Sevilla Restaurant

Had dinner there with some family and friends. It was a group of 6. The waiter scoffed at us when we asked for an extra plate (which we were willing to pay for) and had an attitude all evening. When time came for the bill, which was to be split with some cash and 2 credit cards, he walked away from the table in a huff, as though we were giving him too much work. I wish there was a minus rating. I cannot even remember how the food was- the service was that horrible! more

I just had dinner at Sevilla a few hours ago with a friend. We sat at the last table next to the kitchen's entrance. Having worked in the restaurant industry for quite a while, I observed their standards of hygine. I notice the waitstaff touching with bare hands the bread to be served and reusing left over pieces from other tables instead of discarding it. I also noticed that as the waitstaff plated the salad they arranged it with their bare hands. They wiped off their hands with a napkin hanging on their side that was also used for wiping plates. We skipped the salad and had the paella, which was really good. Service at our table was careless to say the best. We brought our observation to the manager, he was very concerned and rushed in to correct the problems. I recomend that you seat at that last table and see it for yourself. more

sevilla was sooo good and reasonably priced. Sangria was perfect. We had the Paella and some clams with green sauce. I had never heard or thought of trying the green sauce, but it was to die for. Definitely recommend it. Pros: Sangria, Paella, clams and green sauce Cons: No reservations more

After telling the waiter for the 3rd time I wasn't interested in drinking with dinner he began ignoring us. Finally he gave our table over to another waiter who was somewhat better, but still we were ignored. The food at Sevilla is great! But this waiter ruined the dining experience. Additionally, it wasn't as though he wanted to flip the table as I had to ask for the check even though the meal had been completed for 25 minutes. Overall, big disappointment! Simply one word, ""the best"". Well management ever since it opened it doors by a dedicated staff, and if you been coming here as long as I have you'll now some employees have been working their for over 40 years. At Sevilla you grow with the business as generation after generation continue the tradition of excellence. Never had a bad thing to say about this gem in the heart of NYC, oh by the way the food is amazing. Pros: Reciepe haven't changed in over 68 years and the taste either. Cons: no parking, but who wants to drive into such a beautiful neighborhood; go for a walk. more

