The place is very nice. I showed up to meet with some friends on a Saturday night, relatively early. For an empty bar it took sometime for the bartender to even know I was wai...

Great venue! 7/19/2008

I had a party there on June 21st. My friends and I had a great time! The place is great...we were seated in the balcony in our own little section with tables. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. The music was also really good! Nick, the planner, was very helpful regarding my questions and concerns. Also, location is a plus (near penn station)! I will definitely be coming back! Pros: drinks/music/location more

Not informative at all 6/28/2008

I went there tonight (June 28th) a saturday, my actual birthday. I made reservations about 1 and a half weeks in advance for a party of 10. I arrive at Stitch by 9:30 and there's maybe 30 people there. I read a review that suggested to try for the balcony seatings but when I asked for tables up on the balcony, they said it was closed off because there was only 1 waitress that night. I understand that, so we were seated all the way up front. My guests arrived and the waitress took good care of taking our food and drink orders but when I asked about the open bar specials (as advertised on the Stitch website) on saturdays, we were told that they don't do that anymore. If that was true, then don't advertise it. We asked the bartenders as well because the waitress told us she just started but it seems that the bartenders were unsure as well as hard to understand (heavy european accents). I would have really appreciated the open bar specials because at $10 a cocktail, the open bar specials would've helped out tons because including me, my guests ordered and consumed plenty. Then the bartender proceeded to say that Stitch was opened only until 12 but I had made reservations for 10-1 (so she was either trying to get us out early or she didn't know what she was talking about). I suggest that if you advertise something, go through with it and inform your bartenders and waitresses what the deal is because if you aren't going to offer open bar specials, don't put them up on the website because that is false advertisement. The drinks were decent and my guests truly made the night amazing! Just another thing to point out, although it was my birthday, there was nothing done, no discounts or free shot or anything and when asked if they give out free/discounted drinks, 1 bartender replied that ""they had just returned from probation because she gave out free drinks 1-2 years ago."" No offense, but why would you hire someone like that again?? Pros: Good drinks (not at all watered down), great waitress Cons: Not at all good at customer service and people don't know about open bar specials more

Great for group events! 2/1/2008

We recently held a happy hour event at Stitch for our local area alumni. Nick was great to work with and reserved the spacious balcony for us. The alumni had an awesome time and our waitress Cheronda was very attentive. I would highly recommend this place for people looking to host staff parties, alumni events or any other large (~50) group event. Pros: Crowd, staff and food - thumbs up! Cons: Music was a little too loud. more

Best place in the area for a private party! 12/5/2007

The fantastic staff of Stitch Bar and Lounge helped me pull off the most amazing private party. My organization is a new nonprofit start up with a VERY tight budget but Stitch was more than happy to work out a deal with me that was a win-win for all involved. We brought in business, our guests got a great deal on food and beverage, and my organization didn't have to spend money on entertainment. What's more is that they have a GREAT party space upstairs on the mezzanine level. They worked hard to clear the area for me and helped me post signs etc. The service is super fast too! We had two bartenders and waitresses covering a lot of ground and making lots of people smile. The DJ was great and very understanding when we asked for the music to be turned down a notch to facilitate more conversation. I find its hard to come by friendly and flexible service in the city when you're not looking to burn wads of cash. Stitch showed me that's not always the case and I am looking forward to hosting future events with them. Pros: Service, price, location, ambience Cons: Can get crowded and loud more

Unhappy Experience 11/26/2007

The bar is in such a good location relative to my work it's a shame I won't be going back. I tried a second draft beer different from my first because my first was warm. I handed the bartender back the full draft and asked for a bottle because it was warm. She said the kegs were in the fridge and refused to give me a bottle and when I said I didn't want the beer, she poured it out and charged me for a new drink. Obviously the bar's fridge isn't cold, or it was broken. I could not believe she would have rather me walked out than give me a bottle of beer (I paid for the draft already). This is not a place I will be visiting again. Pros: location Cons: rude bartender, crowded more

Loud Place with a weird blond waitress 10/19/2007

Went there afterwork for a few drinks and light eating. By the way, you'll have to scream if you intend on having any sort of conversation. \r \r Also, waitress totally screwed up my drink. Instead of immediately getting me what I had ordered, she proceeds to clear the table next to me, chat it up w/ her other customers, and basically got back to me on her own time...ugh Pros: Drinks are nice when you finally get them. Cons: Very Loud Music. Service can use a fine-tuning. more

Best after-work bar. 9/12/2007

Great join, great music, good crowd, drinks are great, beer is cold! There's nothing not to like. Grab a table, have a party, eat some food, they have and can do anything for you. more

Nice staff, reasonably priced food and drinks for Manhattan, spacious and attractive venue 9/7/2007

