Great scene, bad steak 1/24/2007

I recently went to STK and was somewhat disappointed. If you are looking for a "scene" this is the place to go. If you are looking for good steak, go elsewhere. We went on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was packed. Unfortunately I agree with some of the other reviewers when they say that the hostesses can be extremely rude and somewhat idiotic. They initially said that they did not have a reservation for us even though we called a few weeks before. When we told them the reservation was at 7:00 they asked us if we wanted a reservation at 7 and that they are "packed." Finally, after a lot of argument they found our reservation. The atmosphere is lovely, the lighting is perfect and if you want a place to people watch, this is it. However, don't expect to get much conversation in considering that the music is extremely loud. The appetizers were really good however when our steaks came, they were luke warm at best. Some were undercooked while others were overcooked, and the sauces that come with the steaks completely drown out the taste of the steaks and are not that good. Overall if you're looking for a place to "see and be seen" go to STK however if you are looking for a good steakhouse, do not go here. (Tip: do not check your coat...it's quite the process and takes way too long. AND they also tried to give our belongings to another group.) Pros: ambience, drinks, appetizers Cons: steaks, hostess more

What a disappointment 1/9/2007

Although the crowd is attractive and the decor is marvelous, the food and service left me wishing I had went to a chain restaurant (eghads!). I am a bit of a foodie and hail from Montana - so I know a good steak. Listen to me when I tell you that I have honestly had better steak at restaurants such as Outback. Although the meat was cooked decently, I am willing to bet that I would have found more flavor in a paper towel from the bathroom. The sides were cold, the sauces were mediocre and the service was HORRIFIC!! Nothing but attitude. The server made an error in our order, charged us for the error, and then threw us an obscene amount of attitude after we indicated there was a mistake. Don't spend your money here unless it is for cocktails with friends. Pros: Chic decor, decent wine list/prices Cons: Below Par Food, Disgusting Service more

Absolutely wonderful 12/23/2006

My thoughts on the STK restaurant are different from what this site potteries. The services are outstanding as is the food. This place was truely great. The food was delicious and some to dream about. Yes the prices were expensive but well worth it. STK is a place that everyone should visit. Celebrities are known to also make visits at this restaurant. more

A Great Bar, fun, fun 12/10/2006

I went to STK this past Friday night for a cocktail with friend and had a great time. I am from Miami and was in NYC for the weekend. Had a great time and wish we had more fun steakhouses like this one in Miami!!! We even ended up back there again on Saturday night for a late dinner....Cute guys and great food. We had the corn pudding, mac n cheese and shared a medium size skirt steak. Yummy, yummy Pros: a great bar Cons: Not in Miami more

Amazing Place 11/26/2006

I went with my husband on a Wednesday night and we had an amazing dinner and an amazing time! We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our waiter was so nice and very attentive. The food was out of this world!! The black cherry cosmo is the best cocktail on the list and the smore desert is very good. They played good music but it wasnt too loud so you can still talk. It has a very Vegas feel to it. I loved it and will definitely be back!!! Pros: Fun Fun Fun Cons: with a big group you would prob have to wait for a bit more

Great Ambiance! Great Hostesses! 11/21/2006

I went to STK for the first time last Thursday and had a great time. We were celebrating my best friend's birthday and the staff treated her like a Queen. I expected to be snubbed as we waited in line for about 10 minutes in the Meat Packing district's newest hangout. I found the host staff to be very accomodating. They gave us the best seats in the house and made sure we were taken care of. I felt bad because the coat check seemed to be on another floor, not the dining area and they kept reassuring us that our belongings would be okay. The hostesses disappeared with our coats but were very prompt in returning them to us at the end of the night. I am a vegetarian but the restaurant is vegetarian friendly and the food was great. If you are looking for a place where you will be treated like a celeb by the host staff, this is definitely the place to be! Pros: Great Host staff Cons: You may have to wait in line to get in:-/ more

