Arguably the best coffee in the city. But people don't come here for the coffee - they come for the scene and sheer coolness of the Farley. This is old school san francisco where you'll encounter all walks of life seeking their daily or nighly required doses of caffine. A great place to hang out -- offering an excellent selection of magazines and games (yeah, board games guys!)

You've seen their coffees in SF's finer cafes, you’ve heard the coffee snobs rave about the beans, now go to the source, the first place in North Beach to serve espresso back in the 1950's. A perfect hour equals a square of their tiramisu, a hot drink, and a table on the sidewalk. The heart and soul of North Beach…

Hands down the best Americano in the city. From the beautiful, aromatic and tasty crema to the actual brew for which you can taste all the nuances of coffee flavor! I know I sound like an advertisement but what you will actually taste in your cup is actually what "over the counter" super market coffee makers purport. I never really understood what they were speaking of until I had this cup of java.
I enjoy a cup whenever I can...even if I have already had too much caffeine!
Pros: Great Coffee

If you need to wake up fast, Cafe abir has the best coffee in town. I have worked at Peets and I know my stuff. Don?t bother with the fancy drinks because the drip coffee is the best. Abir sells their fresh roasted coffee beans at a great price too. The sandwiches are really fresh and have tons of filling - I can usually split with a friend
Pros: best coffee in town, can buy fresh roast beans
Cons: none

Bean There has to be one of the most perfect coffeeshops in the city. Spacious as far as coffeshops go, great coffee, and great vibes. Very cozy and neiborhood-y feel. This is a great place to read, chat with friends, or sip while you watch walkers and their dogs. Lovely location, with nice trees and big windows.

I first stumbled into La Boheme because it was less than 2 blocks from my Mission District apartment and it had FREE WIRELESS. It quickly became my "office" and neighborhood hangout. The walls feature a rotating series of various pieces from local artists and on any given day you can find an eclectic mix of old men playing chess and sharing local gossip, students hitting the books and families enjoying a little midday treat. The cafe is family-run and includes a great selection of simple, yet tasty breakfast and lunch treats, coffee, pastries, even wine and beer.

Starbucks is a world wide multi country coffee retailer. They offer a while range of coffee beans for everyone's taste. Just recently they've got into music offerings. Starbucks continues to expand through the world, and gives what the consumer wants. There Fraps are tremendous, and have me going back for more. There drinks can get fairly costly if you return everyday. Starbucks is a great place to have casual chat, or to meet up and do some studying. They also offer WI-FI connections which is a boon to certain demographics, who are always on the go.

If you want a tourist trap go to the Stinking Rose, but if you want some local color come on down to Melt! Melt! is the real deal, much needed in North Beach. It's a place where locals and tourists mix it up and everybody feels welcome. The owners are a sister and brother team from Jersey (not New Jersey, an island off England they tell me). The fondue is excellent and the wine and beer selection keeps me satisfied. There's an open mic every Monday and Friday night that is frequented by an eclectic mix of musicians, comedians, and poets. You never know what will happen. Give it a try?you won't be disappointed.
Pros: great atmosphere
