Cama is a place I love to hate....a sort of bar where beautiful people come to pout. But I gotta say, the happy hour is pretty sweet ($2 well drinks 5-7pm weeknights) and the drink menu inspired. They neon colors are accentuated by crazy found footage, documentaries and old movies projected onto the walls, and right past the little back room is the door to a cute patio area perfect for drinking al fresco.

The food at Pancho Villa is such demand that they've actually branched out to the Embarcadero, but my heart is with the original - the location on 16th between Mission and Valencia. The food is fresh, hot and tasty and the salsa bar is an added perk that gives it an edge over some of the other neighborhood favorites. A photo exhibition featuring blown-up black and white snaps of locals covers the main wall, which gives you something cool to eyeball while you wait in line.

Hi-Dive is a sweet little hole in the wall that looks like a transplant from some New England fishing community. The place is small and cozy -- about 12 tables and a bar. They have no-nonsense selection of draft beers and a menu that features a small but yummy selection of salads, burgers, sandwiches and crispy little shoestring fries served with this great spicy dip.
Their best kept secret: the view....the main wall is all windows that offer an amazing vista of the water. Take your out of town guests here and secure your reputation as the kid in the know.

This little hole in the wall taqueria on the corner of 24th and Mission is right up there with La Coroneta, Pancho Villa and Taqueria Cancun with my favorite Mission burritos. It's just good. They know how to stuff their tortillas here and the ingredients are always fresh and yummy, and with late-night hours, they're the perfect place to sate your post-bar munchies.

Palomar is great little boutique hotel at 4th and Mission, next to BART and just a block and a half from Yerba Buena and the Moscone Center. Rooms have cool touches like leopard print carpeting and the upstairs lounge provides a low-key but comfy place to chill out with a drink.
The staff is friendly, smart, accomodating and very knowlegable about the surrounding area. The only downside is the price: rooms start at around $200 a night unless you find an internet deal.

The Sir Francis Drake is a lovely little hotel right in heart of Union Square. One of the only SF hotels on the official register of US Historic Hotels, it's a full service hotel old-school opulence with the sweet feel of a little boutique outfit. The rooms are all comfortabel and well-appointed with comfy beds adn thoughtful decor that at least two steps above the average hotel room. A great place for both out of towners and for locals looking for a romantic getaway without leaving the city. I think normally prices average around $250/night, but I"ve always been able to find great internet deals on Expedia.com and the like

When it comes to San Francisco salons, Therapy is pretty great. I've had a massage and a facial here and was very happy with the level of service. The staff is nice and the practioners skilled, although I think the prices are a little on the pricey side for the services they offer. They also have a nice selection of products and gifts in the lobby.

As a jewelry designer with several years under my belt, I know my beads and Beyond Beads is right up there with General Bead when it comes to the best bead stores in SF. While General Bead is best for close-to-wholesale priced findings the largest selection of Czech glass anywhere, Beyond Beads has the best selection of semi-precious beads and pendants. The variety is great -- all manner of semi-precious stones, wood, bone, glass and more. I always go there for one thing to finish a project and leave about $80 later. The prices are great and the staff is knowlegable. Love it.

Therapy has the best of a little bit of everything -- cool shades, funky jewelry, hysterical cards, fun and quirky gifts and a nice selection of jackets, tops, skirts and shoes. I bought a light green tween cap there that gets tons of compliments and they're my first stop for the perfect card for all my smart-assed friends. Prices are pretty moderate and you're likely to find little gems here that will keep you coming back.

After touring several big-name local gyms, I finally settled on the Y on Spear Street. I was originally skeptical, thanks mostly on outmoded stereotypes based on the vocal stylings of the Village People. But then I finally took a tour. Wow. They have a top-notch facility with all the cardio, free weight and circuit machines a girl could ask for, plus an Olympic-sized lap pool, spinning, a wide variety of classes and several stretching areas.
The locker rooms are huge, clean and well appointed. You need your own lock, although they do feature a bank of penny lockers (and supply pennies at the front desk) for those times you forget, as well as free towels.
And you can feel good knowing your dues are going towards programs that build and help the local community instead of some giant corporation.