Avoid or you will get hot air 11/18/2006

Where do I even begin. Last week, I called in to make an RSVP. The hostess immediately said that everything is full. Then I asked what about 6pm. Then she said that is fine. I mean why didn't she just tell me the available time slots to begin with or ask me for what time?!? Not that bright. I went to the Meatpacking District only because parking is good. Anyway, I showed up and there were many hostesses at the front. It took them a while to greet and acknowledge me. As the other reviews have said, they are not helpful nor friendly. They think they are all that, but not! Sadly to say that the bathroom attendant was more friendlier. I like him. He should either be hosting or be promoted as captain. And then have the hostesses attend the bathrooms. However, the waiting staff did do a good job and service was above average. As also stated in the other reviews, the food was nothing to write home about. It was overpriced and wasn't flavorable. As the night progressed, I noticed that there was still a lot of empty tables at 7:30pm. So why was I told that everything had been booked?!? Again, not that bright. Then I came home and had lots of hot air. Save your time and money. Goto Dylan Prime instead. I give STK - no, no, no. Pros: Bathroom attendant Cons: Food, price, bitchy hostesses more

Train the Hostess Staff - AMEN!! 11/17/2006

We made a reservation weeks in advance for 10pm. On the day of we called to see if they could accomodate us earlier. Not only could they not, but somehow they lost our reservation. Unbelievable. They refused to honor our reservation and said the earliest they could seat us was 10:45 (non-starter since a member of our party needs to be at work at 6am tomorrow as we explained). Besides being incompetent, they were rude ("Well, you say you lost your reservation", etc). There are lots of great restaurants in the city and I'm taking my business elsewhere (heading to Craftsteak tonight). I'd recommend you do the same. This place is not off to a good start. BTW, I've never written a review before, but this place was so rude I could not hep it. Pros: None Cons: Rude, incompetent hostesses more

Place to meet guys! 11/5/2006

Friday night -I walked into a hip and crowded bar area. I instantly felt the see and be seen vibe! Everyone seemed relaxed, my girlfriends and I had drinks at the bar then sat for dinner. I ordered the skate, which I am still dreaming about. My friends all ordered an assortment of steaks. I was told it was the best steak they had ever had! My friends had been here last month and the food was said to be even better. As I sat a glass of rose champagne was sent over to me by a cute guy eating with his friends. It's a very flirty atmosphere. That definatly provoked my girlfiends and I to stay and mingle with all the cute guys. Pros: fun flirty -A nice open space Cons: A little crowded in the front area more

the sparkling lyle st. cyre 11/5/2006

My date took me to this new steakhouse. We walked through the crowd and my date ordered me this drink. Not sure what it was I tried it anyway. It turned out to be the tastiest drink ever! I love champagne and its a great way to start off the night. Like any good restaurant in the city we waited 25 minutes for a table, which was fine. I don't even like steak but the filet mignon was very good, cooked just right. Also, even though I was on date I coldn't help but look at the hot men around me!! more

Great atmosphere, but.... 11/1/2006

This place is definitely the hot place to be. Crowded, trendy, great drinks. Food, however, was sub par. My medium-rare steak was overcooked, and I agree that portions are a bit small for the price. Sides are quite good though. I would recommend going for drinks and maybe appetizers -- you're not missing much if you don't sit down for a meal. Pros: Good creative drinks, atmosphere Cons: Food for the money more

Terrible experience 10/30/2006

Went last Saturday night with 8 people-- had a reservation at 9:30- even with the reservation they didn't seat us until almost 11pm!! We would have eaten anything it was so late, but the food was really lousy. The wait staff was fine but the hostesses were terrible and rude even though they were keeping us waiting. Get a grip. I don't care how much black laquer and modern design they use- the food was a zero- a fine restaurant this is not. Pros: nice bar scene Cons: overpriced, bad attitudes, lousy food more

Great scene, good food 10/30/2006

The place is beautiful and so are the people here. Food was good. Appetizer portions are small for the money. Like the choice of steaks and sizes. Overall a good restaurant with a great scene. more

Great spot 10/28/2006

Had a fabulous experience on a Saturday night. The food is delicious, the service was excellent, the crowd was beautiful. Like with many restaurants that just open in this city, it was difficult to get a reservation, but once we got one, the total experience was complete. more

buffons at the front desk 10/27/2006

I didn't even eat here - i walked in, checked my coat and then found out my party was across the street. It took 20 mins and me asking 4 different girls where the hell my coat was. If their COAT CHECK is this bumbling I fear for the rest of the staff. more