Great!! real food, the food takes forever but when they bring it, it's hot and in the pan, they leave the same pan that they cooked it from with you until you're done. No microwaved restaurant food, pretty high priced, but worth it hight quality food. Wouldn't recommend for vegetarians that don't eat fish because menu consists of meat and seafood, one item with a lot of vegetable, basically a vegetable rice mix, but for the price I would've like some eggplant or fake meat. The experience at Sevilla started terribly when our reservation for nine people was downright ignored. My friend called three times (twice to change the number of people for the reservation) and the available table was confirmed during each call for, what in the end, was a nine person reservation. The host told one of us that we never had a reservation but then told another one of my friends that he could seat us in 10 minutes. We went to the bar for a drink but the waiters were angry that we were in their way and were very rude about it. They seated a few groups before us that had NO reservation at all. We came here for dinner. The wait was not too long. At first glance, the place looked very nice, and all the waiters had fancy outfits. When we sat down, we saw that the waiters outfits were old and stained, much like the rest of the place. Still, it had some charm. I can say one thing for the restaurant - they don't skimp. The portions are big, and more importantly, the sangria is not watered down, and if you get paella, there is more seafood than rice. We had the seafood paella and a plate of mussels. Both were huge, and the waiters served both onto our plates. The sangria was fairly tasty. The food, however, was not. Even though every spoonful was brimming with seafood, it had no taste whatsoever. Perhaps this place is a victim of its own authenticity because it reminded us of restaurants in Spain, which had incomparably better seafood. The seating is tight to say the least, if there are more than three couples waiting to be seated you will have to wait outside. It is very busy. Now, the great thing is that the food is excellent and the sangria is fantastic. There are old wood panel walls, a little artwork. The bar looks like a bar of old but well taken care of. There are a few booths but it seems as if they are for larger parties since this place stays relatively busy. So, if you are looking for romance it will be a reach. But, the food is fantastic. I have been going to Sevilla for about 30 years. I have yet to be disappointed. My favorites are the stuffed mushrooms, Mariscada in Green Sauce and top it off with a Spanish coffee. Yummy. Service is excellent. I will say this however, after 30 years I can't get the owners to buy us a drink!! What gives with these people. It doesn't stop me from going back but a drink for the new year after all this time would be nice. I'm blabbering but I will keep going back, even if I'm in a wheelchair or have a seeing eye dog. Sevilla is just about as authentic as it gets! Having lived in Sevilla, Spain, for a year, I know authentic Spanish food when I taste it. The sangria too is fantastic. This is a cute little restaurant my friend and I discovered while walking through the Village one night, and we made a point of coming back to check it out. We went on a Tuesday and had no problem getting a table. My impression of this place, along with its neighborhood, is that it is a moderately-disguised tourist trap. The first clue is that at least half the menu is seafood, but the entire wine list is red save for 2 or 3 bottles at most (WTF?), and by the glass they have only one ultra-cheap red and white Rioja each. I had the mixed seafood and lobster in green sauce, which was really quite good, but was it rightfully a $30 meal? I tasted my friend's pork in brown sauce and it was really bland. This is a really old school place with aging decor and and an equally aging fleet of servers clad in cute little red uniforms. But at these prices, you should be eating like a king, New York or not. Tia Pol in Chelsea was lightyears better, and the bill was the same, though admittedly we got a lot less food out of the deal and stopped for a slice of pizza later. Certainly one of the best Spanish places i've been. Being a Good Food lover, I can say that this place is a definite return type of restaurant. From the appetizers to the main course and through dessert, I couldn not have enjoyed it more. Very fresh and delicious seafood. For appetizers we had mussels (mejillones al ajillo), fried calamaries, crab meat stuffed mushrooms, spanish sausage... and one was better than the other one. Yes, you have to wait for a table but it is worth the wait. You get a ton of tasty food and the red wine sangria is to die for. I've been going to this place to eat for years and I always leave drunk, well fed, and happy. The restaurant is small and usually crowded but the food and drink is always excellent, which is why it's always crowded. Not bad on the wallet either. I have been going to Sevilla since I was in high school. The aroma of the garlic and herbs can be smelled from 7th Avenue South, and I start getting hungry. Every year we celebrate a friend's birthday there. Platters of food (meant for one but can feed an army!) Pitchers & pitchers of sangria (goes down smooth but packs a wallop.) I love the chicken in garlic sauce, seafood lovers go for the paella, but you can't fault the huge menu. Yes, it's a little dated in appearance. You may have to wait, but is that bad? We got there and we were told that the wait will be 20 mins. After waiting for almost an hour outside, we were finally seated near the entrance! The restaurant's decor is simple. The service is average. The bread and the salad were brought in first and we had to wait for a couple of minutes before our drinks were served. However, having said all of that, the restaurant's saving grace is the food. We thought the food was excellent especially the paella. Be prepared for a long wait to get a seat ! I have been eating out for 20 years and this is the only place ever where the waiter came over and told me that I was having a conversation too long with my neighboring table and that we both had to leave because they could not meet their quota per tables per night. I looove Spanish food. The rich yet light green sauces, the seafood, the paella, all harmonizing beautifully with a nice sangria is just the foundation for an AMAZING meal. Very friendly wait staff and host just completely express Spanish hospitality. The food here is just amazing: fresh seafood dishes full of flavor, a great cured ham from Spain, and great sangria. Did I mention that the serving sizes are massive? Each dish will feed two people easily. There usually is a wait, so you have to put your name on a list, but if you have a small party, the host will try his best to accommodate you. You go to Sevilla for the food. I've been several times, and have not been disappointed yet. Everything tastes wonderful and is served in ""you'll never get through it"" portions. You MUST try the paella! On the negative, the food is so good it attracts large crowds, meaning you will be waiting for a table unless you came early for dinner. Also there's no such thing as a quiet dinner. No matter how hard you try to make it romantic, it won't work. I can't stress enough you should do yourself a big favor and GO EARLY. The food was delicious but I would NOT recommend this restaurant for a group larger than 4. I was in a group of 10 and was told that it would only be a 20min wait but it ended up becoming 1hr 30min. It's expected in a large group but what made it worse was the fact that the host was very sneaky. He told me specifically which tables were being set up for me and then I see him giving it away to someone else 2x!! I put my name on a waiting list but there is absolutely NO use in it since the host doesn't follow it. Be prepare to face this horrible host and to wait a very long time for a table.
