I have lived in NYC for five years now and for the first 3 I wouldn't get my hair cut/highlighted except when I would fly home to NC. Reasons being I didn't trust anyone and it was so much cheaper. I stumbled across this place as I was looking for an eco-friendly salon to get highlights (couldnt make it home). And fell in love. Not only does my hair look great when I leave, the prices are comparable to my high-end salon in NC. Luis and Caroline are extremely warm and friendly and amazing hosts (always asking if I need/want something to drink or eat). The atmosphere is relaxing and the music is great! Luis really knows what he is doing and offers great advice on how to maintain healthy hair in between visits. The products they use are great and very effective while still being eco-friendly. Luis is a true artist. He does a beautiful job on my hair everytime I come here!! I love the products they have here. I cannot find the organic oils anywhere else! He is the best! I have no idea what the person below me is talking about. There is no possible way Luis could mess someones hair up like that. I used to go to Bumble and bumble and I cannot tell a difference between my old hair dresser and Luis. that must be a fake review. more

I requested highlights. Luis insisted that my roots needed to be bleached so that the highlights would blend. Needless to say, the final product was really lousy highlights (looked like single process) with really white/orangey roots!!! It was a nightmare, and I was in tears before court the next day. Luis spent 4 hours the next day trying to fix the disaster and could not fix the roots. He would not refund the $200 (I think my credit card company will), and I will have to go to a new salon to fix the mess. This is my first time on Citysearch. Please DO NOT GO TO SWING!! I would give no stars but the minimum is 1. Pros: No pros Cons: All cons!! more

I've been going to Swing Salon for almost 3 years. It's by far, the best salon I've ever gone to. I actually recommended Swing Salon to my wife who loved it so much, she switched over from Bumble & Bumble. Now THAT's a big deal! The atmosphere is relaxing, the cost is more than reasonable, and everything is eco / animal - friendly! Luis is an exquisite artist. Pros: Excellent service, eco-friendly, reasonable price! more

Luis the owner has been cutting my hair for over 11 years now, and I'm thrilled that he has such a nice salon of his own now! In addition to doing great cuts for both men and women (and doing the perfect, elusive, ""short cut for girls""), he does some serious magic with hair color. I have seen him do amazing color and color correction jobs, even when all hope seemed lost. I'll never forget the day that I came in for a cut at the same time as a very attractive lady with very long, red hair..except that her root ends were orange and the rest of her hair was purple. A few hours and two processes later, she left the shop with gorgeous, silky golden-red locks, which is probably what she wanted before she reached for the Drug Store Red. He's also given me full color jobs and highlights in the past. Add to this the shop's great atmosphere (if you're lucky, Luis' wife, Caroline, will be working the desk) and use of incredibly high-quality products coupled with a price list that's half that of the competition, and you can see why they're usually packed on the weekends. While these guys do take walk-ins, if it's a weekend you should probably call ahead if you need something major done. Luis's haircuts have a life of their own. Even when my hair has grown out and it is time to go back to Swing for a trim, my hair still looks great. My hair just grows out beautifully. Pros: amazing haircut Cons: ummmm, wish there were more Swings in this world? more