If you want steak this is it! 10/18/2006

At first the thought of eatiing in the Meat Packing district turned me off. It's too much of a scene. But, too my surprised I enjoyed STK. It is a scene but has an adult quality. Luckily I went there early with my date. After being seated I had an amazing Rice Crispy - Shrimp appetizer that actually snapped and popped. I love shrimp and would go back for this. Then I had a Skirt Steak that was excellent. To drink I had a dry martini... Yeah!!! It had olives with stuffed with goat cheese. Although it took awhile to get seated my date and I were bought a round of drinks and asked to come back. Every one serving us seemed nice and attentive. The lovely hostess took our names and promised us that we would get in if we wanted to come back and have another round on them. We'll see. I'll certainly try. Pros: The music and abience, the service Cons: a little wait but we were taken care of more

Train the Hostess Staff! 10/17/2006

With all the inherent competition in the Meatpacking District, STK should be going out of its way to attract and keep its customers. Typically, it falls into the trap of hiring the attractive hostess with no hospitality skills whatsoever. Example: 25 minutes after being seated for dinner and having just been brought our first round of drinks, the hostess asks us to either order or vacate the table for another party. This is one of the rudest experiences I have ever had at any restaurant in NY or anywhere else. While the manager did apologize afterward, this left a sour taste in our mouths. The food, admittedly, was good and our waiter friendly but this kind of faux pas is unacceptable. We almost took our $1200+ tab elsewhere. Pros: Good food and ambience Cons: Poorly trained host staff more

amazing ambience for a steakhouse 10/7/2006

i really like the ambience in this restaurant. very open...it doesn't feel stuffy like other steakhouses do. the food is great. my husband and i shared the porterhouse and it melts in your mouth. don't forget to try the sweet cornpudding!!! it is to die for. we stayed around after dinner and it started to get packed. i even saw a few celebs. we had a great time. i can't wait to come again. Pros: make this your next meatpacking fave more

STK A female friendly steakhouse 10/3/2006

STK is a refreshing change from the traditional steakhouse atmosphere. The Nuevo Steakhouse provides a delicate intimate ambience which is complemented by the cuisine. Everything about the restaurant is cohesive with its sensuous theme. I ordered the roasted lamb which was spiced and cooked to perfection. The service that I received was very efficient and professional. I think that STK is off to a great start. Pros: Ambience, service, food Cons: Expensive but worth it! more

A Riveting Steakhouse! 10/3/2006

This Steakhouse will keep you coming...the ambiance and decor are marvelous! The front bar and lounge area is where you want to start! Beautifully designed menu with varying selections of appetizers and entrees! Appreciated the options in steak portions. The presentation and most importantly the taste of STK's food is top notch. Great choices in sides - you must try the truffle french fries!! -- always a great pairing with steak. Wonderfully managed and great service! So worth the experience!! more

  • STK artfully blends the modern steakhouse and a chic lounge into one, offering a dynamic, fine dining experience, with the superior quality of a traditional steakhouse. NYC’s premier year-round rooftop featuring skyline and highline views.

Editorial
  • The Scene
Picture windows along the facade show off the pretty crowd like mannequins at neighboring boutiques. Stark black-and-white accents, from faux elephant tusks flanking the bar to the shiny ebony leather lining the lounge, infuse the space with contrast. A live DJ clinches the clubby mood.

    The Food
Meat portions, divided into small, medium and large cuts, are all generous; the humbly named "Little T," for example, offers a quality 10-ounce T-bone. A selection of garden salads--like a mache, crab, melon and avocado mix--will appease those concerned with fitting into designer duds, while lightly curried scallops garnished with peas are a seafood standout. Some mains, like the bland short ribs, don't fare as well, though any dish can be saved by the parmesan-truffle fries--a stack of lightly crisped potato rectangles packing salty-earthy power in each bite. A fruit salad punched up with black pepper provides a refreshing but assertive ending.
