and still can't muster up the enthusiasm to rave about this place. The pizza is good, but for $20-something a pie, one must wonder if it's worth it. My boyfriend is a fan of their veal parm and their salads are okay (adding the salami / cheese combo is a must!). Don't expect friendly or attentive service...OR an ambience that is anything more than tacky. Also, be wary of what time of the day you go; around dinnertime, the restaurant becomes a jungle of diners and hustling waitresses. more

Get the Margherita 11/28/2005

Yes, sometimes the service is better than others, and the place can be noisy, but this pizza is great. If you find the crust soggy, get the Margherita, I have never had red sauce pizza that good. The white tends to get soggy and is overly garlicky. Salads are also good - Caesar and Arugula with gorgonzola. Pros: Margherita Pizza, salads Cons: noisy, inconsistent service more

Just not worth it 11/18/2005

The pizza is good, that's true, but not worth raving about, and it is wildly overpriced. The house wine was terrible, salads are decent, other italian food is average. Very unfriendly service, extremely noisy dining room. I've been there a few times for the pizza, but I eventually decided it's not worth the hassle. Pros: Good pizza Cons: Overpriced, Poor service, Crowded and noisy more

Best Pizza in NYC 3/9/2005

The title says it all. Whenever an out of towner asks for good NY pizza, this is what they get and it never disappoints. Pros: Pizza, toppings, freshness Cons: little pricey for pie more

Horrible 7/25/2004

If you like dry pizza with a side of burn come here. It was honestly the worst place I've been...my roomies hated it as well. Even Famous Ray's is better. Stay away! more

for sit down pizza it is average 4/12/2004

for pizza its pretty good, but for sit down pie its just ok, afterwards I was contently full. went with party of four, underwhelmed because the other couple talked it up and planned it out two weeks in adance. pizza: ok, outside crust was excellent, not hot enough. service: if you are out of the way and can't make eye contact you'll never see water, refills, parasean, or anything else-but they are friendly and helpful summary: its just pizza. if you are hungry for pizza and you happen to be on the block, knock yourself out. I traveled 50 blocks and waited two weeks, so you can understand my mild opinion. I did eat five slices and stuffed my face, followed by a walk up the block to Stone Cold Creamery for an awesome desert. I was very content. more

munchiekitty 4/12/2004

Totonno's is known for it's pizza and the 2nd ave joint didn't perform up to par! the pizza needs to be less soggier and a lot hotter. it came out lukewarm. In matters of minutes, the pizza, especially the white pie, became cold and the cheese went dry. The original one is still the reigning champ of Totonno in Brooklyn. 2nd ave needs to adopt better techniques in making the pizza like bringing it out blazing hot and more crust to prevent sogginess. ~disappointed~ more

Eeh... 12/21/2003

I suppose the pizza is better than your average storefront slice joint, but a restaurant's pizza has to be pretty spectacular to be a destination spot and this place is barely worth crossing the street for. more

Manhattan Location Terrible 8/28/2003

I haven't been to the original Coney Island location, but the Manhattan location is a joke. It's tasteless. Don't waste your time. Go to Patsy's on 117th and 1st or Johnny's in Mt. Vernon, NY. There are several pizza places which are resting on their laurels - Lombardi's, Grimaldi's and John's among them. But Totonno's has really lost it altogether. Of the classic places - places 60+ years old, only Patsy's and Sally's in New Haven, have really kept up the tradition. But to be fair, I still have to trek out the Coney Island. Cons: Bland more