I recently organized a gathering for my husband and a few other friends who were celebrating birthdays. Nick, the manager or owner, was very gracious and a pleasure to deal with. I called about a week or two in advance and he reserved a spacious area in the mezzanine level/balcony bar for us. It had cozy couches and tables where 20 or 30 of us could comfortably sit and enjoy appetizers and cocktails. The food was good and regular drinks (beer, wine, etc.) were reasonably-priced by Manhattan standards. Some of us also enjoyed Stitch's specialty drinks, like the Lingerie and Cashmere. The venue itself is very attractive and spacious. The staff was receptive and welcoming. I definitely plan to return! I may even suggest that my company try to hold our annual holiday party there. more

Great Bartenders! 8/31/2007

Stich is great! I always feel welcome there, and the two bartenders who usually work the bar- they look like sisters- are very precise and hard-working. Since the bar is located in the Garment District, it's very smart of the management to hire bartenders who look like models and not like some Wisconsin cowgirls!\r I can see why some female customers give the bar staff a hard time. Like the lady who wrote about the bartenders expecting her tip money. Well, as a casual observer, I recommend to TIP THE BARTENDERS in the first place, instead of expending energy on citysearch and writing sub-par comments about them or those who work in the millieu. Just because you couldn't get into Pangea, dont' take it out on the people at Stitch!\r \r \r Pros: hot staff, great vibe more

Off my list 8/31/2007

The bar and atmosphere itself is great but the bartenders not so much. When has it become customary for a bartender to help themselves to a tip?? Two women, who looked very much alike, were working the bar and presumed (wrongly I might add because we were still there ordering drinks) our money on the bar was a tip. We were about to add more money to pay for our newly ordered drinks when we noticed it was gone. Apparently money on the bar is up for grabs. Not only did they take money from the bar, they were slow and rude. It was quite difficult to get a drink. After that, a friend of mine (who came later and missed the money swipe) ordered a few drinks that totaled $16, she gave her a $20 but never received change back. She was going to leave the $4 as a tip anyway. I convinced her to get her change. How audacious of them to assume that their lack of service demanded such a consideration. My friends and I will never go back. more

Great Service 8/30/2007

Great service, good atmosphere and good DJ. I had a great time last week and look forward to booking another party next time I'm in town. more

Best Head of Promotions 8/30/2007

Stitch rocks... its a fun venue, big and wide open. the staff is friendly and there is no attitude which is found at most other venues of this size and hipness. Ask for Nick, he is the head of promotions and manager there. He is the man!\r \r \r enjoy it after a night out at the garden. After all U2 did after there concert there a year or so ago. Bono was smashed!\r \r :-) Pros: Good staff, inexpensive, great music... Cons: in midtown. more

Horrible time! 8/27/2007

My childhood friend decided to celebrate her bday this past weekend at Stitch. We were offered the 2 hour open bar for 30 bucks....but just as we finished having our last drinks to wrap up the Open bar....they kicked us out! They were closing the bar at 1:30 AM!!!!!!!!!\r Who closes that early in NYC???? Needless to say we were forced (about 20 people) to go to another bar!\r \r This place is wwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaK!!!!\r dont waste a good Friday or Saturday night there more

Best Birthday Party I Have Ever Had 8/21/2007

My sister and I have been celebrating our birthdays together for the past two years. This year we were looking to stay away from the club scene and were focusing more on low cost and great atmosphere. And thats when we found STITCH. From the minute I contacted them for more information I got the quickest response. Nick Cohen was such a delight and helped me the whole way through being that I am the most annoying party planner anyone will ever meet. Ive planned parties for years and its never been so easy. He reserved the Balcony Bar for us that fit 100 people for a private party at no cost. He also informed us that there was an Open Bar option. Two hours of our choice (We chose 12am-2am) for $30 TOP SHELF open bar and $45 from 11pm-2am. As a frequent NYC bar hopper this has to be by far the greatest deal I've come across. Drinks in NYC can start at a minimum of $10 and can triple as the night goes on and thats for just one drink. And the best part of all there was no cover at the door. What a sweet deal I tell you. The night of our party I got there around midnight NO DOOR DRAMA was the first plus. As I walked in downstairs was packed! I proceeded upstairs and fell in love with the setup it was beautiful. Just like in their pictures. My friends had started arriving and took full advantage of the open bar.The bartender was a sweetheart and the drinks to my surprise were nowhere near watered down. Talk about more for your money. I had the time of my life! The music was great, the drinks were the best, and the atmosphere was by far amazing. My friends could not stop raving about the spot I had chosen. Since then my phone has not stopped ringing; they all want to celebrate their birthdays there as well. I'm just glad I found it first gives me one hell of a bragging right. 5 stars all the way. That was my first of many nights at STITCH. if you are looking for a good crowd, great music, strong drinks, and phenomenal service STITCH is without a doubt the place to be!! Pros: Ambience, Service more

