Great Indie Bookstore 5/28/2006

Stacey's is the best of both worlds - it gives me that warm, fuzzy, slightly-giddy feeling I get when I walk into a Borders AND I know that when I make a purchase there my money isn't going into the belly of some corporate beast. Plus they have a running slate of interesting authors and speakers that visit and present on a regular basis. Their history and current events sections rock and my boy says they have the best mystery section of any generalist bookstore in the city. I"ll have to take his word for it, but I don't doubt it. Stacey's is the best. more

Great for technical books 4/21/2006

We used to shop at Stacy's often when we lived downtown, and sometimes to the Palo Alto one (when it existed) and it has a great selection. They specialize in technical books and they are really great. They also have standard bookstore books -- a great place to come and browse during lunch! more

Have College Textbooks Too 10/21/2005

Staceys Bookstore is a great place to shop for books. There prices are pretty good, and I did find a few textbooks that I needed for college at a MUCH cheaper price there. I would recommend this store to everyone! more

Staceys Bookstore 10/21/2005

I've always loved Stacey's bookstope ever since I was a child. I always seem to find any book that i want at this particular bookstore. the employees are always nice and friendly and i would recommend this bookstore to anyone. more

Stacey's Bookstore 10/19/2005

Stacey's Bookstore is my husband's favorite. He only reads technical literature and he finds anythig and evertyhing here. He also purchased lots of school-related textbooks when he was doing his Masters. In addition, I found lots of design-oriented books here. And there is an online version of this store - which also offers an extensive selection. more

Love to read 10/17/2005

This store has it all. If you love to read, then this is the place for you. It's no Barnes and Nobles, but it is quite big with a huge selection of all types of books. And if they don't have it? Don't worry!!! The friendly and knowledgable staff can special order it for you. They have all the latest and greatest, as well as, classics. Especially helpful is its downtown location. If you work downtown, it's just a leisurely walk. If not, they are right on Market street with access to all the major buslines. more

My Review 9/14/2005

This bookstore offers a wide varieity of reading materials from books to magazines. Store is big but items are not easy to locate. Often times popular books are out of stock. Store is crowded so you feel like buying what you need and leave right away. Staff isn't the most courteous and sometimes can be outright obnoxious. more

Great author events; very neat and organized 8/21/2005

It's THE non-funky, well-run independent bookstore in San Francisco. They sometimes get major authors/celebs like Roger Ebert. The bargain section doesn't seem to have any good books. The store is very neat and organized. Occasionally they have a great 20% off everything sale. With a free Stacey's Literary License, you always get 10% off everyday. more

One of the most clean bookstores around 8/20/2005

This is a nice place to go for a couple of hours browsing around with there downtown store. One of the most well put together bookstores around, with plenty of choices, and a very helpful staff. They seem to be quite knowledge in there particular departments, and great to talk with. Simply a joy that they are still around. There books are a bit pricey, but you pay for what you get. more

Large Bookstore 8/19/2005

Stacey's Bookstore is a large bookstore located in downtown San Francisco. They probably have the best selection of most of the bookstores in the Bay Area especially for technical books. There are always a lot of events happening here like book signings and discussion groups. Three floors of books are a lot to sift through! more

Great store! 8/17/2005

Stacey's is one of my favorite bookstores in San Francisco. It is huge, and it's great to just find a place to sit down and read. They have a large variety of books, and I love looking for the bargain books. When I can't find a book in one of the larger stores like Borders or Barnes and Noble, I usually find it at Stacey's! more

Great Store, very big! 8/15/2005

This is a really big bookstore located in downtown san Francisco, this store is actually very warm. There is two other floors, a basement floor and an upstair floor full of books. There is a lot of people who works out front so you don’t have to wait in line and everyone is pleasant and friendly. The security guy standing around, makes it look ackward, but it’s really nice overall. I think the price is pretty reasonable, very similar to barnes and noble. more

Lots of Tech Books 8/10/2005

If you're looking for tech books, Stacey's is the place to come. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. They also have a lot of other types of book. They also deliver to your door that day when you order online with a small fee. I don't know any other store that is willing to bring you that book on the same day. more

Stacey's Bookstore 8/9/2005

Stacey's Bookstore is located in downtown San Francisco and it is a great place to purchase books of all kinds or just sit down and browse their huge selection. Some customers do not like chain bookstores with a Starbucks inside the store, so Stacey's would be perfect for them. It is a locally owned store and has been around and a favorite to locals for a while. The service is super friendly and the place is very nice and neat. Come check it out if you want something more homey and less overwhemling than a huge chain store. more

Stacey's Bookstore 8/6/2005

This bookstore has a lot of books, but has the books in the wrong location. The store itself is messy so once you go in you are discouraged if you are trying to look for something. If you are browsing, a lot of the items are misplaced or out of order. The shape of the books are sometimes messed up or torn, but the price stays the same. If you are lucky, you will find a good deal. more

Stacey's Bookstore 8/5/2005

As much as I like the other bookstores, this one just does not do anything for me. It is really disorganized and messy. Kids section, which is not too large, in comparison to kids sections in other bookstores, is always chaotic all books are scattered around, misplaced, some torn, others damaged in some other ways. It is hard to find different sections of the bookstore because they are just illogically placed and not heavily labeled. For example, it took me some time to find personal health section that was very well hidden from eyes of the shoppers. Maybe there is a reason why it was so well hidden but I surely didnt appreciate spending 15 minutes before asking for help. more

Very Nice 8/5/2005

Considering the large competition with Borders bookstores, Stacey's bookstore is still on the Market! Stacey's bookstore sells a wide range of books. You will find best sellers on the first floor. The bottom floor sells many dicounted books. You will find books that are 3.99! The store is really clean. The store is pretty big and there are a lot of space. more

Independent Bookstore 8/5/2005

One of the largest independent bookstores in San Francisco, Stacey's has been around since 1923. The bookstore is not your shop around the corner kind of bookstore. This place is huge. Three floors of books. If you are looking for medical books or building code publications, Stacey's is the place for you. You can get 10% off every book every day if you sign up for Literary License, a free membership program. After $200 in purchases, you get a $10 rebate towards your next purchase. Check the website for instore events and details. more

wonderful 7/27/2005

This is one of my favorite bookstores in San Francisco. They have a huge selection of books. Often times I go to Stacy's to buy books that I just can't seem to find at other bookstores. The staff is friendly and curteous. Most of the sales people know everything about all the books. Its very refreshing. The only bad thing that I can say about this bookstore is that there is absolutely no parking. But its really close to all the public transportion more