They give away your credit card 8/17/2007

I've had cases in bars where wrong drinks are added to your tab. A pain, but easily fixed when settling. However, this was the first time that I've ever had a bar give my credit card to someone else when they left. That's what happened to me at Stich. And the best part is that I knew something was up when the bartenders didn't have much going on and they took 10 mins to show up with my tab. They kept huddling together at the other end of the bar. Then when the bartender finally told me that my card was given to someone else I asked to see the manager. Another great response - he wasn't at the bar. You've got to be kidding me. A bar in NYC on a Friday at 7:30 and the manager is AWOL! I had to wait 5 more minutes for him to show up. By the time he showed up I was already on the phone with the credit card company and found that 2 charges were already made with my card. They voided them immediately and cancelled the card. I'm sure he had fun when trying to pay for his next drink. By the way the bartender told my wife that the other guy was a regular - doesn't say much about the regulars does it. All the manager was concered with was me going into his office to resolve this. Not much else for them to do since they screwed up my Friday evening.\r >>\r I would not have been irate if there was a manager on premises when the bartender reported the event to me. I was told to wait until he could show up. I was NOT given a time estimate. So, I went outside to call AMEX immediately since I had no idea how long it would take for the manager to show up. When I called AMEX I was told that there were already 2 charges made. All the manager finally wanted to do after he showed up was take me into the back office with his 6-5 bouncer in tow. I was not going into a closed office with 2 people that I did not know since they had already violated my trust by giving my card away.\r Don't have to worry about us coming back - plenty of other bars in the city that don't give away credit cards. more

great service, great drinks, great food.. 8/2/2007

i loved this place. for those S*x and The City fans, the darkness of the decor and the lighting reminds me of Steve's bar ""Scout"".. LOL. \r The waitress was super friendly, accomodating... The drinks were great, I had the ""Ruby Red Cosmo"" YUM!\r The food was tasty--I ordered the Chicken Rolled Quesadillas (I could have ordered another one)..\r \r Very clearn, not too loud, close to Penn Station....\r Going back soon! more

Great for birthdays 7/31/2007

I had my gf's birthday there about 3 months back and meant to write this review a while back. This is a great place to have a party, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, especially the bartenders and the bouncers. They placed us upstairs instead of reserved downstairs when the party ended up being instead of reserved 20 people about 35. The open bar was great. I do sincerely apologize to the management for a few of the guests at my party throwing up outside of Stitch (it was around 3 a.m.), take it as a complement to the job well done by your bartenders. Pros: Parties get their own area, amazing 2 hour top shelf open bar for $30 more

Huge Venue - Great Location 7/23/2007

This is a good place to throw a party and come for happy hour. The location is great if you are looking to pre or post game for a MSG event. Beautiful decor and accommodating staff. Pros: location, size more

Perfect place for a party! 6/18/2007

So I searched high and low for the perfect place for my going away party and, after reading all the reviews, took a chance on this place. It's definitely nerve racking to have a party somewhere you've never been, but I definitely chose right! Nick was great with helping me set everything up: no cover, top shelf open bar for 2 hours (only $30), reserved table, the works. When we got there later than anticipated on a saturday night, our waitress, Sharonda, offered to push back our open bar so we wouldn't miss any of it...I've never heard of a bar that does that! The drinks were great (try The Lingerie) and the spinach-artichoke dip was a-mazing. I usually find it difficult to find a place that suits everyone's taste, but Stitch was perfect...you could chill at your table and eat, drink at the bar or create your own little dance floor (like we did). Music was great, place was big (never had that ""too crowded"" feeling), location was super close to penn station (for all us long islanders) and we had a great time. If you're looking for a great night out in the city, go here! Pros: Great service, food & drinks were awesome, not overcrowded, great music, not pricey, convenient location Cons: i can't actually think of any more

Not to sound repetitive...but have your party here. 5/13/2007

For the second year in a row I hosted my party at Stitch and it was amazing. I had about 50-60 guests and we reserved the private upstairs balcony bar for the party. The open bar deal is one of the best around, especially when you have your party upstairs on the Balcony because the bar upstairs is private for your guests and you NEVER have to wait for a drink. Nick, the owner, is a pleasure to deal with and will ensure that your party is great. Great music, great space, good strong drinks -- trust me, you won't be disappointed!!! Pros: Ambience, Strong Drinks, Friendly Staff, Great Space Cons: Last call was a liiiitle early, around 2ish, but that's the only drawback to the place more

Editorial
  • Grabbing a drink with co-workers in midtown usually means sipping a Bud in a humdrum Irish pub, but Stitch is here to change that. A lively alt-rock soundtrack--think U2 and Franz Ferdinand--heals...
